At least this annoying store glitch gives me the time to check outwitters before I get stolen in SW. I will then forget outwitters with no regrets as soon as SW comes online for me.
Cannot wait to play! Cmon store!! Between this Ascension, AC recollection and Chaos rings 2 I'm not sure I really need anything else
I have both (with all IAP) and can say for sure that while outiwtters is fun, this is on awhole 'nother level. Enjoying this alot more than I thought I would. I almost fell guilty for not being a card game fan at all and being able to play this, while alot of you guys can't. Maybe the game knew I needed to get some practice in before you all came along
The AI seems to roll a lot of 6s and quite a few 5s for Fury. Maybe they did it to bolster the lack of truly good decision making. Not a real issue though, it's all good as long as real players roll real random dice.
I noticed this also - I've lost a couple of games to the AI when they seem like they're making all of their rolls in the end game when it really counts. Gonna give them the benefit of the doubt that it's just a Probability Cognitive Bias and not something shady going on Really great implementation of this game - looks great on the iPad 3 Retina screen. The $8 IAP is a great deal for such a wealth of content. I just hope they get these download issues corrected for all the folks having issues downloading it.
Just beat you at Outwitters You seemed to be playing well, and then all of a sudden there was a turn I didnt understand and you were lost.
If you guys love this game so much, you should do for it what I did for Hero Academy and set up a League with an ELO based rating system. You cant get very far without someone that is database savvy. What I did for the Hero Academy League was that I set it up without the database guy in place. For a few weeks we did manual rating adjustments, and we capped the membership at 50. Then as our membership grew, we found our database guy and were good to go.
It's likely that out of the three major forums (TA, BGG and PHG) somewhere someone with initiative will do the necessary, but even without a league I'm perfectly fine enjoying meaningless wins and losses against known friends.
I wish I could give you guys my copy of this game because I already deleted it. Even after losing to AI, it still didn't inspire me to try to win. I just find this so derivative of other better games like MTG (but without the artwork) Visual aspects of cards is important to me, not just the function, so after the buffet of incredible magic art that I have been looking at for the last week, this has been a real letdown. It also rips off 'the lord of the rings: the confrontation' in board layout, as well as the dice rolling mechanic in battlelore, which I couldn't stand. This is another important point: the deck they give you, the elves, is incredibly boring and generic. is this really how they hope to hook new players and make you invest further? there isn't even any variety in the deck. Mostly weak ones and twos. Two different soldiers, a mid level female, one very expensive monster? That's it? Where's the variety in this race, this deck? After the variety that is an MTG deck, this fell really flat for me. I got really bored seeing the same things every round. Oh yay, another three one cost, one dice soldiers to summon. They only give you the option for the most boring generic deck of the whole set. They should really at least give you access to a couple more decks to try out.
I do not mind playing with people that kills me or I kille them. The problem with leagues is that I would not learn from playing always with people of my level and in any game I am never constant in playing skill due to the weird times I cn play or my kids interfering!
Yea moving between outwitters and this got me a little confused. Maybe it wasn't with you, but at least twice I accidently skipped my own go. Just sticking to summoner wars for now
It really isn't all that similar to MTG, for one thing it is much more simplistic and also reliant on dice. For another it is a turn based tactics game more than it is a card game, for the physical game the cards were essentially a way of making a miniatures game that doesn't break the bank. I had little issue with the default faction, it shows you how the game works and honestly the Pheonix Elves are simply easier to play than many of the other factions which is a good thing for new players. Ultimately it is a game that has some decent gameplay, although perhaps does not translate perfectly into IOS, the interface, menus, and graphics do not help, at least on the IPhone. It's not a game that will replace Hero Academy, and likely not Outwitters or RAD either for IOS tactical games, but in fairness those games were designed specifically for IOS while SW is simply a port.
I just had a super fun match against the AI. I was playing the elves and the AI had the Orc, and I had tweaked my deck with two mercenary commons. The AI did have a few consecutive Furys, but I don't really believe there would be anything shady going on there... Actually, from a development standpoint, it requires a bit more effort to have non-random rolls than random, so unless they did it on purpose - which I wouldn't really see why - I'd just discount it as a cognitive bias indeed Also, the AI doesn't quite seem to be the smartest of the bunch... I had only my summoner in play, he had a few units, and he focused on attacking... walls? Do you get like a special bonus for killing walls that I'm not aware of? The next turn I reached the AI's summoner, and used my summoner's Special ability. Game over I bought the Bundle, but as far as I'm seeing it, I'm actually going to be playing the elves for a while more before trying out new races. I'm hoping that the remaining races' AIs show up in the coming weeks. I am enjoying this much more than I expected to - really great fun, the video didn't do it justice. As for the artwork, I don't really dislike it at all - it's functional. If I am to complain about artwork, I would complain about the Ascension cards illustrations - but that's really both another discussion, and a matter of preference Cheers!
I cannot judge SW because I cannot download it, but outwitters is nt exactly groundbreaking.it is a very traditional game very well implemented. I have been playing a bit and it does not really gives me any magic like games such as ascension, mtg, chess or even the war of roses.
The Phoenix Elves are not the most generic deck in there, I don't think there are any real generic decks at all. Every deck plays differently. As for more decks for free...I disagree, and I'm going to leave it at that. I do not want to start a flame war here. The abilities of the Phoenix Elves include things like reducing the randomness of damage rolls, movement and ranged powers. As I understand, it's a good, easy faction to learn and ease players into the game if they've never played before, as well as a low life Summoner to teach new players to protect their Summoner. What follows is the Dev's explaination: Source: Here. For note, the PE deck follows: The Phoenix Elf deck is: 1 Summoner: Price Elien and Phoenix Elf Events 1 Maelena 1 Kaeseeall 1 Fire Drake 6 Warriors 6 Archers 6 Guardians The Abilities follow: Commons Precise from Guardian - Deals damage = to the number of dice that would normally be rolled. Blaze Step from Warrior - which allows the warrior to fall back to a friendly wall Far Shot from Archer Ranged attack at 4 spaces instead of 2 Champions Maelena - +1 damage when attacking, whether or not she does any damage with her 2 normal attack Kaeseeall - Take over an adjacent Common or Champion until the end of turn Fire Drake - Instead of Attacking: choose a card in a straight line, up to 3 spaces away, The Chosen card, all cards in between and the Fire Drake all take one wound Summoner Prince Elien - Instead of attacking, choose a card within 2 clear, straight line spaces of Prince Elien. That card receives 2 wounds. It's the deck that comes with the original Summoner Wars "Phoenix Elves vs. Tundra Orcs" set from 2009, as I understand it.
Athros: Quick, curiosity question: weren't the other Commons and Champions available as part of the original deck? Are they "reinforcements"? Also, are you able to change the starting setups for each race? If not, are they all the same in terms of positions? Cheers!
Hero Academy, Outwitters and possibly RAD don't have the faction or unit variety of Summoner Wars. Not to mention the deck building aspect which is enhanced hugely by the Mercenaries. In addition everyone taking a hit at SW's simplicity seem to be forgetting the very complex magic economy at play, you only get to go through your deck once and you have to consume some cards to gain magic. It's not like simply tapping lands or getting free action points.
