@ Jerutix - Agreed on all points. Having played and bailed on sooo many others, including those you mentioned, I cannot seem to shake SS. The control, the reward scaling, the content updates, the random bonuses... it just leaves all others in the dust. @ Adams Immersive & ChiroVette - Crap! I guess I assumed getting Diamond would count as Gold (albeit Gold "+")... Well that makes things interesting. @ ChiroVette - Sorry about the crashes. I keep considering myself lucky that the game runs so well (considering) on my iPhone 4 w/iOS7, and it would be pretty frustrating (OK, very frustrating) to lose the kind of progress you're describing. DBC
Yeah, I have the feeling this is a bug or glitch. I can't, for the life of me, imagine a scenario where Kiloo would intentionally screw you for getting a higher score, or, even worse, force gamers to start trying to calculate the precise scores they will need to get Gold but not Platinum. Yeah, I can get five or ten million in my sleep, and so easily (and scores that low I can do without board or keys) that knowing a run over that amount is doomed to a crash to iOS just makes the game unplayable for me. That and the lag is just over the top.
Confirmed: at present, to get Gold for the awards, it works well to die somewhere around 750k points. (Or "any time after you see that first digit become a 7" is a good rule of thumb.) (I actually died a bit above 1 million by accident and JUST BARELY made it to the top of the gold without going diamond, but 750k is a more comfortable target, which put me around the the center of the Gold list. So going a little higher or lower than 750 should be fine too.) Once you've done that and earned your Gold, make sure to die early from then on (if you continue playing) so you don't accidentally surpass yourself! I suppose it's probably a bug: I can see them making the tough challenge of getting exactly Gold, but you have to do it SO many times, over such a long time, and you can't EVER go over. So it forces you to quit every run early for weeks or months on end--probably not the intention. But no big deal for now--I can make do for a few weeks!
Thanks for the feedback, glad you like it! We are aware, that you still have to get Gold Medals to achieve the Gold Surfer Awards, but it is not a bug - it's intended. We might implement an Award for Diamond Rank in the future, and that is why we have kept the Gold Surfer Award this way.
So you guys are looking for punish people for getting scores that are "too high" but who still want to get the award? You think this is a good strategy for an infinite runner where score is everything, to LOCK gamers into intentionally low-balling themselves for the entirety of every single week they need to "only get Gold?" Truth be told, while it is insanely stupid, have at it. With all the lag and the program being so unstable that it crashes to iOS so many times at scores over a few million, I have pretty much given up on this game. I force myself to do one run a week just to get the award (lol though I am not really sure why at this point. Habit, I suppose). I don't even bother with my free keys videos anymore and have even given up on the weekly hunts. So in a sense, this stupid implementation of Diamond awards depriving you of the gold is a good thing since I can get my runs over with much quicker. <eyeroll>
Thanks for the info! For what it's worth, some feedback to pass along, in case this hasn't been fully thought through. Re a future diamond award: - You could still have a Diamond Award in future, even if Diamonds do count toward the Gold Award too. That's how your "Earn any medal" award already works: if you earn silver or below, only the one award progress bar moves. If you earn gold, both progress bars move. It's impossible to earn Gold award progress without also earning "any award" progress. So, Diamond could work the same way. - In fact, if you do add a Diamond Award, the current system makes that award easier to progress in than Gold. That's probably nor your intent. (Bearing this out, I can see in my Top Runs how lots of people are in the Diamond tier, while the Gold tier has shrunk down to just me and 2 others.) And the 3 levels of Gold Medal awards levels take months to achieve--hundreds of runs--which means you're asking people to quit EVERY game early for months at a time. (Technically, you could miss a week sometimes and score high; but every accidental high score costs you a week of progress--which is quite a punishment after days of carefully-low scores, and in practice, people will learn to avoid that outcome.) Maybe that was an intentional challenge, but it has some problems in practice: - It makes people play shorter games, and thus play less. I certainly find my evening Subway Surfers sessions to be much shorter now. On a basic level, playing the game is discouraged. (I still play daily, going for silver boxes and collectibles... but the worst case would be someone who drops their play to one run a week--just enough for the Gold award progress--and doesn't intend to return to "full play" until after that award is done. But once that's done--a few months later--will they really return to their old daily habits? Some might not.) - Because of the need to keep ALL runs short (and encouraging some players to drop their usage to once-weekly) consumable use--a big part of your income--is also discouraged: keys, boards, score boosters, and head starts ALL make it harder to perform other tasks/challenges while keeping your score low. So we use (and buy) less of them now. (You also learn to avoid 2x Stars for the same reason--but at least those are free.) - Short runs fight with other challenges (like getting 3 keys in a run). You can either have the older challenge take a week's progress from the Medal challenge, or you can have the Medal challenge prevent you from completing the older challenge for months on end. Neither choice is fun. (The latter can be worked around with a Skip, but a Skip is always less fun that meeting a challenge.) In other cases ("score x points...") it's still possible to complete the older challenge using only short runs, but it interferes in a non-fun way. - And of course the sheer duration of the problem: it's not the same as, say, "earn 512 coins," where you're going for a low score once, and then can play a high score game after that. It's going for ONLY low scored for months on end--or hundreds of runs. Penalizing a high score IS a valid challenge and can be fun--but do you want it penalized for so long? Anyway, the India update is probably done, so it sounds like we have another month of early-quits, but it might be worth thinking over some more for April.
Thanks for the extensive feedback, ChiroVette and Adams Immersive! The Diamond Top Run medal was implemented to simplify the Top Run "ranks" - now there are only 5 ranks as opposed to 10 ranks before. We believe that this makes the Top Run challenge better for the "average" surfer. But as you point out there is definitely an issue with the Gold Surfer Awards if you are an expert Surfer. We will take your feedback into consideration for when/if we introduce a Diamond Top Run Award.
Mumbai 2015 Update Hey all, Jake and his friends are now surfing the colorful streets of Mumbai! The visit to India brings about a reunion with Jay, the athletic champion, and the roaring Bengal board. The update also introduces Mystery Maestro Awards. To get these Awards youll have to acquire lots of thrilling Mystery Boxes. In Mumbai you will also be able to boost the Skull Fire and Lumberjack with new Board Upgrades. Finally, you will earn the Weekly Hunt prizes by picking up beautiful lotus flowers on the tracks. Looking forward to see you on the tracks of Mumbai. Feel free to leave your feedback and questions right here.
I think there's a bug with Coco now (at least on my iPad Air with iOS 7): If you play as Coco now, you don't get credit for coins you pick up, nor boxes you find, nor boxes earned from missions. (You don't get to open the boxes.) Coco also messes up any screens that contain a character (like the "welcome" message for the update, the character-selection screen, and the game-over screen--which must be why coins and boxes are not processed). You still get credit for having finished a mission, and you can still collect letters and lotus flowers. If you then change to a different character (which is tricky since the character-menu doesn't work right once you have Coco), you will get to claim all the missing boxes--but the coins earned as Coco are lost forever. Also, although the newly-chosen character shows correctly on the title screen, when you actually play, they appear as Coco again (until you relaunch). Not sure if any other characters are affected.
There has been some problems regarding Coco in the last update, and we are aware of the issue. We should soon have an update out with a solution.
This is the ONLY game I turn to when I want to relax. Just so mind soothing for me. My highest score is only around 7 million but I just play it for fun now trying accumulate enough coins to buy everything. As for improvements I would like to see an option of prizes for the hunts. I only really want gold or surfboards but sometimes I get those x5 starters but I would prefer a choice. That's all. Other than that WARNING: If it ain't broke DONT fix it. This game is perfect and doesn't need anything added to destroy it so please be very careful.
Agreed on all points, but especially ^this^ one. Not a huge deal, but I've got tons of headstarts, boosters, and boards (none of which I really use unless for a specific mission), and it would be great to see some more limited stuff, keys, coins, etc... DBC
Apologies for the intentional double post, but I wanted Jeppe to see this... Question: Why does my "Top Run" scoreboard show a minimum for the Diamond award but no actual scores for the first 4-5 days? How can there be a seemingly random minimum if there aren't any actual scores on my board? DBC
I understand, why it can seem a bit odd that you sometimes don't see any actual scores in the Diamond rank, even though you see a minimum score. The minimum score is based on everybody playing in your country, but you only see the scores of a limited amount of people. If none of these people are in the Diamond rank, your Diamond rank list will be empty.
Guys, sorry to be the chronic complainer, but this is really starting to piss me off! I did a run very early in the week and purposely cut it short so I wouldn't be in the Platinum. I mean, we're talking about a lowly 20 minute run, which I crashed on purpose. I couldn't believe it that I was in Platinum. So I figured, no problem. With a purposely low score like 2+ million, someone will knock me back down to gold. I was wrong. I am still in Platinum. So, yeah, great update! <eyeroll> There's another week I won't get progress toward the Gold medal award. Listen, Jeppe, PLEASE tell this to your dev team. They are really discouraging people from playing. Not only do I have to purposely sandbag (and it doesn't always work, for Christsakes) but now there is NO REASON whatsoever to play the game anymore other than the ONE RUN to hopefully get a Gold medal and not a platinum. Seriously, is that what you guys want? People to not only intentionally sandbag and low ball their scores BUT not to play other than the one run they need for fear of scoring too high? Aren't you freemium devs supposed to...oh, I don't know, encourage people to play?
Hi ChiroVette,Thanks again for your feedback! I understand your frustration, and it is of course our intention to encourage people to play the game. In fact, this was the main reason for introducing the Spray Can Awards in the first place. That being said, I don't hope the Gold Surfer Award is your only motivation for playing Subway Surfers. There are a ton of other achievements and awards to reach for As said, however, the Gold Surfer Award has been stucked in a limbo since the introduction of the Diamond Top Run medal, and when/if we decide to change it I'll make sure to post about it in this forum right away!
Paris 2015 Update Hi all, Jake and the Surfer crew have travel to France to grind trains in the stunning Subway of Paris. The visit to Paris presents a new playful Jester Outfit for Coco, the lovable mime. Theres also new Board Upgrades for the Lumberjack and Scoot boards. Want a little extra motivation for competing with your Friends in the weekly Top Run race? Then go for the new Top Runner Awards that are awarded when you beat a certain number of friends. Have fun surfing the tracks of Paris, and let me know if you have any questions or feedback.
Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, with all the lag, crashes, and stuttering in the game when I get over a few million, doing the awards really is the only reason I play the game now. I used to play trying to beat my high score of 78+ Million, but that has become impossible. Once you get over 5 or 10 million, the game starts to lag like crazy, and over 20 million a crash back to iOS is imminent, losing me all the boards and keys used as well as coins collected, all for nothing. Still, I tried to accept that with a modicum of good cheer after you brought in the Awards. At least that gave someone of my skill in this game "something to do." Now, the only awards I have left are Gold Surfer and Master Of Keys. Look, if the game was not destroyed for long runs, I would ignore the awards and just do may crazy long runs over days and weeks, pausing the game constantly and playing a little while a day. But that option is gone. So the only reason I am playing right now is to finish up the awards. Hell, I have even stopped logging in every day to get my free keys for watching the video and have started blowing off the Weekly Hunts, which up until recently participated in that stuff religiously. Hey, its your game. You guys are the devs. All I can tell you is that you have taken the ability to do LONG runs away from us by not addressing the lags and the app crashes when it has been running a while. Now, in order to get the award I want, I HAVE TO sandbag, which means I can ONLY play once a week and a very short run at that or I risk accidentally getting Platinum. I hate to say it, but this game is all but dead for me now, and that's a shame, because I had a lot of fun with it. Here's the big problem I see in a nut shell: The game is TOO EASY to play well to limit gamers to low scores (either because of crashes and lag or because one medal group takes away the award for the week). If this game had the difficulty, say of Spider-Man Unlimited (which is arguably too difficult lol!) then short runs would be fine, because that game is so challenging that you never have to worry about playing a run for HOURS and it crashing. Although the new update Gameloft just released has problems, but that's another conversation. Look, Jeppe, log onto Facebook and go check out some of the fan Subway Surfers groups. EVERYONE is complaining about the ridiculous lag and crashes! You guys need to get your sh*t together before everyone moves on to other games.
Just in case it's not already known: there seems to be a new bug with the Jump Board (or whatever it's called): after the board runs out, your character is still shown having Jump Boots (including the sound), but they don't work: you jump normally. This lasts until you pick up real Boots; when they run out, all is normal again.
