Thanks for expanding the game ever further! How does Coin Cautious work? Can you earn the 50k no-coins points in the MIDDLE of the run, after already picking up some coins at the start? Or does it have to be the FIRST 50k points you earn during the run? Or even worse, do you have to earn 50k and then die without ever getting a coin that entire run (not even after hitting the required score)? And if so, would earning a moneybag from a crate invalidate your attempt?
First, the new update is sa-weet as always... "Coin Cautious?" Oh boy, I'd be interested in what people are coming up with for strategies. The first 50,000 seems relatively doable, but beyond that? Yeow. DBC
I go all three on day one, but it was very difficult. First, 50,000 points without coins wasn't so bad, and I got that in like three tries. But 80K and 120K were CRAZY hard!!!! Here are some of the things I did. 1. I know you don't like them, but you are going to have to use boards!! I used the bouncer board because I could jump over stuff without having sneakers. BUT beware that with the bouncy or with sneakers, you will pick up any coins you jump over! Something to be aware of. 2. Get good at avoiding small trails of coins, like when you have to jump over or roll under a red and white barrier. This won't work with a long line, because without sneakers you can't jump high enough, and with sneakers, you will collect anything you jump over! 3. If you see a segment coming where you can't avoid collections (like three lanes all filled with coins!!!) then wait until the last possible minute and crash with your board. This will clear out much of what's ahead of you. 4. If you are in a cool-down period (can't activate a board yet) when the scenario in #3 comes about, and there's nothing else to do AND you are pretty far into the run (like say you have 50K with 0 coins and don't want to lose your chance) then crash anyway and use a key! This will also clear out anything ahead of you AND you can activate a board immediately after using a "Save Me," thus allowing you to jump over any trains (hopefully without any coins on them) or simply crash with a board again immediately after using the key, which will clear out stuff and still leave you running. 5. Even with sneakers or bouncy board, I have found that sometimes if you are skilled (and I am) I can jump "between coins" usually when you come to the end of one line without coins (with coins in front of you so you have to change lanes) and coins in the lane next to you that are about to end. You'll see what I mean, and it is tricky, BUT you can time it so you jump even with sneakers and bouncy at the end of one clear lane into a segment that is about to be clear. Obviously if you don't have sneakers or a bouncer board activated, this jumping out of one lane (even jumping over some coins you can safely do without collecting them) and then immediately jerking your character left or right into the lane now clear, will be a lot easier, but in this game for this challenge you have to play the hand you're dealt! Look, when I did the 80K, it cost me a crapload of boards and ONE key. When I did the 120K, it actually cost me 7 keys (three Save Me Restarts) and a ton of boards! So this was worth it for me as it costs me 8 keys in total and I got back 15 for the three awards! Since you normally don't use either boards of keys, then this would be a good opportunity to waste crapload of them. you don't care a lick about keys, so even if it costs you 127 keys for 7 restarts or 255 keys for 8, who cares? Two possible strategies I didn't try are things that increase your multiplier so you can get higher scores without coins: 1. Use Score Booster for an extra 5X multiplier, which should make it easier. The caveat there is that this awared requires an INSANE amount of restarts, so you can burn through your collection of score boosters really fast and not even be guaranteed to get it. For the record, I refused to do this and did it without the boosters, because they cost 3,000 coins each. So I gutted it out without them. 2. Wait until Thursday and use the specially selected character for an extra 5%. I did this on Friday, so obviously that wasn't going to work for me, If you do the above two things I didn't do, you have the benefit of getting 40X multiplier for racking up points faster, hopefully without coins.
I tried doing this after, say collecting a couple of coins I couldn't avoid in the beginning of the run. I won't swear to it, but it definitely seemed like once you get one coin in a run at any point, that it inactivates the award for that run. For your second question, you can die and crash all you want, just so long as you have the boards and keys to keep going!
It must be the first points you earn during the run. Once you've picked up a coin the score will no longer count towards the Coin Cautious Awards. If you are really hardcore, you could potentially go for Bronze, Silver and Gold in the SAME run. However, the count is reset after each Award, so you'll have to do a score of 250K (50K + 80K + 120K) without picking up coins. The Awards are completed instantly (when you reach each level), so you don't have to avoid Moneybags from Mystery Boxes and the like. Also, you can crash and use as many Keys as you like without affecting the Coin Cautious Awards score. Hope you enjoy this new and challenging Awards
Thanks, Jeppe! I've found the game fairly easy (but fun) lately--practice makes perfect!--but Coin Cautious adds some major challenge. (I'd kind of wish for some medium-sized challenge! I think I'll TRY for the first Coin Cautious but leave the others alone.) By the way: the Teleporter board has a "zap sideways ability" (and I assume the upgraded Hero board acts the same) but it doesn't actually seem to do anything--it's just a visual effect, right? I had guessed from the description that (like the jumper board) it was a real upgrade: one that let you jump LEFT from the LEFT lane and come back on the right lane. Or jump RIGHT from the RIGHT lane and come back on the left. "Wrap around" like the side-doors in Pac-Man. This would be neat in two ways: it would be a way to skip past the middle lane entirely (maybe to avoid unwanted pickups or get to a collectible more quickly); and it would make accidental death from "hitting the side wall" impossible (though you might still teleport to a different accidental death). That would make the "zap" effect have real meaning. Just a thought!
I'm very glad Adam brought it up because I thought the same thing back when you had a trial run for it. Although it's a really cool looking board, the zapping doesn't really add much to it. It would be really awesome if it actually teleported you through obstacles!
Hi Adams & Eoghann, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the "Zap Sideways" power! And sorry for the late reply. It would indeed be a very cool feature to Zap out of the Subway and appear on the other side We opted for a Zap that stayed in the Subway at all times in order not to bend the rules too much. Most of the special powers are variations of something you can already do - jumping, staying low and so on - but on a larger scale. And yes, the Zap power is mostly a visual effect. Or that's at least the big draw to it But actually it also gives you the ability to get a little closer to obstacles before you Zap to avoid them.
I turned off this game a while back, after seeing on the FB page that people were posting up ridonkulous scores from using hacks/cheats ... always ruins a game. The leaderboards are full of fakes. It's not a bad game, but too one dimensional, I played it for a couple of months, but it was a 5 minute blast here and there
Announcing Smash Champs Hi guys, I have some exciting news for you today! Although this time its not about Subway Surfers but about Smash Champs, our upcoming iOS game that I have been alluding to for quite some time now Join us on this thread to see the spectacular teaser trailer for Smash Champs and get frequent updates about the game. Hope to see you there!
The Cairo update is awesome! I remember people on the facebook page were really requesting that be the next stop. I immediately thought that the feature character could be a cleopatra-type girl. And yay! That's exactly what you guys did! She looks really close to what I imagined in my head too! She's a cutie! Love Egyptian motifs, please thank your wonderful artists once again. ^_^
Cairo Update Hi guys, As some of you have already noticed: The Surfers have traveled to new a new destination. Now Jake and his friends are surfing the fantastic Subway of Cairo. In Cairo we will introduce extra powerful Headstarts. When using a Headstart you will now be able to boost it up to two times. Each boost will make you skip ahead longer and increase your running speed. If you use a Headstart and boost it twice you will begin your run on the games maximum speed. Jasmine, the adventurous are joining the crew in Cairo together with new Board Upgrades for the Great White and Superhero board. The Superhero board now has two Upgrades which you can combine. This makes you able to both Zap Sideways and Super Jump with the board! Jump into the Cairo Subway and tell me if you like it. Like CecilMcW00t and Eoghann, I really think the artists did a great job of capturing the mythical splendor of Egypt.
Coin Cautious got easier with certain other recent changes Has the Top Run server been down for a few days? I haven't been able to get it to connect lately. (Might lose my Top Run award progress!) Looks like Halloween on the Mississippi may be back...
I was kinda expecting it last week. Seems it already hit other devices. Guess there's a backlog in Apple's review process? Oh and side note: brilliant move with the suped up head start feature. Now I can jump into the nitty gritty at full speed and not have to yawn my way through the slow lane. Simply awesome.
There has been some issues with the servers. We are looking for a fix asap, so hopefully it will not impact your Awards progress! And yes, one of the spin-off benefits of the new Headstarts was to make the Coin Cautious Awards a little easier to achieve
The review process at Apple has backlogged, but we are doing all we can to get the iOS update out there asap. Glad you like the new and improved Headstarts
