    newbie question

    Hi,
hope I'm on the right boards. I've played subway surfers on my phone for quite a while (S3). My kids have Samsung tablets now and love the game...they played for a while and it worked fine. Then they decided they wanted to connect to their facebook account so they can compete with their friends. Once I clicked connect to facebook, it connected but now whenever they try to play the game it locks up usually before the run even starts. Just wondered if anybody else has had this problem and is there a fix?

I have to agree. The hoverboard animations are insanely good. They really add a whole new dimension to the game and make the gameplay feel more varied.

    Miami 2014 Update

Hi guys, hope you are all enjoying 2014!

We are ready with our next update, and this time the Subway Surfers crew is heading back to one of their favourite cities: sunny Miami.

We received a lot of positive feedback last time the World Tour visited Miami. And for a while now we’ve played with the idea of revisiting previous cities. That’s why I hope you’ll all enjoy this chance to surf Miami’s palm-covered beaches again.

The Miami-revisit also means that Nick, the suntanned beach boy, is back - this time he has brought a new snappy outfit. It also seems like it wasn’t enough for Tasha with her latest wardrobe outdate, so for this update we’ve added an additional and slightly retro outfit for her!

And as usual don’t forget to join the Weekly Hunt by searching for pink flamingos on the tracks.

    Awesome, looks GREAT!

Unfortunately, I can't download it yet. I am in the middle of a run for my high score. I want to top 99 million. I started a couple of days ago, lol, and play here and there whenever I can (a million or two here, a million or two there).

Anyway, I can't download the update until I finish this run or I lose my score. Right now I am up to 33 million (showing) plus about 280 thousand coins. (This is about 50 million if I were to stop right now and the coins were counted). Right now my high is 78.8 million. lol In fact, here is a3 or 4 minute excerpt from the finale of that 78+ Million high score. I meant to post this weeks ago, but never got around to it. ;)

A good way to know when the next update is coming is from the hunt. Usually it's on the week the last hunt expires or it can sometimes extend until the following week.

How does that work? You pause it and come back to continue running? You say you've been at it for the last couple of days.

And why are your characters all jittery? The guard is all wobbly at the end. Something doesn't look right.

Yeah you have to pause the game. No way could I play for ten hours straight. There is a little pause button on the top left of the screen where you can pause your game and come back to exactly where you were when you want to continue your run.

Caution: If you hit the home button while in the pause screen, you will end your run and lose all the coins and score you collected. Unfortunately, the game doesn't give you a warning and ask if you're sure you want to end your run.

As for the jittery characters, that happens sometimes when you play too long. I think that I had come to the end of a very long session toward the end of that run and the game started glitching out on me. I think that the key with Subway Surfers is to pause the game after an hour or two of play in order for it to not glitch as much. Notice also that my in-game music was gone? At some point, it just stopped.

Weird, but this game does glitch out when you play too long. I think, as I said, you can avoid this by letting the game cool down in pause, even backing out of the app (without closing it) on your device.

That is some serious dedication. Nice! I assume you don't use keys judging by the large quantity you have?

Yeah I do use them, but very sparingly and only when going for a high score. The good thing about the keys, though, is you can't spam them. Because your first "Save Me" costs one key, your second costs two, your third use costs 4, then 8, then 16, then 32, then 64, etc.!

So you can easily see that by the time you have used 7 "Save Me's" the cost a whopping 128 keys for your 8th usage!

So at some point you have to make a decision as to how many you want to fork up. In that run I did I think 7 Save Me's, and when the game asked me for 128 keys, I was like no way! lol I had already used 127 (1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 = 127 keys for 7 save me's)

As you can see, it gets VERY expensive when you use them more than a couple of times in a run.

    Power Jumper problem

When I get a Power Jumper, I pick up 28 coins (with the coin doubler) in any lane. When I get a Power Jumper while holding a Magnet, I pick up 72 coins. If the Magnet picks up all coins in all three lanes, that should give me 84 coins. Where did the other 12 coins go?

That is indeed some serious dedication, ChiroVette – great job! As you say, you’ve been playing the same run for hours. The game isn’t really intended to handle this kind of runs, however, and that’s why you are experiencing glitches and troubles with the sound.

You are, by the way, completely right about the expense of using keys! We opted for this solution because it ‘motivates’ the player not to continue the same run forever. We think that this model is much more challenging and engaging – which again only emphasises how amazing it is that you were able to reach 78+ millions using only 7 keys ☺

    Hi Polarbiker

I'll have to discuss this one with the developers. I'm sure that it is not designed to take away some of the coins. And you are right: There are 14 coins in one lane, so your math should be right.

Maybe the magnet stopped just before the jump ended - and therefore you didn't get all the coins from all 3 lanes?

I think the problem you are referring to (though I may be reading your post wrong) is the discrepancy between what the game puts into your wallet with the "Double Coins" purchase versus the game only giving you credit for single coins in terms of the Power Jumper challenges.

For the record, I HATE the power jumpers and I hate the challenges involving them. Seriously, without a magnet, you get credit for 14 coins for each power jumper. The challenge is sometimes 1000 coins or 2000 coins with the power jumper. That is a ridiculously long challenge to tackle in a run. It is made even worse by the fact that, for some reason, the Power Jumpers become incredibly scarce whenever there is a challenge involving them up on your list! lol

    Thanks!

Yeah, I take the subway to and from work and that gives me time to run! It is a little surreal at first playing Subway Surfer on a New York City Transit train. lol

Yeah I have found that most of the aforementioned glitches can be avoided by pausing the game after much shorter play periods than I did in that insane run. Sometimes, I can get the lag to stop and the character to start moving better again (in other words not shaking all over the place) by pausing my game and shutting off the iPad for a while. However, once the music stops or I lose the sound effects, that seems to be gone forever unless I reboot the game entirely. So my solution is to not play too long in any one sitting.

Well, no it was not 7 keys, it was seven "Save Me's" which was a ton of keys. lol I actually used 1 + 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 + 32 + 64 keys (in other words, seven times). What's great about this system is that it forces you to make a decision. You can't just stick it out and get 100 million (which was what I was shooting for in that run). When I hit 52 million showing and crashed, I had to decide if I wanted to fork up 128 keys to keep going. I opted not to continue because I didn't want to pay 128 keys, and I satisfied myself with the 78.8 million total.

Honestly, if the key usage didn't double, it would really cheapen the high scores and make them less about skill and more about endurance.

Thanks for the reply. Nope - it's not the magnet expiring. Before posting, I ran Power Jumpers in each lane to make sure there were, in fact, 14 coins in each lane, and I ran Power Jumpers with Magnets in all three lanes to make sure I got the same number of coins each time. I did. The numbers are consistent, but, apparently, wrong. Did no one else ever notice this?

Also, in reply to ChiroVette's reply, this isn't a problem with the doubler. The numbers I listed were coins added to my account, not coins applied to missions. And, yes, I agree with you, Power Jumpers are the second worst "improvement" to the game. The first worst are the missions that use Power Jumpers. I don't have three weeks to spend trying to get 2000 coins, and I've never seen 10 PJs in a single run. My best run is just over 7,000,000 points (several boards and keys), and there weren't even 10 in that run. Not that I would have used them, even if they were there. That far into a run I avoid PJs so that I don't end up coming down right in front of three barriers side-by-side, or in a station with a train in the center, or at the entrance to a tunnel, or...

    Hi polarbiker,

Sorry to keep you waiting! We still need a little more time to test the issue. I've talked to the tech guys. They had not heard of the issue before, and offhand they did not have a guess to why it happened. They got a lot of stuff to do right now with the next update - but I'll give you a heads up as soon as they have checked the issue.

    About the Power Jumpers:
We are aware of the challenges in both using Power Jumpers and completing Missions in regards to Power Jumpers. I still think they are a cool feature which adds something different and new to the game. Maybe we've set the bar a little too high in the Missions. It’s a delicate subject and we are doing our best to balance the game so there is something exciting and challenging for everyone. However, I can promise you one thing: Power Jumpers don't become more scarce when there is a Mission with them, but I'm sure it often feels like that when you need them :D
