Is there any way to get them back to working as they did in iOS4.x? I'm sure the answer to this is no, but they're so bad in 5.

For those that hadn't noticed, subtitles are now linked to the video frame rather than the screen, as well as lacking a black outline - a semi transparent box behind the subtitles is used to increase visibility. This is a problem as if you zoom any video the subtitles zoom along with it, and text at the edges may be cropped:

    unzoomed

    zoomed

On top of that the box behind the subs is hideous and distracting.

Assuming there is no work around and an official fix (or change back to iOS4.x style) is not in the works, can anyone recommend another good video player?

(Movie is Spirited Away if anyone was wondering)

Oh also my video thumbnails (replaced them all with movie posters) keep resetting back to the default TV screen icon whenever I add new videos. Anyone know what's up with that?

I just use airvideo and stream from my pc it does a really good job and it's instant for me you can also just have it do the converting and manually put the files on itunes if you want.

As for the subtitles I think airvideo hard encodes them over the picture but with a black outline and doesn't have the bordering like your screenshots, I haven't anything to test at the minute or I'd take a screenshot but I can recall them being readable enough.

Probably not what your after in honesty but it's one of the better apps I've bought.
