But generally in games, the less damage you take, the better a player you are. Whether you've won or not is not the issue I was making - I was talking about how many points you receive once you've won. And the difficulty level is already taken into account in the score with the multiplier at the end.
Awesome idea! Use the alpha version graphics in a lite version and you'll have everyone swarming to buy!
It doesn't sound like there is much replay value? I guess at $0.99 it's not that big of a deal...but I would prefer not to be bored with it after 15 minutes (due to lack of difficulty).
There are some great mechanics here, but I do agree, hopefully we'll see a better and better AI with each revision and I'm SURE you fanatical multiplayers ("It isn't even a GAME if it doesn't support multiplayer, blah di blah blah") will come around once they release the multiplayer version.
It's weird - it's not that difficult to win (except getting the high scores I've seen - I think my highest was around 9000 - I don't understand how people are getting tens of or even hundred thousand) and there's not a lot gameplay depth. But for some reason I keep going back to play it. Maybe because I really like CCGames. Or maybe it's my silly notion of trying to get on the high score list...
I agree - it's not a lot of gameplay depth. On the other hand, other card games don't necessarily have that depth - i.e. Uno or Solitaire. Multiplayer would probably help. I would personally vote for a daily or weekly high score list as well as the all-time high score list. Perhaps there would be something else to shoot for then. I still enjoy playing this game from time to time just to improve my record or try (once again) to get on that high score list.
BTW, if you want a pretty good card game, check out Orions. It's got a few bugs, but generally a fun game to play - much closer to the standard card games like Magic than Strongholds is (summoning creatures to hash it out and try to take out the opposing wizard). I would SO love it if MTG came out on iphone. With the new 3.0 implementation of in-game purchases, Wizards could easily rake in the money by allowing users to purchase new card sets as each one comes out. I can't imagine it would be that difficult to make either given that it's already on Windows. The only issue might be how to fit all the played cards in the screen as well as allowing the user to see the details of the cards. But I've gotten off track...
Don't buy Orions. Company doesn't deserve the support. It's one of the few good apps out there that gets basically no updates. There were TWO expansions already for other platforms when this got released, they told many people via email that they were planning on releasing an update, and then sometime around iDrac development, they took a flaming dump on Orions and basically told everyone to **** off and that they won't see an update. It's a good game but do yourself a favor and pick up a WinMo emulator and grab the app and xpacs through google. Support companies who support their fans.
I would buy Rogue Touch again or Pocket God again if I could (just to support their constant efforts).
Update v 1.6 submitted - added 6 new cards! - "win by costruction" conditions changed. 60 -> 70 - AI was improved. - fixed some errors. - new more balanced hiscore formula.
I hear you and AGREE their support was weak. Even cheesier is that it seemed that they had already decided they were done supporting the game but couldn't come out and say it choosing instead to string folk along so as to perhaps squeeze a few more sales out of it. Feeble as it may be, however, I have yet to give up hope. I think support for Orions is done and the game has been abandoned BUT what I think they've decided to do instead s retool the concept behind Orions into an all new game that is no half assed port but something completely new for the iphone. If and when this game is announced I would think owners of Orions would be able to make a good case for free promo codes since this would be the update they were promised but never got. I haven't had any communications with the developers to this effect but I think a lot of Orions problems came from it NOT being designed for the iphone from the ground up. By getting some commercially successful games out there like Knights Onrush and iDracula they will have really built up their street cred with the masses (although, yeah, they've lost a LOT with those who purchased Orions initially) so that when they turn back to do a whole new updated Orions many normally ambivalent folk will check it out since it's done by "those guys".
Yes! You have a great game here and are actively supporting it. I have faith you'll eventually get some decent AI in there.
Wonder what the new scoring is like. And yeah, thanks Ashenebal for being a great dev and supporting the game so well.
I agree. I look forward to the new cards - any preview of what they might be? Also, any timeline set up for multiplayer?
A good review here: http://theportablegamer.com/2009/06/iphone-review-strongholds/ must be in 1st post of thread i think.
i may write a review of it soon. I bought it the other day and im really enjoying it. The games are a nice length so that your not at it for ages but over straight away either. Lots of variety and strategy needed. Very well done
