I mean for a regular game that is tracked on the scoring charts. Something along the lines of a scoring rebalance, more than win conditions. My fault for not being clear. Ash: Check some cards score values as well. It almost looks as if certain cards are granting higher bonuses then intended. Not sure which ones, but i suspect the +player stats /-cpu stats cards (howitzer, helipad, etc). Ill have two games that play out very similarly, but end with one 70k score and one "Try again" message.
Would it be possible to do a "Submit score online later" thing? I finally manage to make one of the highscores and my WiFi dies on me. I also noticed that you get less attacking cards if you're opponent is low, or almost no build cards when you're close to 60. Probably intended, but I was at 58 or so for a while in a game and not a single building card showed up.
One thing I had thought about trying (haven't done it yet) is to try a game where I get a major build card on the initial deal and discarding repeatedly, hoping to get a win with only ~3 plays. I think that turns might be a better metric than cards used. I don't know that there necessarily needs to be a bonus for winning without using base completion, since damage inflicted is taken into account. However, I agree that the default setting of 60 is too low.
So it's confirmed that discarding cards doesn't count as playing them? I'm still trying to get a Double Impact/Air Attack/Sacrifice combo. Cards are simply unlucky for me. The game itself is luck-based in a way. Edit: I just did a 7 card rush to 60 on Normal, and I got 6000 points. Looks like early rushing doesn't do much, because hardly any damage was done on either end.
If you look at the scoring formula that Ash provided, rushing to a win is the best way to get a high score. However, rushing in of itself won't do it. Your total score is divided by the number of cards played, so even minimal scoring in each category in a 10 card game is geometrically greater then moderate scores in a 20 card game. High scores require doing some damage, hording some resources, and hitting 60 asap. It more a matter of luck then skill in many aspects. Granted though, once you get the cards you gotta be sure to play them strategically with 2-3 turns into the future in mind! Higher scores can happen more frequently then luck alone would allow.
I do understand that, that game was just bad on my part because it was straight rush with no attacks. The attack score was 2000 and damage to me score was 2000, which explains the low total.
Does anyone want a promo-code for our next game? Those who does just have to make a video review of Strongholds with voice-over comments and upload it to youtube.com! The one who made the best review would receive 1 promo-code for Strongholds (e.g. for a friend) and 1 promo-code for our new game that shall be published approximately in two weeks!
In multiple tries one thing I observed is that I always get higher scores by rushing to destroy the enemy base rather than rushing to complete my base before the enemy does. The longer the game takes to complete, the lower the score I get... hence, I tend to agree that a lengthy war of attrition is not a very good way of getting high scores, but for me it's the most enjoyable way of playing the game. Wow any hint on what kind of game this will be?
Just curious - has the scoring system glitches been worked out? I'm still at a loss as to how the scoring works. I get the general concepts as mentioned in the last few pages of this thread, but a formula would be nice. I like that there are categories to tell me what I scored, but I can't quite figure out much else. I have also noticed that in the normal mode I am losing much more than prior to the update. Or have I just gotten worse?
Apparently all the scores are added up and divided by the number of cards played. I'm also guessing that each point of damage is 1000 points, so going for a quick 25 kill with 4 cards played would be something like 500000/4 = 125000. Also, normal mode is the higher level one. The original one was easy mode.
I believe they are changing the scoring formula. Ash has said scores were not intended to get so high. The culprit is the way damage scores are calculated. If anyone has gotten a score over 50k you know what i mean. Take a look at the damage scores relative to everything else.
