I wasn't familiar with that game so I googled it. It seems it was the precursor to XCOM? That's awesome. This game is heavily inspired by XCOM so I suppose it owes a debt to Laser Squad too. I was able to make some progress. I created two new character classes for it making the roster 12 classes. Will show pics and more progress shots next week.
Thanks. Here are some more progress shots. I did a new character that I'm tentatively calling the "Cyborg" class. He'll be half human, half robot and will have some very different stats as a result: - high morale / fearless due to suppressed emotional impulses - high accuracy due to targeting implants - high physical strength for melee - ability to hack into computer terminals, defense turrets, etc. due to cybernetic implants - low critical resistance due to dependence on cybernetic implants that can be damaged Strike Team Cyborg WIP Closeup by Rajpreet Dhillon, on Flickr He's the guy standing behind the female medic. I haven't got the hand positions quite right yet for his weapon so that's why he's holding it at a funny angle.
Yeah loved laser squad and there was another game at the time, that played same but looked closer to this than laser squad... can't remember it's name
Mr Dhillon I had no idea this was in the works. All the best and let me know if/when you want beta testers.
look interesting. how fast is the gameplay pacing? is it on fast or slow side? I been play other game and got bored because everything is so slow....
At the moment, players can choose one of the existing character classes and rename them. Then as the player develops, you can give different equipment and upgrades and stuff to them. However, there isn't the ability yet to really make your own character and change the appearance and so forth. Most likely not. I do want to have some character involvement, dialogue and choices that affect the plot. However, the events in the game are in a very small timeframe. Although there will be around 30 hours of gameplay, the whole plot centers around 1 day in which the heroes are trying to reclaim an allied ship from aliens. So there really wouldn't be time with the plot for strong character development like romance, rivalry, hatred, etc. Everyone will be too busy trying to survive the one day of action.
Yeah, about 30% of the campaign built at this point. Will be a while before it's ready for release. Not sure if we'll do open beta testing or not at this point. It's built on the Demon's Rise codebase so I'm hoping things will be stable and well tested already from the core game code perspective.
For a turn based strategy game, it's on the fast side. There will also be a speed option to make the actions move at 1 of 3 speeds.
Exactly. Actually you can play DR quite fast for a TBS game, though most games of this genre by nature are slow going and it is part of the attraction. You take your time thinking of your tactics and the consequences of every move. I think the pacing in Demons Rise is pretty spot on. I personally never use the speed up option.
Thanks guys ... glad you're excited for it. Beta (if we do it) is still a while away. Here's today's progress pic. Level 8 of the campaign. There's a new alien in the doorway. Strike TEam WIP 4 by Rajpreet Dhillon, on Flickr
This game looks amazing - the graphics themselves look impossibly good! Came here from the DR2 thread (bought, downloading).
