Anyone played any of the special missions? There are an additional 20 levels that can help you gain xp and level up your team. Not sure if that's obvious ... it's the big green button in the campaign window.

Heh, I only used grenades once so far, to see how they work. But agree, that's damn impressive to get through the first 7 stages without using a single skill once.

Yep, played first 4 so far. Great fun ;)

Cool. I originally planned to have a lot more than 20 at launch but had to leave a few on the cutting room floor. As I update the game, though, I'll add more levels here.

Wrap them into a package that uses them in a new story chapter, and add the maps to the extra missions as well. Use the new chapter to introduce a new soldier (I'd really like to see robot or cyborg melee tank, like those RIFTS Coalition Robots/Cyborgs *) , with a solo mission or two, one with 1 or 2 other units, and 1 with a full squad (yours).
Voila, complete DLC pack for 7-10 bucks, with each part available separately for a buck (soldier) or two (map packs), 3-4$ for the "story pack". Pretty much what the Warhammer Quest games are doing, as a practical example.

    * Cyborgs like these guys, RIFTS Full Conversion Borg: http://images.frpgames.org/products/product_11187.jpg

DLC? That's a four letter word around these parts.

If I want to expand the story, I might do a separate mini-game or something in the future. If I'm doing just a couple extra characters or levels, I'll just add that for free. Robot melee character would be cool. I'm thinking of maybe adding a trio of different robots that could be added to the team like the mercenaries from the Demon's Rise games.

True but unfortunately once I put in an in-app purchase then most players presume that there are gems, timers, etc.

Played up to 5th special mission, so far so good! Keep them coming!

Have to say that playing on iPad pro 12.9 makes a huge difference.

Have a question on Team, so if we swap a member in between mission, does the new character gets level up to where the team's level at? So if the team is at level 3 and u swap out one of the character, does the new one get level up to 3? Also, would you recommend in changing character in between missions? I haven't tried other characters and was curious to see how the other characters play. Thanks!

    A comment on the inventory.
I mentioned in one of the Demons thread some time ago that having a tapped item "attached" to your finger was somewhat non intuitive and cumbersome.
I thought you were in agreement at that time, perhaps not?

Tap to see an items description only and then dragging and dropping is what I find to be a natural action.
But thats just my opinion. Eventually one gets used to the sticky item system, I guess.

Really? Not so if the description says it is DLC. Once again, just my opinion.

Oh and just a small bug.
In the save screen the "Select a slot to save your game...." menu covers the top left hand save slot on the 12.9" iPad Pro screen.

Yes, the xp gets carried over so you don't lose anthing by switching a character. I would recommend doing it often to try different strategies.

Yes, I agree ... just didn't get time to test it yet. Will try along with some other improvements to the store for the first major update.

Yeah, I think that happens on most iPad. I'll put that on the list of things to fix. The slot can still be used. There's just some overlap.

    True.

You could make the first line of your description "iAP is for additional DLC content only." And go on to describe what you get for the initial purchase

"Let's Rock!" is for guns with fire control aka smartgun. It would be cool since such baddie has not been featured since Gundam Sentienl...

"Vasquez Bullet Hell" for machine gun is okay

Rifle? Let me see -- "Let me introduce to you a friend of mine" or "Friend of Hudson" will do.

    [FEATURE REQUEST] Skill hotkey buttons

I make so much use of the Commander's +AP Skill currently, that the extra taps to bring up the skill screen, select, and activate get annoying.

Can you consider adding 2 or so hotkey buttons for skills? My idea is that for each soldier you can assign a skill to each button. Then you have your most wanted skills directly on the screen.

Yes, it'll make the UI more crowded, but there is still room at the bottom, to the right of the "Terrain" button.
I'd even suggest to put Log and Terrain on a single button (one needs a normal tap, the other a longtap). On the other hand, that's not intuitive, as I've never seen that used before in a game UI (2 different functions on the same button), so maybe not the best idea.
If you make the Terrain button a bit smaller and put it slightly more to the left, that should make room for 2 buttons.
Skill icon only should be ok, no need for text I think.

    Really crude example setup:

Really enjoying this game! Spent some time playing through mission one after another up to 10, then 2 special missions.

Income is a bit slow as I think money rewards increase in ~100 increase for each sequential missions. At mission 10 the reward was 2000, I believe. I had to decide either to buy one 3* item, two or three 2*items, or a bunch of bargain bins with no stats (which I think does nothing but take your cash for buying them). I decided to it was better to have 2-3 members with slightly better numbers than rely on one soldier with a beefy stat stick. Not game breaking by any means, but I'm hoping the rewards get a balance patch eventually.

Class-wise, I'm really enjoying the Spectre! The teleport ability and melee attacks really surprised me as I didn't think they would fit in my tactics style. Lucked out with an armor drop with 2% dodge and 4 damage reduction (he's only level 3), and it's like he's coated with teflon! Placebo or not!

Great job on this game WaveLight! Thankfully I have not had any bugs yet, and only have minor annoyances in some gameplay that I can learn to get used to. Your games are my gold standard in mobile tactical rpgs.

That's a really good idea but not 100% sure I would implement it yet. I'll need to try a few iterations. Your idea is probably the best but there are some challenges in both aesthetics and code that would need solving.

I'll spend some time on it this week and see what I can come up with. I think the command skill is quite unique in that it's a cheap ability that you would activate multiple times a turn. Not many other characters have that type of ability.

    Thanks, Rajpreet, very much appreciated!

Oh, you'd be surprised how often Mr.Missile can shoot with 2 Commanders fueling him ;)

Speaking of which, update for my starting squad setup:
Currently completed Story Mission 5, and the first four of the Extra Missions. Didn't need the Medic at all since I swapped in a second Commander.
So, go wild and swap the Medic for a third Commander to keep another combat unit AP-fueled.
Seeing how effective Mr.Missile is, I'd even go so far and suggest
2 Missiles, 1 Sniper (she has one more attack by default than Missile), 3 Commanders.

Only when you run into trouble (which should happen sooner or later), swap one Commander out for a Medic.
And when you need close-combat power, swap a Missile out for the Nova or Assault.

That's an interesting setup. Have you tried the incinerator yet? He has a very unique weapon since he starts the game with a very high hit chance but with shorter range and less damage. So whereas other guys need to move around to flank those in cover, the incinerator can go right up the middle and burn them out of cover with his flame thrower. It's a very different style of play. His grenades also allow him to set the ground on fire, which permanently makes those positions hurt anyone that occupies them. Very good from a control perspective.

Also, do you have anyone with the AI hack ability? You'll probably need it later since you will come across disabled droids and turrets that you can reboot with that skill. Not essential by any means, but very helpful.

For the UI, I'm thinking of trying to add some hot keys above the end-turn button. Of course, I have to then try to avoid accidental end-turn presses so I might go with a "Confirm End Turn" dialog or something.

I'm also trying to add the option for a "confirm move" button that pops up to prevent accidental moves. However, the versions I've tried aren't really that intuitive to me. So if I do it, it'll be in the options menu so it can be turned on or off.

Also looking at having units that have sufficient, unused action points to automatically hunker down when the end-turn button is pressed. I figure there's no down side from a gameplay perspective and will save players time from doing so manually for each soldier. Truthfully, I don't find I have many unused action points at the end of a turn so it may be a moot point.

Awesome ... glad you like it! Level 10 is pretty far in ... how did you find the first boss? He's the first fearless enemy in the game, meaning that he doesn't care about morale. He'll keep fighting regardless and can't be suppressed.

Yeah, I'll tweak the formula for today's update to reduce the price of items a fair bit. I think I went a little too heavy on the costing formula. I would definitely recommend saving your money for expensive items, though to be honest, I got up to level 20 or so before I even spent much time in the shop. I generally just use what I find after each battle.

Nice placebo reference ... I've actually been listening to them lately. Not sure why. Maybe I'm trying to relive my teenage years.

The Spectre is a fun character. His blade and teleport skills are great and his shadow field ability makes him very hard to hit. His gun is a short range weapon but packs a decent punch as well so he's not purely a melee guy.

I think my personal favourite is either the Nova Marine or Incinerator. Both are short range specialists and there's just something so satisfying about either burning a bunch of enemies in cover or just giving them a shotgun blast to the face. :D

Thanks, I really appreciate the encouragement.
