No Tekken vs Street Fighter footage yet.

Oh yeah, and Street Fighter 3 online (PS3/ Xbox 360) also announced.

Uhh, it's actually called Street Fighter x Tekken. There is no versus. And I personally don't care for the idea of it. But MvC3 is ****ing amazing, I played it at e3 and loved it and played it earlier today at sdcc and I love it.

I'm mixed about this. I am disappointed that this is the 'big announcement' that they had been hyping up, meaning no new Darkstalkers (which was what many people were hoping for, myself included), and there are also other companies which I'd rather they do a crossover with (*cough*Sammy/Aksys*cough*).

However, this is also a good thing in my eyes. I can't stand 3D fighters, and Tekken pretty much represents what I dislike about them. Putting them into 2.5D a.k.a SFIV mode actually gives me a chance to like playing as those characters.

However, Tekken x Street Fighter? I don't even wanna touch that. SF characters in Tekken gameplay mechanics would be terrible, IMO.

Much more excited for MvC3 though, if I'm honest.

I'm less convinced after that video than I was before. I played SFIV until I got bored of it, and this is kinda looking like nothing more than a Tekken character DLC pack. I wouldn't buy the same game over again just because some characters are from another game, it's just not that exciting to me.

More characters and tweaks to the gameplay are a big deal to the fighting game community, hence constant updates to fighting games (e.g. SSFIV). Also, it looks like there are some quite major changes, such as the inclusion of a rolling recovery from the ground.

True that, but it's still a fairly niche market. Not everyone goes to tourneys and cares about a roll being added. My friend has already felt the urge to upgrade from SFIV to SSFIV, and he's not a championship player by any means, yet I'm sure he'll convince himself he needs yet another upgrade just for the shiny new packaging.

Well not every fighting game fan is a tourney player, myself included. In fact, I'll bet that the super-hardcore players are a small percentage of the fighting game community, there are an awful lot of newbies and 'middle-ground' players. The elites just tend to be more...vocal. So it's not that niche, it probably leans more towards mainstream if anything, since Tekken dominates the 3D realm and SF dominates the 2D realm.

I meant the hardcore, tourney type are the niche part of the market. They're the ones who don't mind buying the same game over and over with only a few changes. To me, SF x Tekken is just SFIV with some Tekken DLC, and I've paid for it already so I'm not about to do it again for the sake of a roll and a few new faces.

It's not really meant to appeal just to the hardcore though, most fighting game fans seem to be excited about this on both the Tekken and SF sides.

Exactly, that's where I see the problem. I'm not hardcore, neither are a couple of my friends... we've just seen the SF x Tekken video and thought "same as SFIV, pass". Anyone who bought SFIV for casual reasons is gonna think twice before buying this one because to them it's just too similar.

I'd be inclined to agree that casuals wouldn't be as interested in it, but I don't see it as a 'problem' as such, since there seem to be more than enough gamers interested in 'basically SFIV with Tekken DLC' to make it a success. I think games like SSFIV and HD Remix can serve as proof of that (cases of what could be seen as minor upgrades to the casual player).

I think it's very gonna be very fun. As one person said, I'm not a hardcore gamer, unlike my other friends. I usually stick to iDevice gaming and I thought Street Fighter IV sucked on the iPhone, just my opinion, don't flame me please.:)
