As someone who isn't very good at all on the iPhone version of the game (I'm only okay on the console version, TBH, but I can get the moves I want off when I want them - more than I can say for the iPhone version (actually, to be fair, offline on the iPhone I get the moves I want most of the time) I've been playing Friendly games online with Auto-Guard and SP Assist off (for the achievements, really).

And I have to say I can absolutely see the point of the SP button online - the lag was often so atrocious that I really struggled to get special moves off at all (at times I was having difficulty even jumping forwards). And the amount of times I'd spot a clear opening and unleash a game-winning ultra, only to find that by the time the move actually registered and was performed my opponent had wandered off, made a cup of tea, come back to the game, and got his block ready, well, it doesn't bear thinking about.

(And I do understand why some people might be annoyed that they spent so much time learning how to get fireballs, et cetera, off without thinking, every time, only for new players to be able to unleash them at will. But, when you think about it, once you've got your fireball down pat, and can get it off without thinking, the movement is so automatic it might as well be a single button-press. Not saying I agree or disagree. Just putting that out there...)

Seems to be a bit less deliberate disconnection going on now, though, which is encouraging. Capcom should definitely award the game to the opponent automatically, though - although they don't do that on any other version, so i won't be holding my breath...

Yeah there's no way you can turn SP-assist off in those laggy fights... I even have a hard time using charge-type characters in laggy fights with SP-assist on. o_O

Well I'm not using SP assist even though I can''t pull of the moves fluently with the touch screen (I'd say at best 60% of the time I nail it). I've been playing since the the original SF2 machine and to do the moves any other way just feels completely wrong to me also I don't want to lose any skills I have by playing it dumbed down.

Truthfully though as much as I consider myself very good on arcade machines or even any console with stick/buttons I'm getting destroyed so far because I'm trying to pull of the moves manually and when they don't work I get punished lag is probably playing a part as well.

I'd really like the option of non SP online matches online so at least whoever I'm playing against has the same advantages/disadvantages. I've nothing against sp players playing other SP players but I'd rather play against people trying to play it traditionally.

it seems to me some shortcut moves not available for this game on iPhone eh?

for example Akuma's super and ultra

no longer can press forward(backward), K and SP together after press P twice

Akuma's supers and ultras still work manually. P p -> k SP works just fine. No need to tap k and SP together - tap them one after the other.

Gg's last night Mooken! We gotta do that again, I really need more of that kind of level of play. I've been playing SF (and fighting games in general) a long time but not as much against other people in recent years.

That Teleport->Yoga Fire loop you had going with Dhalsim was insanity! Good stuff, let's do it again!

Not the same engine, there are a lot of gameplay differences. There are certainly similarities in the UI, in terms of movable buttons, an SP button, and tapping on your Meters to execute supers.

They allow for multiple supers but assigning one super to neutral+superbar, and another to toward+superbar.

Hops, jumps, superjumps are all there.

    SP assist has assignments to toward+sp, back+sp, down+sp, even downtoward+sp and downback+sp.

The menus are slicker -- they use a touch-drag to scroll through the longer menus, rather than using a scrollbar on the side.

KOF-i? Fantastic! All we need now is an updated 'SNK vs Capcom' for the iPhone...

(Genuinely can't decide whether 'Street Fighter IV Volt Battle Protocol' trumps 1999's 'SNK vs Capcom - The Match of the Millennium' on the Neo Geo Pocket Color for best handheld fighting game ever. Actually, on the basis of the controls, probably not...)

He's a good character, easy to use. He's my main character and I've won around 50 matches and only lost 2 so far with him, including drop-outs.
All the characters are very balanced, I didn't find anyone particularly hard to use, other than crimson viper. No one chooses her anyways.

Good point I haven't seen any C Vipers online yet, or any Cammys for that matter. I've always found her moves to be the most difficult to figure in terms of timing and such, plus unusual button combos. However, if I see one more SRK-spamming Ken, it may just be curtains ><!

You can play friendly unranked matches with ppl on your GC friends list.

You can play ranked matches against random ppl.
