Ive came accross 'GGPO' in a discussion somewhere, might have to read more. Cool, nice stick man! I just caught a Youtube clip about it, clicky Sanwa buttons? I finally got a decent computer so now i guess i can start looking into these things.. Join Drunken Style!
My biggest complaint about Ranked matches in Volt is that they don't have one standard setting. In HD Remix (which I've said in this thread before is my favorite Street Fighter game), I played Ranked for hours on end because I knew every match was best of three, the net code was sleek (better than Volt or SSFIV, that's for sure), and there was no damage handicap/auto guard/SP assist feature. So I knew that whoever I was facing in ranked had the same characters to choose from, with the same control rules that I used. It was a perfectly even plane. Volt is different in three key ways: number one, I don't know what automatic features my opponent is using. I just assume that everyone I play online fights with Auto Guard and SP assist on, and adjust my game accordingly. But I don't really know if my opponent can mash command throws or special moves at the same rate as normals, or if adding cross-ups in mix-ups matters. What I've accepted is that I'm probably walking into every match with less defensive and offensive options than my opponent does, and I don't really know if that's true. My timing and mind-reading just has to be that much more "perfect". Second, I believe Street Fighter Volt is the only game in the entire Street Fighter series that rewards the player for choosing the easier game mode. The auto-modes that existed in Alpha and the MvC series might make the game easier for dial-up combos or fundamentals, but it didn't really give players an intrinsic advantage over players who went manual. There was always some sort of bonus for people who really explored the engine that incentivized manual controls, like plinking or charge partitioning... something like that. In Volt all the engine advantages actually go to the person who uses SP assist or auto block. There is no disadvantage. If I wasn't such a masochist I'd be rocking the world with an SP assisted Zangief, Akuma, Guile or even Cammy and C. Viper (who were my mains in the original SFIV iPhone app). But I just find direction+SP or gameplay where I have to think less about defense boring to play. Finally (and this is true for every ranked player), it's very easy to protect your BPs by re-springing the app. It's still easy to do in 1.0.3. This problem didn't exist in HD Remix because kicking out of HD Remix in a ranked match (when you're losing) forces a loss to the person who disconnected and is losing. I have no idea how easy it is to implement that into Volt, but as long as it's that easy for rage quitters to inflate their score, it's one of those cases where you have to hate the game more than the player. So... double blind control settings, easier controls with extra advantages and no disadvantage, and rewarding the rage quitters. It's up to Capcom to fix these things if they want to, but ultimately games are about entertainment. And while Friendly matches are awesome (Honda is super fun!), I don't find playing Ranked matches in Volt entertaining for the following reasons.
As Snooper mentioned that there is a leeway to bring out the ultra while blocking. I'm not sure how online is on the consoles, but on Volt, lag needs to be taken into consideration. There's some that are really noticeable where inputs come out after 1/4 second, so for those, you need to push ultra 1/4 earlier than you would in a match where there is no lag. I see what you did there. I think we got ourselves a meme. Maybe it's just me, but I found it to be pretty good (maybe because I'm asian too?). He had the flashcard parts ready. I don't think he knew what to do much after and the moment kinda died off when he said "so what happens now? she takes the ring right?" Regardless of how badly executed it was towards the end, she's still hella hot. I have no idea how we could do this either. Maybe we could have a lottery system for the waiting list just so that those that read your post first don't get first dibs when there's plenty of active members that want to join the team. I thought it was the same situation for all charge characters. Could it have anything to do with the longer charge required for both those characters?
GGs and Merry Christmas to you! I handicapped myself during casuals just for fun... not to insult your game. Your Claw has gotten better since last time I played you in tourney! I am going to upload one of my rush-down Dhalsim games... I think it would be a great concept fight video, is that ok?
Good games, Finix! Didn't have SP Assist on, which really hurt my gameplay. Ah well, it was pretty fun! You have unlocked the following achievements! (Zoom past) as well as others. Cool.
Merry Xmas Sure, go ahead. I think i recorded almost all of them, cant remember if I uploaded any. That last one took forever to complete, I wanted to try and make you move towards me for a change! You got your flashy finish in the end... You let me win all of those for fun? I handicapped myself too..
Good games!! Didn't notice you turned SP off until vs Zangief, then I thought "it must be turned off." Very well done on using Yun especially! In fact, for Vega it is quite easy to turn it off but for the other characters I used are bit too complicated on virtual stick so mine is on. Oh, and please don't upload the first game if you recorded lol I had a terrible input lag. Connection got better eventually though! I need to figure out which one to practice next (that's why I didn't use my Vega as much) thinking of makoto. If you are like in a similar situation, let's play together so it won't be like one always killing the other. lol Thanks for inviting me!
The meme video was fantastic. And as far as block strings go, I've actually mashed ultra right through an FADC - the guy even walked up and threw me while I was sitting there mashing, mashing, mashing ultra. Or a sagat low-leg-knee (or was it low-leg low-leg low-leg?) over and over and unable to mash out the ultra.
GGPO is basically an online client for fighting games using the FireBurnAlpha arcade emulator. Some games like SF2, Vampire Savior, and other older games that don't have versions that allow online play have been kept alive because of it. But Capcom bought the rights to it and used it in 3SO and I think HD Remix. And man, I LOVE that stick! It seriously makes playing ANY game (even games like Tetris, Castlevania, etc) about 10 times more fun! And it makes playing fighters a ton easier too. I couldn't imagine going back to a pad after using a stick. Playing on a pad is much harder work actually. I agree 100% with all of your post but especially the second point. I just started using SP Assist after going Manual since the beginning and there's really no reason NOT to use Assist as much as it chaps my ass to say so. SP Assist actually makes some things possible that are either not possible or extremely difficult without it. I wasn't aware there were different charge times for each character, I thought it was a general 1.5-2 second charge for everyone. I charged the same for each character in my tests and mashed, but Bison and Blanka were the only two who didn't respond immediately when the chance to Ultra arose.
I very much agree about the SP topic. I was trying to stay a purist too, but like i said before, that is a cool thing you can do with Sonic Booms. Other combos into Flash Kick also...
I never use assistants while I'm playing (offline, ranked, friendly). At least for me, playing that way is more fun and shows my 'true skills'. I'm not saying that players who use assistants are just noobs, you need certain skills to play with the assistants too, but in a less range. Using my main, the only good reason for turn SP assistant on is the Sonic Boom -> Ex Sonic Boom. I find useless another stuff than I might do, like Flash Kick -> Double Flash (that can be done without assistant, but a little harder).
Like I said before, I think a lot of the issues you're having are specific to Blanka. His Ultra seems extremely situational based on my limited usage of Blanka.
No no! That's what playing Friendly is all about... less tense and be able to try new things! I handicapped myself to test my skills. I did go all out against your Claw - really have no intension of insult. Your Claw beat me well... But yes... I was looking for that flashy finish in set 10 against your Guile Your Guile needs to be more aggressive! bait my stand fierce, and jump over it. Police Vietnam might be a rage-quitter but he does a great job of staying in front of me and jumping over my stand fierce... Stand fierce's start-up and recovery have gotten slower and is very easy to punish now. I can't spam it like I used to!
