No, no tears, ha. I'm actually maining Honda after the changes because his nerf makes him a much more interesting character for me. I thought we were talking about changes to the game and wanted to share my opinions about it, that's all.
Why does everyone think guile is dead? He wasn't nerfed nearly as bad as ryu, bison or honda. Still, Sagat has always been the best character. And guile has bad matchups for sure. Dhalsim, Akuma and Sagat are the obvious ones, but I think Chun Li and Fei Long beat him too.
I'm probably wrong, but I had played SFIV on the iPhone heavily since vanilla so when Volt came out, and Guile was the same character as he was in vanilla, I was tearin' up Ranked. Now that the game's been rebalanced, all that matchup knowledge goes out the window.
honda hasn't actually changed too much. his standing kick does a smidge less damage, and if you didn't abuse his headbutt prior to the update (and keep it only for anti-air and combos), it doesn't really change the tactics too much.
Of all those characters, I would pick Chun Li or Fei Long. I feel like those two characters have the most tools to beat Guile. Sagat can hang with anyone. I'm still trying to feel out Dhalsim in this game.
Knowing that one blocked headbutt means far more damage than the zoning you earn makes Honda a completely different character. It's not SFII: World Warrior useless, but fortunately he does have other tools.
My favorite thing with Honda is shocking my opponents by FADCing out of my Hundred Hand Slap and doing either his command grab or Ultra.
Chun Li's been very interesting. If she applies pressure, particularly with knockdowns, she's a beast. Under pressure, not so hot. I had match-ups with a pretty good Chun Li last night. Whomever got the first knockdown would have a crushing victory -- fireball > high/low mixup > lightning kicks > repeat
Try playing against that with auto block and SP assist off. Sagat won't look as powerful as most people think he is.
I'm totally trying that tmr on my friend who mains Honda. As is we're pretty even, but that'll freak him out.
I don't get why everyone thinks Guile was so overpowered and why his low Roundhouse was unfair/abused. I'd say he's mid to high-mid tier at best. If he had Sonic Hurricane as his Ultra I could see him being quite a bit better than that. He's nowhere near overpowered. SAGAT is a tad overpowered, but definitely not Guile. The Super-->Ultra combo is something I'm honestly glad they nerfed. It's a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Eating damn near 50% damage for a mistimed jump in or a missed move is just way too much, and it STILL does that much damage. But I can get the Ultra in that combo you mentioned to hit 3 times But even with less invincibility frames, his SRK is one of the best moves in a game where having an SRK/SRK-like move is a key to high damage combos. Even WITH the nerfs, Ryu is one of the most balanced and solid characters in the game. He has a lot of great options and no real major drawbacks. Other than Bison, none of those characters you mentioned are really all that great, so saying Guile gives them trouble doesn't really help your case. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how Guile's low roundhouse was "abused." it's not like it wasn't a slow move that didn't have a lot of pushback on block.
Yeah, most of the things that I see in real matches, I try to replicate in Volt. Most of them don't work, however, in regards to this one...
I'll be playing friendlies for a bit. If anyone feels like they need a hug or 4, send an invite my way.
I feel like Sagat is a tad overpowered, but only because other characters lost what made them, them. It's not Sagat's fault that others were hit so badly with a nerf bat. I'd rather them give some tools back to the now pointless characters (like Blanka, for example) than to nerf Sagat directly. Speaking of Volt, Guile's low roundhouse never was unfair/abused. It was probably nerfed because too many people don't know how to block low.
Or they didn't go into training mode to test if you can SRK or otherwise squeeze in a move between the sweeps.
I forgot about that completely -- I remember one night I just went and watched a bunch of Mike Ross matches. Picked up the fasthands-standing kick and neutral jump P from him.
That's a lame excuse though. There were a lot of characters I had to get more familiar with once I started playing online because I was getting beaten by some of the same moves. But if you want to play, you do the work, not complain about how unfair a move you can't counter is. And it's not like Guile hasnt had that move in EVERY Street Fighter game he's ever been in. That little rant wasnt directed at you Felix, just blowing off a little steam in general.
Well, that's the thing though, it wasn't possible to squeeze any moves in between the sweeps pre-1.03.
