@teknikal and 2hvy: No need to fight guys- you both have valid points: there are a lot of people who will look at Volt and say it's not worth it, but then there are plenty who are glad to pay the price for the online play. I myself paid the full whack for vanilla SFIV when it first came out, and yes- although it only had 8 characters, its definitely about what's going on 'under the hood' as it's one of the deepest fighting engines out there, with a whole heap of subtleties to explore. Gladly paid for it, and would have done the same for Volt's incremental upgrade- i'd recommend it to anyone who is a SF fan, but not to somebody who is only casual about fighting games. Horses for courses and all that... Also, @ Gunxsword, going waaay back in the thread- remember that focus attack is about more than just absorbing: it's also critical to the focus attack dash-cancel (FADC) strategy for juggling opponents- e.g. hit with a shoryuken, but focus-cancel so that you stay on the ground instead of rising up. You can then go straight into a super or ultra. Furthermore, if you mess up your hit-confirming (like if you were probing the opponent's defense with jab-jab-SRK, and accidentally perform the SRK which gets blocked) you can focus-cancel it to avoid being vulnerable.
Lots of crying about SP spamming. Do notice that most if not all characters have ways to combat simple spamming tactics like fireball ocean. For example Ruy's and Ken's flying spinning kick (what ever the name is) goes through fireballs (except Sagat's high fireball). You can train playing against spammers in Training Room. Set SP Assist ON (temporarily), set dummy to REC, spam some move (like fireball) for 10secs and set dummy to PLAY. Now the dummy will constantly spam the move you told it to so you can figure out ways around it. Of course this isn't same as player who will do uppercut (Shoryuken) when you get close, but you can use the same trick to figure ways to beat uppercuts.
How to get Akuma: You can do this at any difficulty: Finish the game without using continue and fight Akuma as the last battle. You must NOT lose against Akuma otherwise you have to start over with that character. I beat Akuma on Beginner easily with any character but Chun-Li. Why you might ask? She feels like C Viper back on Vanilla SF4. For me, she deals extremely little damage. I usually finish the game with other characters at around 05:00, but with her it took ten minutes. All her attacks do very little damage except SP+Down which is kinda hard to do anyway. It might just be me who suck, but unlike vanilla SF4 where C Viper did too little damage and died easily, i own everything with her now. She still sucks in vanilla SF4, i tried to test her there. The tip (with Chun-Li) VS Akuma is just to charge back and load away SP to shoot ranged attacks on him, jump up and press P to hit him three times at the face, repeat, otherwise you will get pwned. Kill him without using any continue with every character=You have unlocked Akuma, my absolute favorite character. =)
When I accept it just shows connecting and wheel keeps spinning . I tried inviting you but it just shows waiting x.x
Wow that is a fairly impressive feature. Seems worthwhile ... hmmm . I don't suppose it can be set to just disconnect when its losing though....
A quick comment on the spamming of SP. My boys are 5 and 8 and the are (obviously) new to SF. They LOVE special moves - be it in a Mario game (think most any of the Sports titles) or a fighting game (Brawl). These moves are easily done, give a significant reason to choose a different fighter (new moves!!!), look great, and are very effective (esp at lower difficulty settings). For these reasons, my boys love SP moves and I can't blame them - it's why they play the game. For those struggling, a quick chess analogy. When playing inexperienced chess players, they will often attack to early - bringing out the queen for example. As a more advanced player, it does not do to complain that the opponent used a non-standard opening! A more advanced player should learn how to deal with and take advantage of such tactics. I understand the frustration - you put in time learning difficult moves perhaps with all assist off and someone playing for almost their first time is very effective against you. I suggest 1) learning to counter these tactics, or 2) friending people who don't play this way. #2 is fine as even if you learned how to defeat SP spamming it might not be what you want to do every match.
Watch out for Vintage_sky. He's a noob so I thought of going easy on him (my fault) and lost. So we had another fight and this time I gave my best. Won rather easily but, guess what, he ragequitted. Yeah that's the EX super ultra ultimate move no one can beat!
Wait , so all the 'You have been disconnected' messages are rage quits ? I thought it was game center having problems .
They should remove sp assist from ranked matches. It might be tolerated in friendly matches but not in ranked.
i only seem to get them after i won the second point -_- even though i always stay when i lose, starting to piss me off and wish they would just incur a loss when disconnected after that point! seems crazy that its not like that
Here's hoping that Capcom will add that as feature: "Dummy disconnects when hit: NO/RANDOM/ALWAYS". More seriously though, I hope they add Dan "The Man" Hibiko. Best character ever.
Hey guys, Does anybody have a counter to folks who will throw a Shoryuken every time you jump over? I can never get pass this dirty trick.
