QUICK ANNOUNCEMENT: The side tournament we're about to hold is shaping up pretty quickly! If everything goes well, we can even start as soon as Sunday. Most people are choosing to have 2 matches a week. It will last 10 rounds, so it will end in 5 weeks. By then, if enough people are interested, we can even have a Season 2! Just a quick rundown of the format: - The tournament will be a Double-Elimination Bracket Tournament. If you don't know how this works, when you lose once, you are sent to loser's bracket. If you lose again in the loser's bracket, you are only knocked out of the tournament - All but the championship round will be Best of 3 2/3 round matches. Championship matches will consist of Best of 5 2/3 round matches. - Since most are willing to do 2 matches a week, the breakdown on the weekdays will be Sunday-Wednesday and Thursday-Saturday. After the first 2 rounds, Thursday-Saturday will be used for the Loser's Bracket and there will be less matchups on those days. That's it for now, hope you guys are hyped as I am of starting this side tournament! @Dr.MaCkY there's 6 people that listed themselves on the spreadsheet, but aren't members here on TA. They are: woohohoho, Frames Advantage, Jaewon.C, HAPP_Klaus, YYOJJO, and -Bin. I'm sure they were informed through Facebook. Make sure they make an account here so they are always informed of what's going on. Once it gets started, you should post the link to the tournament so they are always aware of what's going on.
Thread to the Double-Elimination Tournament: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=109385 For those participating, there's a poll going on that thread on how many characters we should be allowed to use. @Dr.MaCkY Post this on Facebook too?
hahaha thats so true. but thats because none of them have a fireball, and as we all know, fireball characters are rhe best in the game, right?
How the f*** do some people block before they hit the ground? Do they just have their agility cranked way up in the Wondering Warrior thing? Auto has matched me up with the same guy five different times this afternoon who was able to block 100% of my moves while he was jumping (animation would suddenly cut from him almost a whole body length off the ground to a standing block). The animation would freeze for a super combo while he was in the air and he'd still be able to pull off a huge counter attack. It's really pissing me off. He's not good, but he beat me like 5 out of 7 times because of that. He used Ryu, BTW.
No lag at all actually. When I said it froze, I meant when the action pauses as the character "charges up" for the combo.
Working on a new tier list, need some opinions on a few matchups: Guile-Bison Guile-Dhalsim Guile-Blanka Guile-Ryu Zangief-Bison Zangief-Honda Zangief-Blanka Ryu-Blanka Viper-Honda Viper-Gief Viper-Blanka Dhalsim-Blanka Ken-Guile Blanka-Bison Any help is appreciated, especially if you main one of the characters. Thanks
It's called a safe jump my man, alot of people do it to bait out counter attacks, infact its a huge part of how I play. If they are blocking your attack its by no accident they noticed a pattern and are punishing you for it. Your best bet is to come up with tech that doesnt revolve around jump in punishes. The animation can make it look like its magic sometimes but I promise you people are just using it to bait out attacks. Youtube safe jumping in street fighter 4 and they usualy can break it down for you.
I didnt consider that, thats probably what it is. But strictly speaking, a safe jump is when you knock soemone down a certain way, do something, so then the timing for when you jump in means if they block then you just do a blockstring and if they try to do anything else it will whiff, get counterhitted or blocked. Really useful for characters like akuma who live off knocking you down and not letting you up.
6/4 Guile. Bison doesn't really have any answer to Sonic Boom that doesn't involve putting himself at risk (Head Stomp) or using EX moves. Guile's recovery seems a bit better than Bison's which it harder for Bison to outdraw him in the normals department. I'd put this one at 6/4 but maybe even 7/3 in Sim's favor. Guile doesnt need to get in on Sim to win, but if he loses the life lead, getting it back is a steep uphill battle. One of Guile's toughest matchups. 6/4 Guile. Much like Bison, Blanka doesn't have much of an answer for Sonic Booms that doesnt require risk or EX power. His best bet is to try and counter booms with EX rolls and try to stay up in Guile's face which can be a dangerous proposition. 6/4 Ryu. Ryu's a better zoner than Guile what with the faster fireballs and even if Guile gets in, Ryu's normals are pretty powerful. Guile needs to keep the space close and try to bait Dragon Punches or close fireballs. Either that or hope he can catch Ryu with an EX boom from full screen and let time run out if said Ryu is a fireball spammer. 5/5. Guile packs a punch, but Ken is fast. Dragon Punch beats pretty much anything Guile has with it's speed, but guile's power and good recovery make the match a lot more even especially where fireball fights are concerned. IMO.
Guile-Dhalsim: I still think this is 5-5. Guile-Blanka: 6-4 Guile-Ryu: 5-5 Zangief-Bison: 6-4 Ryu-Blanka: 5-5 Dhalsim-Blanka: 4-6 Ken-Guile: 5-5 Just my opinion.
Since I'm commenting on the tiers I'll throw out a couple more thoughts. On Dhalsim, I don't see his matchups with Balrog and Yun as 4-6. Balrog doesnt offer Anything that Dhalsim cant counter His slide works well against most of his punches and having a fireball always helps against Balrog. I could be wrong about Yun since I haven't played many good ones. I'm also not sure about Abel although I did used to see it as 4-6. His slow fireball works well against Abel's roll and he can transport quickly away before tosses. But as mentioned above I think he's 5-5 against Guile and 4-6 against Blanka.
this is also at your other post. guile blanka is already 6-4. guile ryu i also think is 5-5 but doctamario thinks its 6-4 ryu. reasons? zangief bison i forgot to change. ryu blanka ill change. sim blanka ill change. ken guile is already 5-5. dhalsim balrog: well all of balrogs ex punches beat limbs and fireballs, and balrog doesnt have too much trouble against fireballs in general. also headbutt will beat any teleport shenanigans and his super and ultra beat limbs and fireballs. yun dhalsim is definitley, DEFINITLEY 6-4, maybe 7-3. ex lunge punishes teleport im pretty sure, divekicks give him trouble, shoulder gives him LOTS of trouble. its not as bad ae but its still really bad, just that nobdy plays yun online edit: oh and doctamario reckons that dhalsim guile is 6-4. i probably agree with him on that one actually abel dhalsim is 6-4 imo. im pretty sure most abels dont effectivley use step kick, but a blocked or hit step kick- jumping kick beats everything including teleport, except ex up flame. also his dash is crazy good so focusing through fireballs or limbs is effective. and he can ultra fireballs. roll is actually really overrated. only good against fireball spammers or ex roll for getting out the corner.
