Yea, I considered quitting against Dhalsim at the start too, haha. Thanks for all your tips, I'm definitely gonna use it and I've seen some videos of Zangief vs Dhalsim and I noticed they use Lariats a lot when are on safe position to build Ex Meter and get close to Dhalsim with Ex Banishing Flat. Thanks a lot, I'll invite you for some friendly matches later!
My Fellow Comrade, I started off playing Zanfief a lot and then switched to Bison. Altho I can't contribute much to Gief's strategy, I think in general against Dhalsim is that: Step 1: 1) Be patient. His attacking options are usually a) Teleport behind you, b) Yoga fire and teleport towards you, etc Beyond that, most Dhalsims are just defending which gives you an advantage if you rush down and keep attacking him. If he starts teleporting away and counter-attack you, go to step 2 below. Step 2: Don't do anything and watch what he does. You see, Dhalsim CANNOT rush and attack you. I had a replay (non-jailbreak so haven't figured out how to extract the replay out) which shows this logic very well. I.e. If you start fireballing him, he can teleport and attack you. If you don't do anything, he starts to get confused and anyhow teleport. That's when step 3 happens: Step 3: Dhalsim's teleport is not invincible, so you can hit him/slam him etc, but you must be able to guess correctly where he will appear. Best is to have him near the corner so that he will appear still somewhere near you. I had an easier time as I was using Bison, and I realised Dhalsim's attacking options are so limited that if i kept moving back, whatever teleport he does, and appear and punch with that long arm, my autoblock can almost take care of it. In Round 2, I was basically kicking him and slamming him to death. EDIT: OMG, just checked the player card: [:Ken.Ken:] 3165 BP, 4372/738 Win/Loss. Dhalsim Used: 8325 times. I must be damn lucky...
Does Green Hand work against his limbs or does it get beat? It's pretty fast, I would imagine that even on a trade you'd come out ahead as Gief and since the recovery is so quick you could have another one out before he recovers, no?
I can't play during work hours either. I was just throwing out the friend request before I forgot. And I'd expect nothing less than your best. Your reputation preceded you in this thread so don't disappoint. I see no shame in losing to good players and welcome the experience.
Banishing Flat pass through yoga fire but is punishable against crouch punch. You have to use Ex Banishing Flat to pass through yoga fire and hit Dhalsim (it has 2 hits)
These thoughts make a lot of sense, but just like Dhalsim, be careful getting too comfortable with a strategy. The autoblock/pressing back in response to teleports works well until Dhalsim switches to the kick slide. I haven't played you yet, but I find that one or two of these causes opponents to start to crouch block, leaving them open again for the teleport-air punch. Personally, I just find that rushdowns work great against Dhalsims. But lately I have noticed a change in strategies. Sagats were typically the toughest characters to deal with because they used the rushdown so well. Then I got the hang of responding to that strategy and I've noticed a few that just block like crazy and even seem to predict every move I make. They become a sort of counter move character and that's a tough strategy to overcome as Dhalsim (in my opinion it takes more skill than the rushdown strategy). Anyway, Blebla, if you ever want to practice against a Dhalsim, feel free to hit me up nights EST or weekends for some Friendly matches. GC ID is in my sig.
Banishing Flat is also punishable by a noogie which knocks down Zangief and allows Dhalsim to reset the action. I actually don't know if Ex Banishing Flat is punishable by noogie.
The timing to hit a limb is pretty difficult and not worth the effort. I think Gief will get punish even if he connects. The Banishing Flat is deceivingly fast because of the range it covers in such a short amount of time. It actually has a slow start up and a slow recovery (if connects) that allows it to be easily be counter with a throw before or after. Stick with EX banishing flat to punish and use reg. banishing flat to cover grounds when its safe.
I see Shoryotofu has joined us here. Good to have you here. And since everyone seems to be asking you for tips, got any tips on how I can beat your Gief?
I played while drinking last night and let my BP slip below 1000. Now I only play people with BP under 1000, which means almost 100% rage-quitters. Because of that, I can't get it back up again because my wins don't count. It even keeps going lower because of the occasional loss. I'm going to try choosing to fight more skilled fighters and see if I can remedy this. It's really pissing me off. When you get over 1000, the rage-quitters aren't a problem. I miss those days
Ah, the notorious Viper. You mock me, sir. Your Viper fare quite well against my Gief and I believe you've best me at least once or perhaps more. Your play stye reminds me of a scrawny Indian man... very annoying.
I can only remember once where my Viper beat your Gief, there might have been one other, but I'm sure no more than two times. And about my play style, that's not how I usually play. But when playing against really good Gief players, I have to resort to keeping my distance, and throwing out a lot of ground pounds, a lot of jumping and burning kicks. That's why I usually only play as Viper the first 1 or 2 matches when I get matched up against you, then I just go on to choosing random characters instead of playing a lame Viper. And that scrawny Indian man annoys me just as much.
Actually when matching up against a good Gief, you really don't have much choice but to resort to such strategies. Zoning, spamming, jumping, and teleporting are all good ways to counter Gief, albeit its annoying. I always wondered why you'd switch from Viper when she has the best chance of beating me...
