I don't mind playing against AI to get a feel of stuff. Esp if I don't have wifi. Training room is there to figure out combos and setups. Or just mess around in general

I like arcade...I just thought maybe playing CPUs would be a bad thing( nvm I guess)

I tried playing Cody a little and hes pretty fun, simple and different...

Anyways I was playing Yun and was matched up against a Balrog(boxer) who last time we played he beat me bassicly doing one move(the walk strait move I think?). So he started doing the same thing and I actually put up good fight... Beat him the first round... Ok so next round he does the same thing but he catches me in bad spot and I end up loosing. The last Match he actually tried and I did ok, but just couldn't get in enough damage... He offered a rematch but I didn't take it... I remember previously arter he won he pretty much wouldn't even let me fight him again( he would quit when he saw it was me etc..)

I feel like I've gotten somewhat better... Alot of the people I fight with high win % don't even take me seriously so I get a slight advantage for a little bit... And although I rarely beat anyone that good, the people in my "skill level" I'm generay beating more than not...

However There's still a few matches that I just can't figure out like Vega, daslim, blanka, Cammy... But I figure comparitively I'm still new so I guess it will take awhile if I stick with it..

For Cody unless you play finger breaking style you'll have lots of problems, and even then he's still a very bad character.

About the characters you said you were having problems with, Dhalsim is definetely a good matchup for Yun. I'd even go as far as to say that he's free to him. I don't have enough experience on the rest to tell for sure.

Vega is fine for Yun to handle. Generally rushdown characters have a good time vs charge characters, especially ones without a good reversal.

Blanka and Cammy are pretty bad. Cammy's buttons are all better than yours. You have to be very cautious and can't just dive kick at them randomly. Blanka is bad because electricity will beat out dive kick a lot of your approach options.

Against Dhalsim, feel free to go ham and try to be all over on their wakeup.

Holding Multiple zonk knuckles for cody is a really bad way to play. You cant actually punish ken's DP on block if you are holding Zonk knuckle.

I have found cody mostly useful as vortex. You can stun in 2 combos. And you try and get into a comfortable range against projectile characters, mainly at the max range of their poke where you can zonk or FA them, but they cant break your focus very well.

One thing that i never liked with Cody is the antiair that does not hit crouching opponents, especially when trying to convert a lucky jump in into fadc ultra.

If that's the case, go for ex zonk, fadc.

Sometimes you get lucky because you can just throw out ruffian fadc and catch a backdash or a badly tied button press

Sure, but the problem is that most opponents expect ex zonk fadc when cody has three meters, and comboing into it is an option only when playing with three fingers on screen. Also, it costs three meters. They should've made cr.hp to force standing (or st.hp linkable besides counter hit), so we could confirm from cr.lp.

The ex zonk fadc businnes reminds me of one thing. Some corner specific combos of the challenges (Cody's, Sakura's, Chun's) are actually not corner specific. For Yun's and Makoto's one has to really be on the corner, though. I find it interesting because one game that I like to do when without wifi is to time attack a single character's challenges set.

Another thing that I find amusing is to complete all challenges of a character by extending as much as possible all combos, for example doing Ryu's srk fadc ex hadoken into metsu
in place of the standard fadc.

So you're telling me you have trouble landing a move that has fullbody invincibility?

Do not play Cody with many fingers on screen. Horrible and pretty much worse than playing normally.

Cody's cr.HP does force stand. Unfortunately he doesn't have that move in Volt.

Even in AE, you can't link into s.HP (outside of meaty)

I was playing this Viper on Arena yesterday and I SPDed him in the middle of his Ultra TWICE in the match and even got a Perfect the second round! I wish you could post Arena replays xD

HALLO! :-D Shocked to still see my name floating around in here, as well as seeing a bunch of familiar faces still playing!

I've been on Smash, lately, on my 3DS. During Volt, I kinda got back into SSF4, and Ultra where I had a top 5 Yun when I was playing online; not that online matters that much though, lol. I've kinda fallen out of SF4 for some months, but I may knock some dust off of my iPod and try Volt again.

That's me. I'm on App Invasion and play that game pretty much every day, lol. I can't help but like the nostalgia in it.

For Darth, I have not played Volt in around a year and half or so, so I don't know how I would be now. All I can say is to be good with Yun, you have to keep practicing and stick with him. I lost a LOT of matches before I became good with using him. At first, I wasn't even going to keep using him until I faced some people here. My first big impact in Volt was my Rog and I would run back to him repeatedly until I decided to stick it out with Yun. Yun's low health is a big con and he's basically a glass cannon. When I used to play Volt, a lot, I worked on spacing, what punished what, baiting my opponent, etc. You literally have to know, and sometimes just go with your gut, when to do a dive kick and mix someone up.

The combos that I would do were actually things that, surprisingly, I learned while playing others. I made up those combos in real time while in a battle with someone. Once I found something that connected, I built on it and ended up getting a unique combo with it. The big plus with Yun is that he's such a ridiculous character that he can combo a lot of things together and stun really quickly. You just have to know when to do what move in any situation.

Example: You don't want to divekick towards a charging character like Guile, too often, since he can ultra or flash kick you. If you notice a person flash kicks on a whim, bait him into doing it. Jump back or do a twitchy type motion to get him to jump for it, like a quick crouch to make it look like an attack is coming out.

A lot of it is just you learning what works and what doesn't in all of the matchups. If you see my Zangief replays, you'll see me spacing Gief and doing a standing kick to the tip of Yun's foot. It took me a min to learn about doing that as a way to keep him back and cause players using him to become impatient. You just have to try things and see if they stick.

Lol! How could I forget to mention Tenonez's spacing mastery?! It was so essential to his baiting!

No, I'm telling you that it is impossible to confirm in that move.

    In fact, I don't.

When I wrote cr.HP I meant whatever is down+forward P in volt. That would be nice if it could force stand.

This link I'd take back, as it possibly is a frametrap in volt.

I probably did not explain myself well enough. The situation I have in mind is: as Cody you land on an opponent and proceed to cr.lp a bunch of times to figure out if you have a combo going or not, aka "confirm". I'm old, so my reactions are slow and I figure that my cr.lp connect only after the second one hits. At that point the best meterless followup that I have is the tornado (so nothing that ends in ultra). In order to get to an ultra followup, I must, as you say, use st.P after the jump in but in that case I have to rely on my ability of realizing that I have a combo going.

Differently Ryu can cr.lp x2 into srk fadc, or even force standing with cr.lp cr.hp.

Actually I have no problems landing ultra after criminal upper. Setup safe jump into ultra setup.

Note, Ryu can't even reliably do cr.LP x2 xx SRK, FADC ultra. You're supposed to do EX hadouken, FADC
