Yeah, I don't understand the challenge either.

Are we talking about starting in a corner and seeing how far you can push an opponent?

It's how close you can get your opponent to the corner.

Think bean bag and home run bat

So who's got some good carry combos? I can knock them all the way across the screen with Ryu's s.P>SRK>FADC>Ultra and s.P>Fireball>FADC>EX Hurricane

But are we talking about starting with your character in the corner and comboing the opponent all the way to the other corner?

Hey everyone. I've never ever played a street fighter game or mortal kombat or KOF or any thing like that. (Don't ask me why lol) I was just wondering why this seems to be more popular than KOF since they're both on the appstore. Anyways, just wanted to see what you guys think about them and what might make this one better.

PS: Also don't ask me why I'm interested in asking this now instead of 2 years ago. XD

Good stuff Yadier! You or Dion have any videos of any of these combos? I'd love to see Em in action.

Then for Rog 4 x reps with ex upper and then ending in the armor break punch should do about 75%. I always miss the third rep though.

Similarly I tried Honda with ex hands and again is about 75%.

SF sort of defined the archetype of fighting game, and kept doing it over the various iterations. SF games are always quite balanced (not in the sense of characters balance, rather gameplay balanced), simple and a bit defensive. They are good for a big portion of experienced players (many of which know the archetype by now, so they know the treats) but also beginners.

Other games often excel in bringing, and sometimes exagerating, other features. KOF features longer and technical combos, and a more aggressive gameplay because of the many possible jumps. I think I'd play it more if I understood it better.

Can we categorize the fighting games in three or four different kinds, guys? Something like:

    Defensive: SF
Aggressive and combo oriented: KOF, KI
    Anime: Persona, ...

Street Fighter has the best netcode currently. Only recently did KoF allow cross region playing, but it was too late and no one plays the game.

I also think that Street Fighter is more accessible. Combos in KoF are painfully hard and drive cancel promotes mashing rather than more timing which Street Fighter has.

I also think that Street Fighter had first mover advantage, and it has maintained this, despite a smaller roster

That's the best way to categorize them IMO.

Categorizing them as aggresive/defensive doesn't seem right anyway. I mean, the player is the one who decides that. In KoF-i you can just grab Athena and chuck plasma the whole fight. In Volt you can grab Akuma and go either runaway or completely nuts with dem divekicks.

Slow/fast paced would be better, but I prefer wikipedia's nonetheless.

That was said in lack of better terms, also single characters do not represent the median of a game. However the wiki classification is good, I very much agree. Sadly, nobody added volt. Also, SF5 is already cathegorized under 3D?

SF4 works better if you don't play as aggressively, while KoF is better if you do. SF has always had a bigger audience so it's always going to have more of a playerbase.

Technically Guilty Gear Xrd is a 3D game but it looks and plays like 2D

Yes, same goes for SF4. The wiki puts these in 2.5D but it is a questionable definition.
The question should be: is the 3rd dimension ever used by the game engine (not the graphic one)?

If one wants to be picky: SF4 and GG Xrd are 2D and not 2.5D.

2.5D games could be the SF EX series and soul edge, which use the 3rd dim very mildly (Akuma teleport I think) or rarely for actual movement.

Fully 3D games I'd say involve sidesteps at the very least, so Tekken, soul calibur etc.

2.5D games are games with 2D gameplay and 3D graphics.
