Finally tried rolento. Good pokes as expected and mixup seems fun, just didn't have the time to appreciate him fully as I was constantly beaten by a thawk (which btw got some real buff). A trip to tokio or osaka is really worth to see the crazy urbanization and spend a few nights in a big arcade. If you guys find a cheap last min flight for a weekend I totally suggest it. We have a lot of tips too for restaurants and locations.
Your autoblock is off but you are using sp assist. I could tell by certain moves you did with deejay and a move you did with guile. Tell me I'm wrong
Yep... The EX moves require SP button. Other than that it's not my fault if you can't do fast charges to make things like, I don't know, consecutive Jacknife Maximum with DeeJay.
Hey Shane, why don't you take that eliteist attitude over to AE where everyone is on a level playing field. Seems to me you'll save yourself a lot of headache getting upset over people using features of a game that are there to be used. "It's too bad you play volt, it's like one giant SP button compared to AE"
Question: is SP on only giving an edge in playing or are there thing that can only be done with SP on (like in 3DS SF4)? My working hypothesis has always been no. I am thinking about the speed with which one can charge a sonic boom after another sonic boom, for example.
There are many advantages to using sp assist and yes you can do things with sp assist that you can't do normally.
Elitist? I don't think so. SLRC was one of the only other player I knew that played off/off and I would always tell people about him, now I can't, that's the disappointing part. But hey if you guys want to get butt hurt over it, be my guest! I enjoyed playing SLRC regardless, even if he does use sp assist at least he doesn't play lame and that's all I care about. I said "good games" and I meant it, if you guys get butt hurt about that then maybe it's you that has issues
Well for one, deejay can throw a projectile and then do a double kick. Many charge characters can easily hold back while blocking and still do a special without losing their charge. And let's not also forget the fact that using sp assist means you are likely to never miss a move (especially if there is any type of lag at all). But don't take my word for it, play off/off for 50 matches and see if your game play/skill/win/loss ratio, changes. Now I haven't even started about shoto characters and the many things they can do because of sp assist. Remember those vids posted a few pages back? Those were done by using macros for the controller they were using, none of those combos were possible by normal human input, sp assist in volt is almost the equivalent to that. Some call it cheating, some call it laziness, I call it an advantage. I don't mind that people use it but if they just turtle and counter, it's not fun and it doesn't require a lot of skill, and so when I play high skilled players who play lame (turtle and counter), it upsets me. And I do play AE but it's not convenient like volt is, I can watch tv while playing volt, I can't really do that with AE.
Let me be specific. There is the technique called, I think, pre-charge. My actual question was more like: is 1) the time with which you can throw a projectile and then double kick with DJ having SP on slower than, say, 2) the time that you achieve by pre-charging the double kick right before throwing the projectile? In AE a good Guile nearly keeps up with Ryu's projectile speed by pre-charging, and in volt with SP on even an average player can do the same. It is clear that SP on it is an advantage in practice, but I wanted to know if it is an absolute advantage (meaning for example that it leads to otherwise impossible combos or stuff like that). On top of my head I just figured one Guile's example in volt: flash, fadc, ex flash. This shouldn't be possible with SP off. Concerning Heif's point. Maybe elitarism is not the best word for the present matter. You are free to think what you want on gameplay and playstyle, you made it clear and to be honest we all probably agree for the most part. You might consider one thing though: the way you formulated your original comment seemed to have a accusation tone. Couldn't you just ask politely? Also, I see no reason why he should lie on the matter. Unless you are 100% sure, he might be just really good at executions.
I'm pretty sure you can achieve pre-charge but not at close distance (specifically speaking on DeeJay). Air Slasher -> Double Rolling Sobat/Ultra on wake up is annoying and pretty much impossible to make it a blockstring without SP. DeeJay's combo stated above, Sonic Boom -> EX Sonic Boom on a really close distance, combos with cr.lp -> Sonic Boom loops... Oddly, with any attack before the first Flash Kick that combo is possible manually. This is nothing but a display of ignorance from Shane's side. You would expect that someone who has played without assistants practically since always may know how most of the mechanics work, and that's why I found surprising his statement. Then again, I can't do anything if he or someone who accuses me of either cheating or using SP assist is unable to match that level of execution (which is minimal most of the time, to be honest), or doesn't even bother to go to the training room and try what they consider as "impossible to do manually". It's not like I'm defending my word, but it is true that there's no point on me trying to "keep my reputation" when I barely play this game. It's not like I get paid for claiming things about how I play or something.
I don't see a reason why he would lie and I said as much. He also now has a badge for "easy commander", and "auto defender", I also remember seeing a post where he talked about using sp assist now. If the tone sounded accusatory then I apologize, I was just expressing my sorrow how a top tier player who has always played off/off (for as long as I remember), no longer plays off/off. So it's not like I pulled the claim out of my ass.
Sorry bro, I play the game for fun, I don't spend any time in the practice room, the game isn't that serious for me. Sorry I don't have the knowledge of the game like you do or Harley, I've never claimed I did though. I guess I'm the elitist one here though/s I've never seen you get this defensive, kind of odd for someone who doesn't care about their "reputation".
Of course, I have them since the beginning. You need those achievements to unlock all the achievements, you know. The fact that I have them doesn't mean that I use both assistants, nor that I actually USED the features in battle (I ignored them and turned them off after the 10/15 required matches). Also, I have all the titles, icons, 22+ wins on survival mode with all characters and I recently beat arcade mode in the hardest difficulty with all the roster. I'm just a completionist. I'd like you (if possible) to quote that post where I did that statement. It may be a context issue, if nothing else. Well, nobody's saying you're better or worse player by knowing more or less about how the game mechanics works (at least I don't think that makes you better or worse), but the fact that you are talking with that confidence about me doing something requires you to know how that mechanic works in particular. If you are gonna judge someone, you at least have to know the context of things. In this case, if you don't even try to do manually the things that you found as "sp assist indicators", you will be wrong not only this time, but everytime you see something that you find "impossible" or "sp assist excusive". Seeing how this is somewhat important to you (we all know how you dislike both assistants), I think this may be good to avoid further mistakes, especially with people who hangs around the same place as you. And this may not be limited to this case in particular. I'm just pointing out something that can be considered a misunderstanding. Again, reputation is meaningless but it's better to clarify stuff to avoid throwing past things to the face in the future.
