I noticed that the app would crash when you tried to download replays that were on the main page. But if you looked up others that weren't, you could download those with no problem.

I have a slightly different theory, Harq - it's about the Super sharing a quality it does with console!SF - the "animation freeze".

Basically in the console version, let's say you're about to throw a fireball and your opponent, Diego Umejuarez, reads it and activates his Super to win the round, because as a former Evolución Hispano winner, he refuses to lose to some filthy casual.

Basically, even AFTER you've hit the punch (which should theoretically have sealed your doom), there is... #1frame

That's the Super activation frame, and it's like a vortex, but not the fun Akuma kind - it literally sucks in all the inputs in the game (that's why Supers are written 1+(x) in the f.data).

During this time, you can actually input a move with enough invincibility to dodge or even beat out the super.

Of course, if you choose to backdash, and you're at a very, very precise range, something hilarious could happen - literally the last hit of the 5-hit super will nail you crossup during the recovery and you get knocked down.

Which is why no Ultra seems fast enough to beat the landing "cancel", but when you hit the input for Super, if it's got enough invincibility, whatever they'll doing will catch you in your invince frames and you'll trade frames.

Interestingly, this could possibly be part of the same part of the code that allows for prox.guard, but things with more startup are a tad more suspicious.

    ----

    Btw, tech of my own:

    PROX GUARD IS REAL

    It works.

    I promise.

I've not actually created any sort of setup with it yet.

But basically, really easy way to test it:

Ryu vs. Ryu, training room. What you want to do is record:

Sweep, dash, dash, sweep, dash, dash. You're right next to "you" now, and now you're waking up. Do a meaty sweep and RIGHT after inputting meaty sweep, hit shoryu. This is 0frame (think Fei's chicken wing -> st.hp link). And then hold back and block.

Now, set it to play and restart. What you do is let him get right up in your face, until the second set of dashes is done.

If you tech wakeup and wait for the frame before the sweep to counterhit him, you get nailed by the DP. If you try to ultra in that frame, you get DP'd. If you try anything but EX DP, you get nailed by the DP.

If you do nothing and block, you block a sweep.

    Fought a 2000-something BP Ken.

Played with Sak, then Cammy, got my ass whooped because my Sak's even more ass than my Cammy.

So I played as Viper. Won two games before he ragequit. The first one, he lost to burn kick shenanigans and some seismo stuff. I was still walking into his stuff. Tbh, he wasn't super super flowchart. I think he was surprised when I teched all his grabs because my sak/cammy were really, really ass.

Basically, I started round 3 of game 1 just hitting my seismo feints over and over to get in the groove, then we traded a bunch of hits and I baited him into throwing hadokens, hit him with EX TK and ultra from cross screen. Viper actually turned around, then turned around again from the EXtk lol. And then I shimmied in front of him, took an empty low forward, then when he tried to air tatsu out, I threw him.

    Yay, game to me.

Then I played him again. He adjusted a little, but I took round 1 pretty easily. Round two, I pretty much had lockdown, but then since he focused like, twice, he hit me with ultra a second time, and I died to the second one. Boo. Then I pretty much perfected him round 3, including this fantastic EX seismo that ate up his jump attack and after I hit the delay-burn into h.tk, he pretty much ragequit. I was mad.

I wanted that damn replay SO bad.

Actually, I realised that Landing Frame Cancelling has nothing to do with ultra/super freeze. It's just that some moves in volt are 1f and some are 2f. The point that people seem to miss is that the cancellability of landing a non-empty jump is better than that of an empty jump.

Landing Frame Breakdown on an empty jump
frame 1: can block, cannot do specials/supers/ultras
frame 2: can block, cannot do specials/supers/ultras
frame 3: can block, can do specials/supers/ultras

Landing Frame Breakdown on a non-empty jump
frame 1: cannot block, cannot do specials/supers/ultras
frame 2: cannot block, can do specials/supers/ultras
frame 3: can block, can do specials/supers/ultras

This doesn't really mean much to anymore but for someone like me this means my safe jumps can now beat 2f reversals which they it couldn't previously.

As for your 'tech' I don't quite understand. When I have some more time I will read it a dozen more times... It's not quite clear what you want to record for the dummy

    hi, and thanks.

Well, i play AE on PC, since it came out, ironically not been playing in a while, and ive been on volt ever since it came out also.

My main game is super smash bros melee on the gamecube tho, but SF has been a secondary game for me, as i said, since AE came out. On AE i use /E.Ryu/Ryu/Akuma, and on volt i use Ryu and a bit of Ken and Akuma.

I never knew there was a competitive scene in Volt, i thought it was mostly spammers and wakers but after seeing your matches i saw some great metaplay. Is that ur tag on GC? care to play a bit? i pulled an all nighter today, maybe ill get some shuteye in a little bit.

SSBM RULES!!!! Four more days and the new version of P:M will be released. Although my SSBB version is PAL, I'll try to get a NTSC version just to play it.

haha, nice to know ppl here enjoy the game also, even after 12/13 years after its release. EVO 13 helped the game alot too.

P:M is wicked, really good mod altogether, very stable and everything.... but idk... theres something about it that feels weird... combos arent performed that normally, oponent trajectory after aerial hits is weird sometimes.. maybe thats fixed now, im still on v2.6b.

btw, if your wii has gc ports, u can set up Melee via usb loader now. So u can have the three of them.. (or four if u include smash64)

Your other solution would be to DL a NTSC copy of brawl.. i assume u bought that PAL copy, so that is a point in your favor if somebody starts talking about piracy and stuff.. but yea, it can be done. P:M never was fixed for PAL, idk why.

I never used the USB Loader. For Brawl mods and such I use NeoGamma or some other Disc Loader with Ocarina and the SD with the mods.

PAL and NTSC(-J) are actually very different. PAL users didn't get every feature from the file replacement code because porting it is very difficult, thus the guys at P:M wouldn't only need to remake the mods as PAL-compatible, but also work on a code that allows PAL users to change sounds and such without making the game crash, and that's a lot of work. That alone could be a very good reason, but another reason is that there are way less people with the PAL version than with NTSC(-J).

And yup, of course I bought Brawl. I never liked it that much though. Mods and such are cool (Scott Pilgrim is one of my favorites), but still the gameplay is just too slow and somehow feels like games like WWE where players can't play competitively. That's why the trailer of the last version of P:M got me really excited. Turbo Mode looks like a vs series game, with never ending combos.

Oh cool, so you have a strong background.

I'll be free for matches after Saturday. My GCID is my username.

I have played smash bros. myself, but I've played 64 and brawl more than melee

I really, really suck at Brawl. There's just something about not being able to block that really upsets me. And unlike melee, in which I can press a lot of buttons and win because it's overwhelmingly fast, people can get away with continually spamming moves since I don't know proper punishes :\

Also, I keep trying to input sf commands after hitting a normal by accident. So flying off final destination with falco happens way too often. I blame my time playing on pad :\

If anyone's up right now, I'm done for matches for the next hour or so, afterwards I really have to finish my paper :( I'll try to request you, smashfreak

GC says I can't send you a friend request. My nick is Draco's Wrath.

Actually it's totally the opposite. Blocking is probably the most important thing in Brawl. Unlike Melee, in Brawl almost everything is REALLY unsafe, not only Bowser's Smash Attacks. You don't even need to spam things like MK's Tornado or Lucas' FBs to win, just block/parry and you're good to go. That's why Brawl kinda sucks, everything is too slow there, so it's easy to counter anything, and since there aren't true combos since knockdowns aren't true knockdowns there, you don't even have to fear throws there when blocking. They got REALLY nerfed.

ggs man. its a bit difficult to do mixups on mobile, but volt i feel is a solid game nonetheless. Need those mixups against the more defensive characters of the cast.

Wow ! Singapore? we had a really good connection tho! im really surprised. till next time, btw anyone else wanna spar a bit,? got a bit of free time atm.
