Ahahaha, oh man, is Cap still messing up Klub's name after the entire tourney? That does it. I'm calling him Kaboom from here on out!
Hey guys, just started posting on this forum. Have played with a some guys here, looking forward to more games in the future. I main Abel, use Gief as a secondary, also used to play Sim once in a while. Trying to learn Rog and Cody but not doing very well yet with either. Want to learn Makoto, Sakura, and Yun, but they're all pretty advanced characters. Would love to hear from other players who use these characters. I also pretty much hate shotos, esp Akuma and Sagat because they are terrible for Abel/Gief. Guile, Bison, and Blanka are also on my hate list lol. Jumping Blankas, turtling Guiles, and head stomp Bisons are the lamest styles in the game IMO...thoughts? Btw my ID is bossrabbit...don't ask...wife's account lol...
Welcome, bossrabbit! I remember playing you in friendlies, you always stayed for a bunch of matches and had nice multis. Glad to have you with us here.
Also, since no one's posted it yet: Congratulations to TenOnez on his third straight victory in the Weekly Revolt tournament! This man is one killer machine, and I feel sorry for whatever evil-doer attempts to stand in his way! You can see the full brackets for the matches right here: http://challonge.com/sf4v20130829
So I went and read some of his posts and feel like I should clarify that while these characters and playing styles annoy the hell out of me, I'm ok with the way the characters are designed and the strategies to use vs. characters like Abel and Gief, both of whom have significant match up issues. Btw I'd love to get some tips on how to use Rog, since he's my new character in training. I've been having trouble landing the headbutt into ultra move...especially getting all the hits out of the ultra. Any tips? Also would like some ideas for Abel's wake up options vs an ambiguous throw/neutral jump...I can't roll out because it gets grabbed by the throw, but if I try to tech the throw, I get punished by a neutral jump and usually have to eat a ton of damage.
With Rog, you need to learn to (EX) headbutt and maintain charge, so that means ending the motion with up back+p/sp. Practice in training room to get the timing. There are 5 parts of Balrog's ultra and the first 4 can be controlled with either k or sp. To maximise damage, you want to hold k/sp for the 1st, 3rd and 4th parts. This is for a normal height headbutt. If they get too high, the timing changes quite drastically. As for wakeup with abel, it is his weakness but you have a few options: EX Roll is fully invincible but not immune to throws. Backdash grants some invincibility frames and is a good option when not cornered. EX Change of Direction is a very underrated and underused wakeup option. The armour helps they aim for a meaty jump in.
Guys sorry about the crappy stream last night. Ima test that free streaming software and see if its better. You guys can watch the stream here (it does jump at some points and its missing the grand finals cause my stream crashed sorry about that) http://www.twitch.tv/captyadierpr/b/453564491 Last 2 games from grand finals are here (missing first 2 and 1/3 of the third game) http://www.twitch.tv/captyadierpr/b/453586488
If you wanna see how to play Rog properly, look up TenOnez replays on BN. He is the best Rog and best Volt player in the game. Trust me , I'm not exaggerating as most of the members here will agree.
Really? all this time i thought it was Kaboom. I guess i was reading chatzy wrong when they said Klub and not KB. Dumb Me LOL
So after 2 months (8 weeks) of having successful thursday nights (some more than others), with 25 players who have participated so far, here you can see the progress of the tournaments so far: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmrEZLoTHXYydEdZNmlQdUpGUkF3Vmc4OFdRQkQ2Wmc#gid=0 Our Champions: (He has not lost a single Match yet) Sitting at the top PR Balrog in disguise, undefeated and the undisputed 3 times in a row champion TenOnez!!!!!! Our Champion Sakura, psxsquall taking a break letting the champions get comfortable for a comeback. And 5th but not least The Underdog, Newcomer, and i have to say Awsome Cammy player, popsrock.
Random Theory: If you are doing f+p or b+p and they are in hitstun at the start of the move, your f+p/b+p move will come out instead of a throw. It won't necessarily combo
I wanna say "Duh," but I probably shouldn't assume that everyone knows this yet. Throws in volt are practically an option select. If the opponent can be thrown, throw will come out. If the opponent cannot be thrown (out of range, jumped, in hit stun), then punch will come out. Only on a few VERY RARE occasions will the throw animation play out instead of punch. I like using this as a meaty option for Vega. When I do a walk-up throw, and the opponent backdashes, my st.hp will come out and the second hit will still connect against many characters. I also played a guile player whose strategy relied heavily on this. He would always go for sonic boom > walk-up throw. If the opponent blocked it, throw would come out. If the opponent got hit or tried to FADC-backdash the sonic boom, guile's backhand would come out and connect. I forget who the player was, it was someone from Line.
Not only in hitstun, but also at wakeup, etc. Just like chord said you'll get a throw when you can throw the opponent. In SFxT they made it a worse OS by making f+P/b+P a throw when the opponent is waking up if you're close, which destroys most setups for meaty overheads and such. It's a cool system, but of course it has some problems, like getting the f+P/b+P move if the opponent jumps just one frame earlier. It can't get better than the current system. In fact it was also used for TvC as f+H/b+H.
