I just picked up this game, I'm trying to main honda, and i cant manage to complete the "challenges" in challenge mode, since "charging" sumo headbutt and sumo smash takes much too long to complete the combos...it takes like two whole seconds to charge it to where i can use it nor can i do the combos with guile...charge moves make you drop combos...the ones where you have to combo into sonic boom are impossible
I've found this to be a guessing game. Tiger Knee beats all of dhalsim's moves, aside from noogie. Dhalsim's noogie beats Tiger Knee. Tiger Uppercut beats Dhalsim's noogie. It's a 50-50 coin-toss. Invariably it ends up being Knee/Block, Knee/Block, Knee/Noogie-Attempt/Uppercut/Ragequit.
Using Honda, assuming you're on the left side: Get up close to your opponent, practically overlapping. Hold/charge left+down for 2-3 seconds. Hit kick while still holding left+down. While that kick happens, hit SP + left (roll/shift your thumb from left+down to left, without letting go of the screen).
Welcome to one of the things that makes SF4 so friggin' awesome. :-/ Sometimes all you can do is just block and punish and hope they mess up. It's one of the things that truly frustrates me about this game. And Mooken, stop giving the Honda players tips. I don't need more of them to lose to. ;-P
honda players? I have more trouble with akuma fireball spammers than anything else (at least when i played ken)...those guys are the most annoying players to ever grace the game
I hate to say it but I really have little to no respect for Honda players. He's such a scrubby overpowered character. I play people online all the time who win with the most lame braindead strategies that are hard to get around just because of how powerful he is. That and there aren't really enough people playing him that you can really practice the matchup a lot. I played a guy today in about 5 matches of dumb shit which he won about 4. So I'm getting better I guess.
The way i see it, characters i dont see very often arnt very scrubby, i actually find most of the characters in this game to be pretty well balanced, but what do i know, ive only had this game for three days
I've come to accept that I'll never be able to complete the challenges for most characters. That's just not my styles of play and I can never seem to get the timing just right. Then I get annoyed and go back to online play. I did finish all of Dhalsim's challenges though. As for Honda, I just checked and I couldn't get past #5. It's just not fun and it's not a move I'd use in actual play. I certainly learned a lot from doing some of the more basic ones, but I don't have much use for the ridiculously complicated combos, even if it would be cool to pull them off against a live player.
I think Honda ends up having a lot of trouble against a good number of characters. Same way that a lot of characters have trouble against Abel. Honda's headbutt has a tremendous amount of priority, and he can deal out a ton of damage. And you can always change characters for a Honda mirror match, or pick a character who has a good match-up -- Feilong, Sagat, Bison, not-Makoto.
Work on timing your jumps, and figuring out your opponent's fireballing patterns. It's like fighting a boss battle, most players have some sort of pattern or tendency or timing. Ken's speed with his toward+kick lets him close gaps really quick, and his foot speed is decent. Akuma can't handle trading damage, so he'll like to teleport away. Even if you throw a fireball at him while he's air-fireballing you, akuma will end up taking more damage landing on your fireball. So yea, work on timing your fireballs so that they go under akuma's fireballs, so that akuma lands on it.
@ All the posts regarding tiger knee, it can be punished if both the hits are blocked, but only with a quick move (i tornado throw with abel, you could probably do a normal throw or something like a shoryuken). And what do you find hard about honda, hes pretty easy for me....
Just wondering, from someone who doesnt play Abel, what matchups do you think are heavily in his favour?
Honda players can just scrub it up and win. They can spam specials and throws and it works. Like Hundred Hand Slap. The chip damage on the EX version of that move is ridiculous. Honda's just a ridiculous character all the way around. I'm getting better against him but I think he's even more overpowered than Gief or Akuma because at least they have big drawbacks.
Don't worry about that. Just hold back and press sp. And when you see em jump, hold down and press sp. Guaranteed win unless the other guy is gonna spam fireballs.
Just played someone named GAPNAVY with a 239-0 record with 3,697 BPs. He was horrible. Won both rounds easily and he ragequit. I'm pretty sure people have found a work-around for the penalty.
Thanks bro. That is actually the primary reason I love playing her so much. People don't always know what to expect from her since she isn't more commonly used. I don't even know why more people don't use her. She has a lot of tools, she can attack at different ranges, she can counter fireball characters, etc... She is actually pretty awesome once you learn to use her properly.
