I don't think StMK will hit crouching opponents (in the specific combo you have mentioned), it is the better option to go for when your opponent is standing but I think it whiffs on most crouching characters basing on experience but haven't tested
Thanks! Upon further inspection, it seems that against a crouching hitbox, the cr mp reaches further than the st k
My tier list: S Tier: Sagat, Zangief, Ryu, Viper, Bison, Guile A Tier: Cammy, Akuma, Blanka, Ken Bottom tier: Cody, Makoto, Chun, Abel, Sakura Mid tier: Everyone else
Yep that sounds pretty similar to what is was a year ago. Why is Gief so high though? Seems like he has a few terrible matchups.
Easy comebacks. Guile v Gief is like 6.5-3.5 and Akuma v Gief is probably 8.5-1.5. Not only does he do crazy damage, but one button SPD, lag favours him (suddenly everything is a frame trap) and whenever you play Cyrus, you want to cry afterwards. The number of times I've lost to giefs with Guile just because I ate a random ultra at the end.....
Definitely agree on the lag favouring him, as well as the 1 touch spd/super/ultra. I still disagree on him being so high though to be honest. Dhalsim and Sagat aren't great matchups either, and the only free mathchups he has are Abel and maybe makoto/sakura.
Yup, he didn't play like most Honda players, you know, walking backwards and using headbutt as anti air. Air jump and HHS surprised me, but after beating him with Ultra as reversal he RQ u.u Well, it seems that there is a setup where Axe Kick beats Lariat, or at least I managed to counter most of them in that replay. I always hated grapplers. Gief and Abel here, and Hugo in SFxTK.
Sagat is his worst matchup, but I've seen Beserk_2nd rip through dhalsims like butter with his gief. I guess, based on those tiers, Bison/Guile/gief would be on the bubble between S/A. Cyrus still plays and everytime I play him, I am reminded about how unfair gief is. Also Snooper, since you've been away, squall made this: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/aug/30/completely-ridiculous-combos-street-fighter-4-volt-ios/ DROQQA found the makoto infinite (which has been fixed now) and hieu found out about unblockable EX Seismo from viper...
Lariat has a funny hitbox. It hit low right on startup. It will even hit a sliding blanka when it starts up. After that it has projectile and some lower body invinc. Chun's cr rh can't actually hit a gief in lariat... After that, due to the spinning arms you might beat out the arms or you might trade.
Wow, what was the infinite and how does the unblockable work? Wish I had've been here for the infinite, would've been good fun. Any balance updates? Edit: Just saw the infinite in the video
obviously you need to time Lariat at the right time for the invinc. What really annoys me is that even after the invinc frame it still trades with most attacks like he can just Lariat to get out of mostly everything! never liked grapplers too, but I don't think Abel is too difficult for Makoto.
Makoto could do FA 2 infinitely, on all chars. EX Seismo is unblockable at exactly max range. Set CPU to autoblock and try. If you can't get the spacing, do a throw at midscreen, then do a st k. Walk forward ever so slightly and that's your distance. psxsquall also put up some other videos showing weaknesses of autoblock. My work has been in safe jumps and combo work. I've optimised Cody combos and pretty much Guile's too. In addition, there's a way to save replays even if someone RQs. After the fight, go download the latest replay someone has uploaded (replay rally). Then immediately delete it and it will create a replay of your last match. If someone dropped in the last round, it will be a duplicate of the previous round. I guess, those are the big discoveries found since then. We've had some minor updates which removed Makoto's infinite and changed some very minor things (one chun li combo doesn't work anymore). But I think that's pretty much all you have missed...
Damn, I was hoping for another balance overhaul like they did a while back. But that didn't really change much apart from killing honda, nerfing tiger knee recovery, nerfing guiles sweep, reducing uppercut invincibility on the shotos and cammy and some minor stuff (like nerfing deejay, wtf?) iirc. It's a shame that volt has pretty much been abandoned by capcom. I reckon adon and seth would be extremely well suited to volt and would really shake the game up Thanks for the filling in!
Zanku beats Lariat But yeah, most attacks have really strange hitbox. I still remember when Capt used Chun's Ultra, I avoided it and rushed to do a grab and BLAM, got defeated by Chun's ass! xD With Akuma I just try to jump, and Lariat beats jumps at wake up, and SRK without enough meter to FADC is too damn risky due to his Ultra and commands grabs, and I won't talk about Body Press. It's like Makoto's almost useless Fukiage is one of the few tools that can deal with Body Press at wake up without problems. So, sometimes I just teleport during the whole match and play like a boss from Dodonpachi (lol, I still remember that joke xD). It's boring and stupid, but vs broken characters I don't mind playing that way that much. I'm not too good at guessing when Abel's going to do Marseilles Roll, so I just can't do anything
I just found a really weird glitch, I'll try and do my best to explain how to recreate it. In training mode, pick Sakura, set dummy to Viper. Record an EX seismo so that viper keeps doing it / will do it on wakeup. Get viper in the corner and hit her w/ the Sakura BnB of EX tatsu, otoshi (2 hits). Backdash on landing, then charge full fireball and then sweep. Now just keep repeating fireball + sweep over and over again. Eventually it should hit just right so that Viper is hit by both the fireball and sweep, but is not knocked down. Weird.
