Talking about the ability to land fancy combos... I m starting to miss Felix the kid... He had some really stylish resets that are jaw dropping!
Oh, I see. So for example after Viper's Seismic Hammer, if you jump cancel and then use an air attack, that would be a reset, right?
That's right. Though the most useful resets usually keep your character on the ground, like Akuma tatsu > cr.lp. This allows you plenty of time to set up your next move while the opponent is flipping, you can walk up and throw, attack, jump, or block and bait out their counter attack. Though I have seen hieu pull off some pretty epic air resets with his Yun, so air resets do have their place. By the way Varo, just in case it wasn't clear: it's called a reset because it resets the damage scaling back to 100%. So if you're doing a long combo and the damage is only at 25%, you can do a reset, and then if your next move hits it will be back up to 100% again. You're cutting your initial combo off before it's done in the hopes that you can follow it with another full combo.
Now THAT is useful knowledge! Great call hieu, I had no idea! I assumed that Vega's only FADC or Ex FA opportunity was after normal roll, which is pretty useless. It never occurred to me to try the ex (because I'm retarded.) I probably won't ever use it in battle though, considering the only time I ever use ex roll is to go through Ryu's ultra, but the knowledge itself is invaluable. Thanks buddy!
No probs dude I was dead anyways! Speaking of FeliX, where is that little git? Haven't heard from him in forever!! He just disappeared
I wish I could do some more Akuma mirrors with him. When connection was good we were just doing 1f links all day on each other
1f links!? Snore!! I'm all about dem 0 frame links!! Haha! Oh yeah Gouki, Oni and E.Ryu's super is 0F isn't it?
yea, they are like Gief's Ultra and Super... if you are up-close and did not jump/DP before they do the move, they will always catch you no matter how hard u mash your DP after reacting to those super. Which is even more scary since Akuma can cancel a normal into super like overhead (bait for high block) then immediately raging demon!
I come from SFxTK, and the only thing similar to a reset there is delaying an overhead combo and praying for a low block. Right now I rather keep training than trying advanced techniques.
I don't think anyone is 7-3 over Sagat. A 7-3 advantage is huge and there are very few in Volt IMO. I hesitate to even give Cammy a 7-3 advantage over Sim (although in the end I may concede it). I don't claim to know the matchup better than you, but 7-3 is huge IMO. I don't think the top Sagats are at that much of a disadvantage to any character (assuming the same skill level).
You're right about tiger shots, but Sagat should avoid FB contests in this matchup. He has other moves that beat out Sim's long punches clean, and focusing the punches leaves Sim needing to fight from closer. Tiger shots are good sporadically for chip damage so Sim has to go on the offensive, and to punish teleports, but not much more. If Sagat can force Sim to be the aggressor, he has more than enough tools to counter effectively. I tend to think Sim has a slight advantage sometimes, but it's not fair to base it on all these scrubby Sagats who simply don't know how to block properly.
I actually think those resets done in the air are more useful. Check out this cross up it is so ambiguous no1 would have seen it coming!!! DAT DAMAGE TOO!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqQDLADuBxE&feature=g-vrec
Didn't I post this on DD a while back? I knew what was going to happen before seeing the stage and costumes! Very memorable moment there! =P
Saw someone ask for Makoto matchup ratings, here they are IMO: 3-7: Guile, Zangief, Honda 4-6: Ryu, Balrog, Akuma, DeeJay, Viper, Sagat 5-5: Ken, Bison, Sakura, Blanka, Yun, Abel, Cammy, Fei Long 6-4: Cody, Chun Li 6.5 - 3.5: Dhalsim 7-3: Vega Makoto just eats up Vega. He cannot go to the air at all because she can fukiage on reaction, or focus + dash into karakusa. Both lead to MASSIVE damage and follow up pressure. It's so easy for Makoto to get him in the corner and just rape Vega. He's also got low stun, and Makoto may look like a little boy, but she hits like a grown man. Honda and Gief are really bad matchups because they force Makoto to keep them out, which she doesn't want to do. She's a rushdown character, her defense is really poor. Same with Guile. Most Guiles play the matchup wrong and just run away and sonic boom. If Guile rushes her down and puts her in the sweep/grab vortex, she's donezo.
GGs Hieu that was some intense set I didn't know you can even play Bison so well!? Those cross up psycho crushers god damn thought Psxsquall is the only Bison who does that!!! definitely enjoyed playing against your Makoto fearlessly dashing and jumping in hope u think that my Yun has improved since last time we played
LOL especially after blocking the dive kick!!! played Polly's Guile tonight with Yun too... my gosh those neutral jumps + fireball really can just lame Yun out effectively... wonder if u know how to fight the Yun vs Guile match up?
I think Yoga Spear can be blocked crouching, so while it can cross up, people can still block if they're crouched? I went into training and it looked like the computer never had to stand up to block the spears? I might be wrong though. I set computer to Crouch and Block All -- instant jump fierce forces computer to standing-block, but the spear doesn't. It's like Viper's burn kick, cammy's dive kick, akuma's demon flip dive kick, and yun's dive kick (but not akuma's normal jump dive kick). All can be blocked crouching, as far as I know.
