She's low tier because she simply doesn't have the options to be able to deal with a good zoner. Zoning is one of the most effective styles of play in SF4, and the evidence of this is the top of the tierlist. She has utterly no hope of defeating a good Ryu, Sagat, Guile, or Akuma player because of the effort she has to expend JUST TO BE ABLE TO GET NEAR THEM!

All she really has is EX Tsurugi, but you need meter to do that, and if you can't hit them, meter is harder to build. So not only is a good zoner able to keep her away from them, they're also able to keep her from building meter effectively, which in turn, prevents her from being able to get in. Vicious circle.

But even if you ARE able to get in, if you aren't able to completely overwhelm them, then you're back to square one if/when they get away.

In a way, she's kind of a shitty version of Abel, except she doesn't have the mobility Abel does with Marseilles Roll, or the basically unblockable Change Of Direction. She's a semi-grappler, but without the necessary tools to be able to make that style effective.

One of the things that sets a character's rank on a tier list is not only their options, but the options the rest of the cast has. And unfortunately in SF4, the rest of the cast has her outgunned.

    Sorry for the long post.

SF4 caters to the Shoto play style. If you think about it, most of the best characters in thr game have some form of SRK>FADC>Ultra, and they're the best because those combos account for some of the biggest damage in the game.

Man, all this talk of makoto being low tier makes me feel embarrassed, she's one of Vega's hardest matchups. Probably because he has no projectiles and has to go toe to toe with her.

Vega has really random matchups. Makoto is pretty awkward as is gief and blanka.

FINIX and the top jap Vegas do like to get their hands dirty though and can be quite fearsome

This game really needed a better implemented way of showing friend and fight requests. Trying to fight a Sagat with Yun and get DC'd because someone wants to tell me something when I tap super. Also, the message takes up about half of the screen.

To add to that, two people DC'd on me after the fight was over. That mindset is probably why we're getting these crappy, overly casual fighting games now where there has to be some extreme comeback mechanic. People just can't take a loss anymore and tend to belittle someone instead of taking the loss and learning from it... Which is why they keep getting bodied. I didn't get any hate messages, but that's the usual cycle.

Get Bodied -> DC -> Hatemail -> Play -> Get Bodied -> DC -> Hatemail (Repeat if necessary)

I had the same problem about the friend request, I think it should be a slide instead of tap to accept the request. Also just ignore DC from random players, what confused me is even well known player DC'd, and he's even on my friend list.

Anyone fought a player name: dew23 before? Really good Ryu and Akuma player, based on the GC name I think he's Korean? App, your 21st account?;)

hahaha. No no. My Volt skills are horrible at this point. Even Harle's Cody would body me :D

I've switched to SFxT and I still get a ton of hate mail there :D SFxT has even a higher learning curves for noobs so most of the better players have 90%+ winning rates...hahahaha. Capcom seriously needs to release 2013 AE using the newer 3D engine.

I played SFxT like 3 times and didn't like it at all. You play AE on ps3 or xbox?

I now have AE on my computer but I suck using a controller. I have a fight stick but I haven't set it up yet but it's loud so I don't like using it at night.

How do you hit Guile when he's zoning you out effectively using not just Booms but his normals?

You just have to mind f**k Guile to win. Using Cammy, you absorb some booms, jump others and once in awhile, try to jump over and get to guile. The weakness of guile is if he keep going backward and booming, you can corner him and he has issues in the corner. HE's still an A tier character and against characters without projectiles, he has a lot of advantages. Makoto, Abel, Rog, Cammy are free for Guile many times.

Tsk tsk he could've bodied Daigo all the while thinking it was you. After all Daigo's name wins him half the battle. ;)

In other news we got the rage mail!!

A salty Cammy player who is displeased with my new name, I dont know why. :D

That last one is a notorious shit talker. He's the same guy that tenonez posted about a few pages back. When I run into him I just quit at the versus, I do that now against all RQers if they quit on me twice.

Fei and Abel have better options than Mak does. Fei's Rekkas and Flame kick alone beat almost anything she has, regardless of his difficulty getting in. He also has a really long range FA which can help close the gap against zoners.

Abel's mobility can help, but his EX Tornado throw and decently ranged normals are assets. Mak has nothing as good as what these two have.

Sagat's good normals, FADC Ultra, and good zoning tools are why he's top tier. It's a given that he's going to be a bad matchup for non-projectile characters (and even characters who HAVE projectiles.) But just because Fei and Abel have tough matches against him doesn't mean they're low tier.

Sakura has an FADC Ultra, that automatically makes her better than Mak, haha! Abel's a much better character than people give him credit for, still not top tier but a solid mid-tier anyway because of the weaknesses he has that you mentioned. I'd also add EX Tornado throw to his list of assets too. But again, what does Makoto have that's BETTER than what Fei or Abel have? How can she win a match against Sagat other than trying to get in, and once she's there, throwing out a bunch of pokes and hoping he doesn't know how to block?

I'm not sure you understand how tierlists are created. It's all about the options a character has. The options they have dictate how each matchup is going to go. And I'm telling you that Fei and Abel, while not top tier, are still better than Makoto because they flat out have better options. Makoto in this game is like Sagat would be in Third Strike: Ineffective. The fact that players like Nashberry can be as good as they are with a crap character like Makoto is testament to how good they truly are as players.
