Anyone tested out landing Ultra, Super with Yun? (Hieu pointed out you can land ultra, shoulder xx super in the corner if your ultra was grounded. But I'm talking about ultra, super, lunge punch) I was just testing it and I wonder if anyone *cough* felix *cough* found anything
Yep. As Hieu said, you can connect an ultra into a super in the corner if you shoulder in-between. You can ultra near the end of a super, if needed, but you have to activate it with a tiny bit of blue bar left for it to connect. That's helped me win some rounds, and even matches, before because it adds just enough damage to KO. I haven't been successful with raw ultra into raw super without something in between. I believe you can connect it in AE with Yun. I haven't played that in a while though, but I believe you can if you're fast enough. I think you can connect it with a cr. MP.
Felix has mentioned he likes to do ultra at the beginning of super and followup with palm x2. Ultra, super is possible in AE. I have seen raw ultra, raw super, lunge punch connect And I found a way to do it in volt. It's not pretty but it's possible midscreen under certain conditions. It'd pretty much be a way to style your opponent in the rare chance you land it. The setup: Ultra anywhere but miss some hits (the first one is easiest). This is most easily achieved as an aa or if you start it early when they are knocked down. Then mash super and lunge punch after. In the corner you can land a st p to start. The only time to do this I can think of is it you stun them and want to style them, as you can have them stand up in the middle of the ultra. I haven't found a way yet to combo into ultra like this
We'll have to take this to Skype. xD I'll actually have quite a bit of time starting next week (and I'll be in the Eastern time zone so I won't be as far ahead of you.
Like I said before, she's an offensive character in a game where defense rules. To add to what Harlequin said, part of the reason she works well in Third Strike is because she can parry projectiles. But any character in this game with a half decent projectile is going to be a bad matchup for her, and getting in is much more difficult here because there's no way for her to effectively deal with projectiles without using meter. She gets zoned out too easily. If she had a better Focus Attack that might help too, but she doesn't. Her play style isn't a very effective one in SF4 and that's why she's low tier among other things.
Man I would love to play that guy. I haven't met a better Vega than me yet, though that's not really saying much, considering how few Vega players there are.
Ha, I'm pretty sure the Vega in this vid is me. Rog kept doing overhead and I was sitting there like "There's no way he'd just keep doing the same thing over and over, that'd be retarded! I'll just let him have his fun until he starts being serious." But then guess who looks like the fool at the end. Hint: me, it was me. The fool is me.
FA lvl 2/3 (a few steps away), (dash back), ultra, super, lunge punch works. Learn the spacing such that the first few hits of ultra miss so you can land the super, lunge punch. Works from midscreen! I hope someone who has a much better Yun than me can record this!
Very detailed Harlequin, but I fail to see where her weaknesses or how her weaknesses make her bottom tier. You've shown me that Makoto V. Guile is a terrible matchup. I agree with you, but then sgain Guile is a terrible matchup up for half the cast. While those stats you posted are Valid, they're not reliable. How many Makoto players actually are there to make up those stats? How many of those Makoto players actually main the character? How many matches actually contribute to those stats? In a game where Sagat, Bison, Gief, Guile and Akuma run dominant in terms of tier list and popularity, wouldn't it be fair to say those Makoto players most likely ran into those bad matchups more than Half the time, as well as explain why she's so low in the win stats? If you noticed the bottom five characters are also the same 5 that get played the least. Im not saying Makoto is the best, but she most certainly has the tools and the capability of being a solid Mid-Tier character, almost everything from her AE console version remains intact in Volt. So there should be no reason why a solid mid tier character in one setting is now considered low tier in another with hardly any differences to show for it.
Her weaknesses are -lack of a good uppercut/reversal. Fukiage has an awkward hitbox, both vertically and horizontally. -lack of safe chip options to finish out matches -Awkward maneuverability; you can't always dash -lack of ways to combo in ultra However, she has the tools to compete with the average tier characters, but the amount of effort you need to put into her to do well is staggering. She suffers from the same problem Yun and Sakura do. You put in so much effort for little result, when you could easily play a cookie cutter C Viper (high execution but higher reward) and blow people up. Like Cody, she has to learn a lot of 'tips and tricks' to win because you can't do simple brainless stuff like cr mk xx hadouken, or srk, FADC, ultra. tl;dr: she has the tools to compete but the effort expended gives marginal benefit. Re guile: he is 5.5-6 vs the average tiers, 8-2 vs bottom tiers and 4.5-5 vs top tiers
Yes I agree Effective zoning characters are a problem for her but I dont see that as a reason for her to be low tier. As a Fei/Abel player I too have this exact same problem but I still consider Fei mid tier. I can even honestly say without any hesitation that Abel is at the pit bottom of the tier list in thid game. He lackss all of the decent pokes snd pressure tools he has in AE aside from Step Kick, No reliable anti-air, and no way of dealing with zoning. I dont want type another long post so I'll stop here.
Here we are in complete agreement, the effort to really become a competitive Makoto as the like of Nashberry is ridiculous but I see where we are at an impasse, Im not including Effort as factor in basing my tiers lists. Just simply the tools and the potential the character has.
I think effort/execution also limits how far a character can go. I've pushed my guile really far since I've joined TA and it has paid off well. I have also tried pushing cody but he is severely limited in how well he can do. Sure, I can give some people a run for their money with Cody, but there are also some matchups where Cody gets humiliated. I guess I'm trying to say that I relate the effort needed to play the character well as a ceiling on how well the character can ultimately perform. I think I can safely say I have explored Cody and Guile more than anyone else, but with makoto I still get surprised by random small finds
I can understand what harle is saying. Put it this way, zangeif is a top tier character in volt because it doesnt take much to play him and the same can be said about akuma. However, if I were to rank them as if they were played by equally qualified players the tiers would be different. Having said that I think Harle's point is that in order to get characters on a equal playing field it would require more work for some characters versus others, makoto being one of them. Based on that info, it's why he ranks makoto so low.
GGs Wediafom, crazy set. As I much as I hate Cammy I like playing yours, Not so much stupidly braindead random Ultras or Cannon Spikes like most other Cammy's I know(YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!) Haha.
Good games D4! Haven't been playing as much as I would have liked. I am rusty, need to play more i guess. Always a pleasure playing you Also, good games Nash and Drogba!
Sometimes, characters are sooooo hopeless. Like Chun-Li. And also, sometimes, it's wayyy too hopeless. I saw a vid of Daigo lose to this guy's Ibuki. He then rematched, and spent the entire time doing crouching mk's to hadokens, and AAing everything else. Ibuki lost. A lot. As in like 2/17. Some characters just have no hope.
It also depends on how a character does in lag though. Lag, boom, eat an ultra. All that time you spent to think of a new mixup, gone. Plus the fact that people who don't even need to use autoblock use it, it renders directional mixups useless. Invincibility and throw mixups are easier. Ryu and Ken have those. So does Zangief. I swear, all the characters in the best tier have a proper, all invincible uppercut. It's just such a game changer. It's like a mini ultra.
