Agreed. If there were online multiplayer, I'd re-learn KoF, but if not, why bother? Btw, Snooper, are you and D4RKSH4DowZ going to play your tournament matchup? EDIT: @NullRoar, when are WE going to play? In a non-laggy-ass match that is?
Around 12:30 my time I'm down (my time is Munich / Berlin time now that I'm back from the states). Alternatively, I can be on at like midnight in Munich (sounds like a chick flick..."Midnight in Munich"). Truth be told though, I'm really kinda disheartened. I lost like 13 or something in a row to fffan at one point, but I never really felt like any of those games was out of my reach. This time I simply got rocked. The worst part was I felt myself choking up normally perfect combos. Gaaah. EDIT: as for the people asking about the sagat strat, this guy's spacing is PERFECT. I mean simply PERFECT. I need more practice.
Although on the whole I prefer Street Fighter to The King of Fighters I'd absolutely recommend it - it's a different type of beat-'em-up to Street Fighter, so it makes a great complement with it's 3 vs 3 team mechanic and faster, more offensive, play. It's hand-drawn sprites look better, and the virtual joystick is definitely more responsive. The thing with KoF is not to think of it as SNK's version of Street Fighter - it's a team battle game with characters from multiple videogame series optimised for fast-paced, flashy, gameplay. It's SNK's version of the Vs series. It's got more stuff to do offline, definitely, and the AI has been tweaked in the update (thankfully - it was a terrible projectile spammer at higher levels, and I managed to get to 71 wins in Survival with a character I don't play by simply using one move over and over). It probably won't help your SF game (it plays very differently - there are many more ways to get close fast, cancelling into special moves takes meter, and many other differences) but it definitely won't hurt it. It may even give you a new aggressive twist to your SF game - look at Poongko!
Yea I think it's still 50/50 going against you NullRoar. It's just that one extra mistake that we make that comes back and haunts us when it comes down to the wire. I don't remember having that much win streak on you... was that really early on? I was about to play against shoryutofu today, but he disconnected on the character matchup screen. Haven't seen him since. I don't think he's happy when I lower his Zangief W/L haha.
I was in the US and I remember it being late at night my time or so and we did around 15 matches. Humbling I don't really have a "main" character yet (I'm too fickle to play as one for any given period of time), but Blanka is taking over simply because of his unpredictability and the fun I get from punishing spammy shotos with him. I just wish his ultra wasn't so damn impossible to "fully" land on people. For every 10 times the ultra kills someone, 9 of them are simply through chip damage. Shouldn't lag too much now that I'm back in the states - my wifi is MUCH better here. [EDIT: I mean at my apartment, not in my office]
So i bought and played KoF. Its alright, but ill be sticking to SFIV. Its so frantic and i have no idea whats going on most of the time. It was the same with SFIV for me at the start but i cant be bothered putting time into learning the ins and outs of a game i probably wont play as much as SFIV. One of the characters (joe i think) is a complete rip of Sagat/Adon. Maybe its the other way around, but this guys kick looks exactly like sagats focus attack, he has a projectile, he has a step kick, he has a jaguar kick type move, an uppercut, a tiger knee type move, and wears bandages around his arms and feet. Its like hes the 3rd muay thai fighter
I used to play KOF alot in the arcades back in the 90s when I'm still studying. Those were the days of KOF 95 or SF Alpha/Alpha 2. The Muay Thai fighter is Joe Higashi and his with Terry and Andy Bogards. KOF is more of a combo game where it's possible to chain things like jump kick, crouch kick, fwd combo attk then special. Not as ridiculous as Marvel Super Heros (did I recall the name correctly?) with air juggles into 99 hits. I only wish someone can port over SAMURAI SHODOWN 2 which I think was one of the BEST fighting game. Interesting char, not too much fanciful combos, but requires a lot of skill to master. Can try it on on emulators nowadays. Damn, 4850 Points and not one single new TITLE. It's becoming s nightmare. Short of 7-8.
My advice? Start the slots, then walk away and pour yourself a drink, calmly. Turn on the TV. Push the button the first time someone says "THE."
The whole Title Mechanic random thingy etc, is just stupid, i mean some people played almost 60 hours and they still don`t have all of them! what can i expect?
well i dont know why, but vs grueling Bison i won in the first attempt playing with Bison. but the most easy one is probably Sagat, with Bison it's like just spam head stomps in the right moments, that's all.
Hadn't played this online for a good while, so had a bash today. Disconnect. Lag. Disconnect. Disconnect. Lag. Disconnect. Lag. Just awful (and not just 'cause of my ring-rusty performances ). It's basically unplayable. Combos, blocking, even moving, are completely unreliable. And getting a home console recently has reminded me just how much Ryu is handicapped by only having one fireball. It's a shame as I loved this game so much at one point, but the online game has been destroyed since the last update. I no longer even care about getting to 1,500 BP - it's just too painful to try. Fingers crossed the next update sorts out the online mode, otherwise I don't think I'll bother playing it online (and there's no real urge to play offline, either, apart from the new character's challenges). Which would have been unthinkable on it's release. Ho-hum.
Invite sent. I actually had two matchups with you about a month ago. I wasn't playing my best but I'm not sure my best at that time would have been enough to overcome your Bison. I'm still not sure, since I've always had trouble with Bison when playing Dhalsim, but I've finally started beating some decent ones. Your Bison is a different story though. In ranked matches I generally use Dhalsim and Guile, but occasionally Honda, Bison, Deejay or Cammy depending on the level of my opponent. In Friendlies I will use random but fall back on my mains or players I want to practice with if I start losing. My GC ID is Jibba Junior. If anyone's interested in some friendlies, shoot me an invite. I'd love to get feedback on how to improve my Dhalsim or Guile. I am typically on around 8:00 pm EST on weekdays and random times on weekends. Anyway, I got back on last night after those two rough ragequits and was matched up against a mediocre Bison. He had ~1,000 BPs so it actually took two matches, but I finally got the Street Fighter achievement. It's annoying that RQs forced me to take this long with it, but it still felt good and I now have some confidence that I can take opponents at this level.
