Umm guys can i get a pm or something to know when it starts and also we should make match-ups and what is double elimination. PS @DoctaMario had a ton of fun with you and your guile mixups are good
Essentially, it's a winner's/loser's bracket tournament, except that the winner of the loser's bracket has a chance to take a shot at the winner of the winner's bracket (by beating him/her twice). That way, if the Loser bracket's winner had a really bad first-round match-up, there's still a chance to redeem himself. I believe most EVO tournaments are also held as double-elimination. Here are the initial match-ups. A-B C-D E-F G-H A beats B, C beats D, E beats F, G beats H. Winners stay in the "Upper Bracket" (A,C,E,G) Losers with one loss move to the "Lower Bracket" (B,D,F,H). Next round matchups are: Upper (Winner's) Bracket: A-C E-G Lower (Loser's) Bracket: B-D F-H A beats C, E beats G, B beats D, F beats H. Winners in Upper Bracket stay in the "Upper Bracket" (A,E) Losers with one loss move to the "Lower Bracket" (C,G). Winners from Lower Bracket move on (B,F) Losers from Lower Bracket (2 losses now) are eliminated (D,H). Next round matchups are: Upper Bracket: A-E Lower Bracket B-C F-G A beats E, B beats C, F beats G Next round: Upper Bracket: None Lower Bracket B-F B beats F Next round: Upper Bracket: None Lower Bracket B-E B beats E Finals A-B B has to beat A twice. A only needs to beat B once. Edit: and yes, it's exactly how Snooper had described the tournament. I guess "double elimination" is the official terminology for this format. And just clarification on how the Finals" match-up plays out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-elimination_tournament It's a long road if you end up losing the first round. To reach the finals, you'll have to play 2x as many matches. I'm more excited about having this tournament compared to getting the update for 2 new characters. I agree that it should be a standard best 2 out of 3 matches and finals best 3 out of 5 matches. I hope no one ends up ragequitting haha. We need to set some guidelines in case there IS a disconnect in a match. We all get pop ups every once in a while when in a match, but it should seem clear (most of the time)that if the person disconnects when they are about to lose a round/match/series, it should be an automatic disqualification. Either that or end up getting their loss and get sent to the loser's bracket or out of the tournament if they already were in the loser's bracket.
Back atcha brother! You had me sweating Lol! We definitely gotta do that again sometime soon! Your Ryu is badass and need more sparring practice with you hehe! Well this tournament beeswax is looking good! Here's what I was thinking: 1.Double Elimination 2.Best of three matches or best of 7 rounds per fight. We could give people a week to have their matches for the first round and maybe less for the quarter finals and semifinals if need be. Fights that don't take place in the allotted time or that end with "he-said-she-said" regarding the winner result in both players being disqualified. 3.I think 16 players is a good number but why don't we leave it open till next week to see if we get any more? If we can have a 32 player tourney then I'm okay with that. What do you guys want to do in regards to people changing characters? Do you think people should be required to keep the same character throughought every match or be allowed to change? And if the update comes while we're having the tournament and we allow switching, do we ban the new characters or no? As far as disconnects go, it IS possible to put the phone in Airplane Mode and turn Wifi back on so that could be a possible solution. Rage quits=loss. I think it also might be a better idea for us to make a separate thread for the tourney that way no one has to search for posts regarding one topic or another, but I figured I'd wait until we'd agreed on the rules before I make a thread.
I reckon you should have to write down what characters you wanna use, no more than 3 or 4, and you can ONLY use them. I guess you could write down fei long or evil ryu if you wanted, i might actually. One problem is deciding who's gonna play who, but we should definitely use the double elimination method.
maybe set up a preliminary pool/group round? actually that's just too complicated. we can use player's battle points to establish seeds. it's not terribly accurate, but it saves us the hassle of doing a prelim/group round. once we have an ongoing monthly tourney, we can figure out ways to set up rankings maybe
Hey bro, I was waiting for more matches. I haven't even used my fav characters. Anyway, I learned the way you play and I will use it during our tourney matches. If you still want to play, hit me up.
First of all, thanks for the adding me, guess that few rounds I'd play with DarkShadow, Mooken etc makes me kinda adorable as I ALWAYS press that ULTRA at the WRONG TIME *ahem* I will try to follow the rules/timing, but do note my internet connection here in office/home in China is NOT the best. The Characters I will be using is: 1) M. Bison 2) M. Bison 3) M. Bison 4) M. Bison I am not sure about tourney rules, but as certain characters have a certain slight advantage against other characters, I do feel it is important that people choose their characters before the match is drawn? Not sure what are the rules with regards to this...
I think AIRPLANE MODE and DISABLE ALL NOTIFICATIONS is a must before match. Also, it should not be a straight start and fight? Becoz of the lag which is kind of unpredictable depending on server side as well, I suggest there should be "testing" round? If not we will be having a situation where Gief grabs someones and flies out of the screen on top and lands 10 secs later.
off topic but we gotta play again sometime maybe 2-3 hours? my chars are: 1.Ryu-FoSho 2.Ken-MAYBE 3.Akuma-MAYBE
and make rules about the SP too..whether allowable or not . btw..as for chars selection..i think each person may can only choose up to 3 chars and submit it before the tournament.... and can only change before the individual match starts...
Agreed at the first part, but not so much about the "testing round" If things are excessively laggy, quit the match and start over. As far as the character thing goes, I was thinking more along the lines of 2 characters apiece but it doesn't really matter to me. People probably won't have enough match time to use more than 3 characters anyway if we go best of 3 matches anyway. I say allow the use of the SP button. If someone wants to use it, it's not like it's a cheat or anything.
can we keep the sp assist on cause some of us play on ipods and gets all squished but we are allowed to zone right? cause that's not the same as spamming. i watched a couple of daigo vids and some people say that he's a spammer but he's not. anyways i don't really mind but imma gonna have to go back to the training room for that lol. actually i think that we should have a vote for the sp assist. PLZ let it be on.
You can play however you want (zone, rushdown, mixups whatever). And SP assist is definitely going to be allowed. I would prefer auto-block to be banned but theres no way we can make sure people actually do, so we'll have to allow that.
Probably middle of next week if we decide to leave the entry open to people through the weekend. We still have to figure out the seeding. I think Mooken's idea of using BP is probably the best way. Though I call not having to play xD4rkSh4dowZx in the first round lol! Anyone else have objections to seeing about possibly getting another 16 or so people via a front page ad?
