Depends on your definition of "skilled", and your criteria for determining who's better. Is it finger dexterity? Is it strategic positioning, spacing, and tactics? Is it ability to read/predict your opponent's next actions? My learn towards the latter two -- I would be perfectly happy playing a version of this game with a button for every move, so that "uh-ohs" and missed moves don't occur, so that it's distilled to strictly strategy and anticipation/prediction. I think yea, they probably should allow for non-SPs to be matched up with non-SPs, but I get much more of a kick out of winning the strategic battle than the finger-speed battle. We have Guitar Hero for that.
And that's great, and understandable. You have a way you prefer to play the game that gives you more enjoyment. I have absolutely no argument with that - in fact, I think it's fantastic. I wasn't - I was extrapolating for rhetorical effect. I'm cheap like that. Not as skilled at performing special moves, certainly. Again, you're not as skilled at performing special moves. But that's only part of the game (although a very important part). Being good at performing special moves is not the same thing as being good at Street Fighter, is the point I was trying so clumsily to make. As an example, imagine two players. Player One can perform all the special moves in the game flawlessly, every time - but that's the area of the game he's put all his effort into. Player Two isn't great at all at performing special moves - in fact, he's so bad at it he often doesn't even try to use them. But he is an expert at blocking, reads his opponent very well, and has a natural aptitude for spacing and controlling distance. Which is the better Street Fighter player? (I know that's another hypothetical example, but you see the point I'm making.) I can't be sure myself, but I'd put my money on Player Two to win a match between them. I should also add that I'm not trying to diminish the skill, effort, or practice players put into the technical side of this game. I'm happy to admit that I struggle with the touch-screen controls in a way I don't with a joystick (I think it's a lot to do with the lack of tactile feedback - I never 'know' where the virtual stick is). In a lag-free game, offline for example, I can get fireballs and hurricane kicks off pretty much effortlessly. Dragon punches most of the time. But I use SP assist. Mostly because I'm lazy and I have absolutely no intention of putting any more effort into mastering the Visual Pad than I need to, but also because - again - why should I when there's a viable alternative? SP Assist may well be a crutch, but when the game's controls make you feel like you're playing with a broken leg I'm happy to use it. If you're not, then that's fine too. And when you tan my SP-using hide online you can feel even better about it! ETA: I see Mooken managed to make the same points in a fraction of the time and a tenth of the words.
heh. =) I'm actually very happy about them "lowering the barrier to entry", as you had mentioned in a prior message. I have coworkers that would never have stood a chance on console SF, who are holding their own on iOS and developing amazing sense and feel for spacing and anticipation. Even a guy who's never played Street Fighter, he's loving the game and playing online. Went from non-blocking spammer to a well-rounded game now.
Gd morning all. Just my thoughts on SP button, slams and all. It's all PART OF THE GAME MECHANICS. Capcom put it there. Stop all the whining. If you like it, use it. If you love doing the moves manually, that's great. It's all part of the game and pls stop complaining if you miss your ultra and got hit or whatever. Accept the consequences of your own decisions.
Had some epic back-and-forth with a pro makoto player. Didn't even know those existed. He had a damn good Ryu and a solid Gief. I felt cheap because Sagat > Gief, but hey, you work with what you have.
Haha, Good morning too you too! We all know my thoughts on the SP button, and it's good to see I'm not alone in thinking that way. But whatever, we all know the debate will never end and there will always be those who will rally against the apparently all mighty SP button.
Mooken! Sorry had to DC, at work and someone comes knocking on door, hahaha! Damn your Bison is good...
RAGEQUITTER !!! haha yea i figured as much, no worries dude. your bison's very good. i just got lucky with mine.
Damn, coz you're player 1, I am stuck with BLUE M. BISONs for 4-5 rounds. I hate the blue colour Bison. And of all places, you have to fight at the AIR FIELD.... ..... .... Why not the Volcano stage?! Waaaaaa (COMPLAINS)
i like the air field because it moves faster/smoother than other stages .. and it's bright so i can see everything on the screen !! stop complaining -- you won most of the matches
I just found the beastiest Zangief online: Won 1 and Lost 3. He's perfect at zoning, learned my timing really quickly to slip in his Super/Ultra and a frustrating turtle haha.
I still have to complain. It's not about winning or losing. It's the fun. Blue Bison at Air field is NOT FUN! *Whines*
I've never done an Ultra after stunning someone with a combo. I knew it wouldn't do much damage, but it surprised me how little it ended up damaging Akuma. You can skip forward to 0:20 if you want. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Thanks for the games, Mooken! Your Viper is wicked, and so is your Gief! No worries, my Bison will catch up! "Its.... not.... possible....* (Bisons crumbles to floor).... Oh btw, its great to be wearing RED again... Kekeke... (Evil Bison Laughter)
I think the lag helped me a lot. It broke up some of your bison combos, giving me a chance to SPD you. My other characters need work, oddly. I think it has a lot to do with match-ups. Bison is too airborne for honda or dhalsim to handle. Good matches all around !!
