Thanks you guys! And yes, mooken is right, I'm just gearing up! Bwah ha ha ha haaaaaa! I'm gonna be in Key West for the next two weeks starting next week so there'll be plenty of time to get sloppy (and I'll have more time to play SF4 as well! Actually, the guy who got me to START using SP Assist was Squall2002. In a way, that's kind of like a fake option select! I'm gonna have to work that one in, good lookin' out Harlequin! If anything, I think teams would make this tournament MORE inclusive since not everyone's left to their own devices. And that way, I could team up with someone better and just ride their coattails to the winner's circle! I pitched this a couple weeks ago and no one seemed to take to it. If there were more DD guys willing to participate, I think it would be cool. And it wouldn't have to be TA vs. DD, we could have teams that consist of a member of each team. I'm still pushing for the idea of a team tourney. I think it would get the most people involved and give more people a fair shot at winning. I did that with my tourney (which was actually the first tourney we had here) and it worked great for about 10-12 weeks, but after that, it got hard to keep people involved. Course, I gave people a week to play their matches, which, in hindsight, may have been too long. If we'd have two matches a week it might have worked better.
So here's another idea i had: I like the Battle Royal thing, but I think that doing it in a different way might be more fun. 1.Everyone gets matched up randomly. There aren't any brackets. 2.Everyone can stand 3 losses before they are eliminated. 3.No Character limits or tiered tournament brackets. 4.Fights are 1 best of 7 round match. Basically you fight until you've either been beaten three times or you win. We'd have to keep track, but I think this might be a better idea also because matchups are decided at random rather than relying on a tournament bracket which ultimately favors the best players. This isn't really a "tournament" as much as it's an event.
I keep hearing about this cry for 1 big fat Tourney. If the majority want it, we can make it happen. PLEASE WEIGH IN NOW!
I just think having two tiers is silly. It's like, by not being in one tier, you avoid playing a whole crop of players regardless. It makes the results less "real" I guess for lack of a better word. I think if we were to do something that wasn't the standard "tourney-bracket-doubleelim" thing it might be better for everyone and it would give everyone the chance to compete on the same level. I'm far from top level myself, but I think if it's going to be done, I'd rather be competing against EVERYONE, not just a smaller crop of players.
D4. Lets go the one big-fat tourney route then. 1 tier, best of 5. You can only use 1 character 2x and if you choose that character, you have to go back to back. This is not a tourney to determine the best...it has an element of luck to it
Yes. I am saying that if you win with your character, if you choose another character, you can't go back to that character later. If you do choose that character again, that is the last time you can use them since you hit the 2x limit. Simple?
Let's just do another big fat tourney like last time - we'll all spend a few days or so and link the signup page for it in our sigs to recruit everyone we play against, and BLOWIE!
I'm up for the Big Fat Tourney. I'm less inclined to recruit non-active/non-forum players, that really dragged out the tourney last time.
so.. it seems the best idea is to have ONE category that everyone will enter. I spoke with some higher tier players, and they have mentioned that they like the idea of one class, rather than two. I am all for having one giant class. I will say, I think the "must use your main twice in a row rule" is complete garbage. This tournament seemd appealing to me in the beginning processes, just because of the idea, I could get paired with Apprunner's Cammy first round and lets say I use dalsim, well to turn the stakes up, lets say I lose, next round I have to anticpate Appruners next choice, it could be cammy again, or maybe Ryu, I have to make my next choice based on what I think Apprunner would do, and vice versa. I like this method much better, I like the amount of "randomness" and "mind game" that it will force upon us. I don't want to get paired with someone, see their main, and know that next round they HAVE to use.... to predictible. Using one character max 2x seems rule enough... just my input.
I liked the mind games as well. If we do one big tier then I think the s tier guys can only use one character once
If I change it to this format its set in stone. Theres too much back and forth and its only going to hold things up and cause confusion, at the end of the day we cant please everyone and all if us are individuals with our own thoughts and ideas. I've been trying to take everyones suggestions into consideration but like I said We cant please everybody. So can we all agree that this is Final? EDIT: No character 2x rule, it takes away completely what he had in mind in the first place.
Okay. So now its set in stone then. You can use a character 2x but doesn't have to be back to back. Anything goes. Best of 5 (or first to 3). 1 big fat tourney. Still double elimination so we can at least have 2 sets in the tourney. Lets keep this tourney on track on try to finish in 2-3 weeks timeframe. That way, interest doesn't wane. Replays are optional until quarterfinals...then all matches must be put up by the loser Can we all agree now
