Actually, I'd only encountered a few good Zangief players who's very good at their positioning and melees. Most are not. Reason why I say so is that: 1) If they miss their throw, they are very open to counters, 2) Most are expecting a few pokes and grab you. If you stay in the air mostly, they are unable to do much except the spinning punch thing. The trade-off may be worth it for them, but not the position after you are hit and fly away 3) If they throw you too often, that means they are reading your game too easily. That is they KNOW you're gonna throw a fireball/DP/etc. It is quite easy to read most Ryu players, for example, upon wake up, me (as Zangief) will do a crouch knock-down kick. 2nd time, I will block coz I know you will DP. Going by the frequency of you getting thrown, PERHAPS you're not mixing up your game and attacking well. Suggest the next time you play Zangief, you should: 1) DO NOT throw fireballs (unless he is at the far end of the screen) becoz: you risk being countered by green hand, jump in, FC, etc. Exception to this: You can read him well and uses the fireball as a zoning tool (i.e. keeping him away). 2) Play more with your punches, kicks, esp. sweeping kick for Ryu. Most pple won't expect that. A crouch medium kick + fireball may do slightly more damage, but sweeping kick makes your opponent drop and you gain positional advantage. 3) Mix up your jumps. Anyone who keep jumping around without idea of what to do will be grabbed sooner or later. Just be careful of some Zangief who's extremely good in closing up on you with their jump in down-punch body press. It will get very dangerous for you. Try training mode on hard against Zangief first. If you can string your attacks till he has zero health while yours is full, then ya, you're keeping the good attacking game going. Do not be too defensive with Zangief! 4 throws (usually 3 + 1 ultra) and you're dead. P.S> Sorry for the long post, if you want training against him, you can add me (nick same in GC), although I seldom used him now...
Akuma is easy against CPU on easy/normal or even hard difficulties depending on how well you know your game. However when it's grueling, Akuma is NOT that easy to use (and online as well) becoz CPU knows how to counter more effectively, and online players are usually experienced in playing against Akumas (when they are NOT using Akumas hehehe).... Note Akuma suffers a slight health disadvantages (most attacks against him does more damage than compared to other characters). If you're really new to SF, try Ryu. Best entry level, not difficult to use, good to master, and simple timing/moves. P.S> Try using Akuma vs. M.Bison in Training Mode on Grueling. You'll be surprise Akuma AI is NOT the worse...
Any Viper players have any tips for playing against Dhalsim or Blanka? I think I've figured out most of the other popular characters, but these two seem to own me when I meet them online. Dhalism players confuse the hell out of me with all the teleporting and long range attacks, and Blanka is just all over the place with his rolling ball and flying ball and I have no idea how to avoid his super and ultra.
Funny, I just got smoked by both a Dhalsim player and a Blanka player. I had to switch to Dhalsim myself to beat Dhalsim, and switched to Honda/Ryu/Blanka to stand a chance against Blanka. There are just some match-ups that don't work well for Viper. I couldn't figure out the best ways to counter those two characters w Viper at all.
A Good Dhalsim is hard to find, but even then my Bison is owned by him. His pokse are just too long... Zz.... (Goes learn Yoga)
^ Ha, then I guess I'll just take my beatings when I come across those two. I also switch to Ryu so I can stand a chance against them, but I was still curios if there was something I can do as Viper. Thanks.
Dhalsim is easy to beat. If the player is good, he/she will do a teleport cross-up. Just make sure to block the cross-up, high and low, and wait for an opening. Best way to practice this is to play the game on grueling. The CPU will do basic tactics and combos that most players use. Such as Ryu's zoning, and Dhalsim's teleport cross-up. Good luck!
OMG just had 6 epic battles with mooken [you have a very good honda] and yeah it was very fun. if anybody wants to battle me friendly plz send me a request in 1hr from this message [going out to eat dinner] anyways peace ~xD4RKSH4DOWZx
There are two types of dhalsims, the crazy mixup teleport ones and the zoning ones. Zoning ones shouldnt be a problem for viper as her superjump lets her go pretty much across the screen in one go. If its a teleport-behind you dhalsim, just use heavy thunder knuckle, its pretty much the same as a dp. In general just rush him down and watch out for the behind teleport. Pretty easy match up for viper. Blanka is another story. You dont want to be too predictable with your jump ins or youll eat his electricity. Instead try and stick to the ground and be unpredictable. Watch out for his slide though, if he does that do a really quick burning kick and that should catch him. Also, you can hit him when he does electricity with a sweep and you wont get hurt. One of vipers harder matches. Edit:You can block Blankas ultra really easily. If youre right next to him block low, then high when he comes down from above, then after that high or low. Theres a huge window to punish him after it. You could probably use vipers ultra, im not sure, but you could definitley throw in a med thunder knuckle at least.
Zzzzz.... Now I know why u didnt respond to my fight request... I'm in China / Asia.... Our timezone is different! *I just finished lunch*
It sucks when your ultra gets ultra'ed , but of course that means the ultra is not being used in the correct manner haha .
Been trying to practice 'Rog's ultra from bull headbut (kick input juggle) on live friendly, but every time I choose him as my char I get matched up against folks in New Zealand on dialup or something.
both times opp had almost no hb, so i thought ultras is the easy way to win rounds because some dmg would go through the block.
I'm sure I'm not. I suspect the psychological double-whammy of Ranking mode (I always seem to play worse - less freely - when there's BP on the line) and Zangief (where I go into a match fearing the worst) counts against me as much as my general ineptitude... That's good advice, I'll try that - particularly playing the CPU (need to do that for Balrog (Claw), Cammy, and Bison (Boxer) as well - no-one I play on consoles IRL uses them, so I'm unfamiliar with what they do...). Thanks. When I played as Ken I learnt early on that that's pretty much the only way to use his ultra online, as an anti-ultra move, due to how ridiculously open it leaves you if it doesn't hit (which, due to the fact that lag can make it come out a full second after you hit it, happens often)...
Ultras have save my bacon many many times! BTW, Just fought an Akuma on Friendly and I somehow managed to forward jump kick into an Ultra, something I never thought was possible.
Maybe you already are, but make sure you hold down kick for the first hit of his ultra after a headbutt, otheriwse it will wiff
