Now I know you're recording our gameplay, I will be more *stressful*... (Oops i miss that ultra when you land... oops... i was so cute... oops... By the way, what software you used to extract out the recordings? I can't access youtube from office, too slow. Did you upload the part where my Deejay was doing SC/ultra and your Ryu was flying 5m above me with an ex-tatsu? That was classic.... < Ryu Ex-Tatus in Air < My Deejay
Guess what, my Bison was crashed by a Ryu earlier. What he does: 1) Wait 2) DP if I jump attack or teleport 3) Jump Kick if I block, 4) Crouch Sweep Kick after jump, 5) Slam me if I block 3 or 4 Mix up all 5 above. I hate it when Ryu/Ken/Akumas DUN SHOOT FIREBALL. Reduces my attack options of Bison... < Bison Look
I'm hitting a real wall with this game at the moment - I think maybe it's time for me to have a break from it. I think part of the problem is Ranking mode - it's sucking all the fun out of it, particularly for someone who's not very good at the game. It seems around 1,000 BP is my actual level, as I yo-yo around it by a couple of hundred points. It's not the losing so much, as I don't mind that at all on Friendly mode. I think it must be the 1,500 achievement and how out of reach it seems. And the fact that it's the last one I need. When certain characters come up in Ranking mode, my heart sinks. Not so in Friendly. When I lose a close game in Ranking, it's annoying. In Friendly it feels like fun. And the fact that, all these months later, the achievement is still as far away as ever (although I did get up to 1,420 BP once) is a little bit depressing. And the lag is destroying this game like it was the new ragequit. I don't know what they've done since the update, but it borders on unplayable now. It's just horrible. Anyway, my top-five peeves with the game (NB - Most of these have the simple answer 'Get good!' ): 1) The lag. I'm sick to death of being punished because moves either don't come out or come out late. Particularly when the right move at the right time becomes, through no fault of your own, a game-losing whiff. If nothing else, how are you supposed to actually learn how to play the game well when nothing works?; 2) Blocking. I'm absolutely fed up of knowing what's coming, blocking accordingly, and getting hit (probably related to No. 1 in the list).; 3) Getting punished for hitting someone. It seems ridiculous to me that I can be disadvantaged for connecting with a hit, so it annoys me immensely when the recovery time for my hit is less than the opponent's for being hit. It's doubtless something I need to learn for each move, but it's completely counter-intuitive. Also multi-part moves - I stopped playing as Ken 'cause I was sick of only connecting with the first hit of his moves and getting punished for it.; 4) Characters (Cammy, I'm looking at you) whose moves either take longer for you to recover from blocking than your opponent takes to recover from missing or who bounce back so far from an unsuccessful hit that you can't retaliate. Again, there is almost certainly ways to do it, but I don't yet know them. In the meantime, people can basically attack with impunity.; 5) Zangief. Moves unstoppably toward me, throws me. My Ryu hits him six hundred times while I'm running away and trying to keep my distance, to no visible impact. He throws me three times and I'm KO'd. And woe betide me if I actually attack him, with his absolutely ridiculous priorities. Gah!. Any hints on any of those topics greatly appreciated - or any 'get better' tips at all. Or advice on how to stop worrying and learn to love (or ignore) Ranking mode. Ta! Rant over! *deep breath and relax*
It's ok, lets have a game later after dinner (+abt 3-4 hrs from now) if you're free! Cutie Bison vs. Ryu with Video Cam
For number 3, I think the majority of moves either give you a frame advantage on hit or the frame disadvantage period for your move is so short that opponents are not able to punish you , save for a few short startup moves (Zangief with 1 frame startup super and ultra, akuma with 1 frame super, honda 1 frame ultra) . If you do connect with the first hit then I don't see how they could punish unless you dropped the combo or you are out of range (Ken target combo) , if that is the case then get nearer and try again For number 5, zone gief with fireball and you should be fine . His greenhand no longer knocks down so punish him if he throws it on block . Mix zoning with attacking to put some pressure, get a knockdown on him and jump on wake up to possibly bait spd or ultra from newbie players . Don't do too many blockstrings while attacking him and mainly start your combos from jump-ins . Gief's spd is a 2 frame throw while ryu's throw is a 3 frame throw , don't be afraid to throw him .
It could well be that the examples you give are the ones I've noticed - they probably jump out at me when they happen. The rest could well be me dropping combos and the like. As I said, a lot of this is undoubtedly me being rubbish! The Ken-thing happens a lot on his dragon punch (and occasionally his hurricane kick) - I think, if it doesn't connect quite right, the first hit knocks the opponent our of range of the other hits - meaning they can hurt you on the way down. It may well be my fault, again, but it happened enough to sour me on the character (at least in Ranking). I need to get better at zoning - my timing and distance-management isn't what it could be. The problem I have is that, eventually, he'll close the gap and that's when I'm in trouble. Getting out the corner without getting thrown is hard. Cheers for the advice, though - it's appreciated and I shall try and put it into practice!
as a zangief player...zoning no longer works on me. ;] your best bet is mixing up jump-in combos. or faking out force attacks...anything that'll bait me into doing a command grab and missing. this'll leave me VERY open for a punish. also...I get that interrupted combo thing too. usually against Ken and Cammy. what you do is just remember to only do the first few hits and block....never completing the regular combo. it'll keep you safe, and if you are lucky they will do dragon punch/ cannon swipe so you can punish them afterwards.
Ive been playing with alot of characters recently, and the ones ive had the best results with are chun li and honda, mostly honda. You can spam his headbutt all day against certain characters, he has a command throw, his normals are crazily strong, his super is probably the best in the game, hes just one tough bastard. Chun li is a zoning character, her pokes are ridiculous and she has a fireball. she can easily punish fireballs close/medium range with hazanshu-cr kick- ex lightning legs. ex spinning bird kick is a great reversal and she can can go from a zoner to rushdown really easily. so many underrated characters, its a shame that 80% of matches are either akuma/sagat/ryu and more recently alot of guiles gonna give vega and cody a shot tomorrow. chun li and honda are definitley going to be a pat of my arsenal from now on, especially honda
today i was playing online and came across a really good gief player, completely trashed my abel and honda. so what i decided to was play as a scrub akuma and see how he dealt with it. i just spammed air fireball, ground fireball and teleport. he got a few random hits on me but i won 2-0. and yes, he did fadc through fireballs and neutralize them with green hand, but all in all i won, which really upset me, because i had 1800 bp at the time and he had like 4000. he was without a doubt the better player. in the next update i reckon they should nerf the recovery on akumas teleport or air fireball. maybe at a tournament level of play keep away isnt a viable strategy, but even for above average players it can seem impossible. needless to say he didnt play anymore rounds with me
Just played against a Zangief online. Not even a good Zangief. A pretty bad one. And yet it still took me until the 6th game to beat him. He just does too much damage. It's f***ing ridiculous. It doesn't work on anyone, the way I try it... Right now it feels like my best bet is to just turn the machine off as soon as Zangief appears. I just don't know what to do against him. If I stay back and fireball, he'll jump or green-hand through them. If I jump in, he'll block and then throw me. If I dash in, he'll block and throw me. If I focus attack, he'll grab me out of it and throw me. If I try and throw him, he'll throw me. If I dragon-punch on wake-up, he'll block and throw me. If I do nothing on wake-up, he'll throw me. Basically, he's gonna throw me. Pretty much the only success I had was dragon-punching at a green-hand. But you have to do it so flipping much to make a dent in his health. And, even if you do, you're just feeding his ultra - which does so much damage, and grabs you out of pretty much anything so effectively, it might as well be a 'press this button to win' move. I've seen Daigo's Ryu, for example, absolutely destroy Zangiefs - so I know it's possible. I'm just not good enough, and don't yet know how to. And as soon as you add the lag factor I'm unlikely to learn. Sorry to moan, I'm just so fed up of being taken to the cleaners by Zangief. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind losing, it's the fact that it's almost a foregone conclusion at the moment. It's even more depressing than chasing Akuma around the screen for the thousandth time! You mean it misses? It's not when it's a combo I find it really annoying, it's when it's a multi-hit move such as Ken's dragon punch... One of the best players I know IRL has played Honda all through Street Fighter IV until AE, in his words, 'destroyed him'. He certainly used to be a fearsome opponent... I used to play Chun-Li in the various versions of Street Fighter II, until they turned her into a charge character. I've never been able to get to grips with charge characters so, come Street Fighter Zero, it was hello to Mr Masters... Maybe I should stop trying to play 'properly' against Zangief and instead unleash my inner 'scrub', then!
the melee characters are easy for me. (except probably Abel and Cammy) a fireball happy akuma, while not as bad as he used to be til I figured it out, gives me the most trouble...and for some reason Dhalsim too. but I do think I wanna give chun li a try. I wish they'd add more non-SF2 characters in the next update. I like the new characters. I heard rumors of evil ryu....do we really need another ryu character????
Pretty much everything the game needs for him is already done, though - I suspect that's the reason for his upcoming inclusion...
Thanks for all the replies and tips guys. um i actually used an app called display recorder to record the match [its a jailbreak app. ps. i 'm jailbroken for tweaks and themes only i don't pirate apps] anyways thanks for the tips and i'll get better and mikkel1977 i'll challenge you again in a couple of days.[gonna train harder] also i'll upload some more gameplay videos and sadly no i didn't record the battle with ryu vs. deejay. also anybody wanna battle me friendly anytime soon my ign is xD4RKSH4DOWZx
a combo is a number of hits linked together. in a true combo your opponent isnt able to do anything. If theyre able to throw in a dp then your timing is off.
also thanks very much for the website links and your help snooper i really appreciate it ps anybody up for a match? gc id: xD4RKSH4DOWZx
Actually, you're right. For some reason I'd remembered that move as being HCB. The memory cheats when you get to my age! Now I'm wondering what it was that made me switch in Alpha - can't just have been the tracksuit bottoms...
when i get home from school sure. i live in australia so the times are a bit different. ill have a game 6 hours after i posted this, whatever time that is for you guys. always glad to help edit: my gc id is Snooper' (because someone had already taken Snooper without the apostrophe lol) if anybody wants to add me please do and ill have a few fights for sure
I haven't played this very much at all but have gotten into it a bit today. Is playing as Akuma really easy, because he is really hard to beat as an AI.
Playing Akuma is more or less like playing as any other shoto like Ken or Ryu but you have to be a bit more careful since he has less health. You also have to be a bit more of an experienced player in my opinion to fully take advantage of his mixup options.
