I agree - although there is a difference (maybe only in attitude and intention?) between zoning and Sagat standing at one side of the screen sending out fireballs constantly.

There's probably a line somewhere that goes from 'spammer' to 'Daigo'¹. I'm just trying to work my way along it²! :)

I seem to spend most of my time online chasing Akuma, so I know what you mean. I wouldn't call it 'scrubby', though - it's a legitimate tactic, and it works against a lot of people. In Ranking mode, particularly, the whole point is to win. Those players aren't doing anything that wasn't deliberately included in the game. It's up to us to punish them for their predictable behaviour - there's always a way (it's green-handing grabby Zangiefs that I have huge trouble with, for instance).

It annoys me more in Friendly mode, I must admit - there the 'point' is less to win and more to practice and have fun. But it's all still the game³...

¹Back when he played as Ryu, obviously.
²But I keep getting the distance wrong...
³He says, swearing at his iPhone as another Sagat does nothing but fireball...

Does anyone know how to do challenge 6 and 7 for Makoto? I can never seem to join an EX sky punch (> v > SP) with and jump + EX jump kick (v < SP). Am I supposed to jump vertically for this or forward? I can pull off the EX jump kick but it never hits, and yes the dummy is at the edge of the screen.

I think Zangief is a little boring personally, and he can be a frustrating character to play with at times. Guile and Dhalsim are great options though.

Guile can be used in a few different ways. Many people turtle with him, which works against certain characters, but I've found that playing very aggressive against fireball spammers works very well too. I think it catches people off guard a little, and Guile's quick block is great against dragon punchers. Once I knock a player down I push even harder, following close behind sonic booms and either backhanding or slamming. I am typically even willing to take some damage just to get inside and knock an opponent down just because I know I'll have an advantage once I get an opponent to the ground.

Dhalsim is more of a tricky character. He doesn't do as much damage, and while I'm personally not good with combos, he's certainly not a character I'd choose for his combos. But his teleport really keeps opponents from getting in a rhythm and his reach/anti-air moves confuse a lot of people. Throw in his slide under fireballs and he's a great option.

I had a load of trouble with Makoto's 6th... You should be jumping forwards for the EX kick. And, actually, this was the one challenge I found having the opponent in the corner was often a disadvantage - I think it's easier to do it 'out in the open'...

I don't think challenge 6 is intended to be performed in the corner

no way to combo into his ultra 1
hold FA and just press forward or backward once (twice in console)
to cancel out from FA stance

the Ken's canceling shoryuken technique it's called EX FADC (consumed 2 super meter bars) and basically just hold FA and move backward or forward after executing the particular move

I meant to ask this too. I've seen it with Ryu, Ken and Sagat. I block dragon punches and start my counter, only to have my opponent cancel the dragon punch (after getting the chip damage) and then re-counter against me. It's extremely annoying that people can do this.

I just started playing as Dhalsim again after maiming Cammy for all of July. The difference in speed is ridiculous (it's going to take me a while to get used to how slow Dhalsim is :p) but in terms of strategic ganeplay, Dhalsim is (at least for me) on a whole different level.

Challenge 8 is the only way to combo into it where you Flash Kick -> Super -> Ultra. You have to get the right timing down when the opponent is in the air. VERY situation based though since you need full super meter and get lucky that the opponent will hop towards you. Does a nice 445 damage, so that's a plus.

I spent ages on that challenge and haven't completed it - it feels that there is no way enough time to charge the super after the flash kick before the player hits the ground :(

If I remember rightly, you keep the stick held down-back and cancel the flash kick into the super, then hit 'em with the ultra on the way down (I seem to recall the time I got the ultra to connect only the third hit of the super hit Ryu)...

Oh man i do hope the second update will contain Dudley and Fei-Long and the third maybe Rufus/El Fuerte and Hakan. :D

But still, im glad Deejays in the game lol :p

Played some online games with Vega, i do hate Ryus. Would serve them right if you banned SP use from online games.

Yes that's how to do it, but I'll explain it more clearly:
    - Hold down diagonal left
    - Flash kick
    - Immediately tap the super bar like a fraction of a second after flash kick animation starts, Guile will sort of combine his flash kick into his super (gets that motion freeze thing)
    - Super needs to hit fully (5 hits I think)
    - At the maximum height, use ultra
Honestly this game's hit timing is ridiculous and impossible to use in real battles, and doesn't make any sense, I mean Guile's foot is like right through Ryu's stomach and that doesn't count as a hit.

Guile is fun to play with aggressively. He has pretty decent punches and kicks which makes opponents guessing, and once they are down, your options to sonic boom + backhand or back+kick or slam or jump attack or crouch sweeping kick or focus attack or... the list goes on...

Turtling may be ok but predictable... Mixing up attack/defense works very well with him... :D

The lack of an overhead in this version of the game makes it tough for Guile to really crack a player who's in defensive-crouch. You can apply chip damage, but there's a very limited wake-up game (defender either defensive blocks, or tech-throws). Particularly since there's no way for him to encroach or inch closer without losing his flashkick charge.
