    What does Sacred Aura do?

I can't tell what the Sacred Aura does. The description says it "keeps enemies at bay with an impenetrable field of magical energy". However when I pick one up it still seems like I'm just as vulnerable to enemies running into me. Am I missing something?

NOTE - UPDATE 1.04 IS LIVE WITH MANY BUG FIXES
    =======================================

The latest update has just gone live with fixes for the mis-represented Warp Stone count and some very big memory leak fixes that should help performance on older devices or for people playing later and more enemy-heavy levels. You should see fewer (if any) memory relate crashes now.

    ================================================

Thanks for the suggestion! Another take on the less-hardcore approach. Duly noted.

Well, some old-school gamers would dispute that ;) The game definitely takes it's cue more from Smash TV, Pacman or other games that only gave you one life. We're certainly considering the one-less-than-max idea, but there are players who like the current set up as well. It's harder, but the flipside is the satisfaction of picking up that extra heart, or dodging that arrow to survive for an epic run when the odds are against you.

You can still be hit by enemy weapons such as arrows and melee weapons, but the enemies can't get as close to you, so it's easier to get away, and enemies like chargers or crows can't hurt you at all, since they don't have a range-based attack. We're open to tweaking of certain cards, and the Sacred Aura could be worth reviewing. Thanks for bringing it up.

I am an old school gamer.
I still think dying in one shot is not fun.
One mistake and boom you're dead. :(

Worthy of note: Pacman didn't lose all his progress in the current stage when he died. So it was sort of like HP. :p

Ipad mini non-retina still crashes regularly, i believe this fix is in the next patch, am i right? Also my gems still say 70 with no change. Earlier people mentioned getting the joysticks either larger or free floating to where ever you put your finger down, any chance of relief with this? Lots of deaths because my finger strays just a little. And yes i would like to see more than 1 heart at the beginning. A level 30 should not get 1-shotted by the smallest opponent. Please, pretty please?

    *updates*

    *plays tutorial*

    *closes game*

*runs app that fills storage space to trigger iOS's junk cleanup*

*game fails to get past Get Set screen*

    Argh...

    *reinstalls*

Please tell me this is going to be fixed soon. I don't even want to seriously start and risk my save data being messed up in some other way. :(
And I want to be able to clean up junk files.

I'm in my mid forties, so arguably old school. I never played Smash TV, but the only version of Pacman I've ever played started with 3 lives. Similarly with Asteroids, Centipede, Galaga, and other games of that era. Admittedly you also didn't earn more lives/HP as often as you can in this game, so it's not a completely fair comparison.

In any case, fair enough. I waver back and forth about what I think of starting with one heart, and it certainly hasn't stopped me from wanting to play the game. What's actually making me decide to drop it for now is the controls. I've gotten a lot better at playing, but the one thing I can't get reliable at is using the controls. I'd say now 50% of the times I get hit, it's not because I didn't see something coming or think of what to do fast enough, but rather because I tried to move or aim in a particular direction and the controls didn't respond the way I wanted. I think I'll put the game aside for a bit until there's an update to increase the hit zone for the control sticks. I also suspect that if I could more reliably use the controls I might be totally fine with starting with one heart.

Also, do you support MFi controllers? I think I remember reading that the sticks were mapped, but not the item button? I'm planning to get a controller as soon as the Madcatz one is released, and that might also completely solve my controls problem with the game.

Also, if you want to see an example of a dual stick shooter with really spot-on touch controls, take a look at JoyJoy or Ballistic SE, by Radiangames. In every review I've read for those games, the reviewer remarked on how precise the controls feel. Physical controls will always be best for dual stick shooters IMO, but Radiangames showed me that it is possible to have good virtual joysticks as well.

Ah, well in that case I don't think anything needs to be tweaked. I tried running into some enemies to see what happened and got hit, but I probably tried it against an enemy with a sword. I'm fine with it only protecting against some enemies. Though I suppose it might be cool if its protection radius was increased enough so that it could protect at least from the smaller enemies with swords. The big swordsmen with longer reach would still be able to get you, and of course projectiles. As it is it seems less useful than other power ups.

^ what's the app that fills storage to clear ios junk files? And is it dangerous? As in it might delete some useful files?

Battery Doctor. It has a junk cleanup thing, a ram clearing thing, and it has an option to set off an alarm when your battery is charged 100%. :)
It is apparently filling storage to trigger the iDevice's own cleanup thing, so it's really a built in feature that you can't trigger manually for some reason. It's only dangerous to data that is stored as cache or something... I'm not sure about the exact details on everything that equals "junk files."

Some games/apps apparently store their save data in a way that ends up being deleted by this. Oops.
So under normal conditions those apps would lose their data if you fill up your device. :(
A couple of examples: Bill Killem (Save data gone. I deleted it because of this issue plus I didn't like it that much anyway)
and Storm Casters (The game fails to load. They are working on this exact issue, I think...? I hope. :p )

Thank you GetSet! I haven't had a single issue since updating :)

I'm also using Battery Doctor (great app) and it doesn't seem to affect my Storm Casters save data.

    Huh...
When I run the junk cleanup (not memory/ram) and then try to start the game, it refuses to load past the "Get Set" screen.
I reinstalled then I tried it a second time and had the same result.

(I started the game and got a short distance in each time. Just past some tutorial stuff. I confirmed the game started again before doing the junk cleanup, but it didn't start after.)

I just ran the memory boost and clean up cache, then started Storm Casters without any problem.

It is interesting to note that I reopened Batery Doctor and having only used Storm Casters, my memory was extremely low again.

Which devices are you both playing on? And how much free storage space do you have? Maybe those differences account for the different behavior you're seeing.

I've yet to experience any freezes during startup on my iPad 4. I have experienced temporary freezes a few times, where the game kept freezing for a second while playing. Quitting and restarting the game resolved it for me. This was before the latest update.

I'm on an iPhone 5S with almost 2 gigs of free space. I have had one slight freeze up in which I closed the app and reopened it and all was normal.

Can confirm the game will not load after deleting junk files with Battery Doctor on iPad mini retina with 4gb free space.

Edit: previously the game froze on the get set screen, after the update it freezes right before entering the dungeon. I can hear the music change, but then nothing...

In my case all the monsters are gone. It might have happened with the recent update. There are no monsters in any of the floors anymore. Bosses and crates are still there but nothing else. I deleted and reinstalled the app, but problem remains.

iPhone 5. iOS 7.1.1... I see there's an update to 7.1.2. I didn't get the notification of that yet. *shrug*
It might not affect the problem, but anyway...
I need to go somewhere with wifi to download the under 100 MB update (100 MB being the App Store download limit. So why can't this...?) So I can't test that right now.

More than 1 GB of space on my first attempt to clean junk files and then start the game. I doubt it matters how much more space is available at that point, but anyway, I'm not sure how much space I had on the second try. I had just deleted some random games and so there was more space. I've done more deleting of whatever so I don't know what it was then.
Like I said, both tests resulted in never passing the "Get Set" screen.

I'm curious Intendro, how often have you had this game misbehave when you didn't use Battery Doctor?

I do believe you are exposing a bug in the game by running Battery Doctor's space fill function, and the developer should fix it, but could you avoid the bug for the most part by just not running junk file cleanup? Also, I'm curious why you purposefully trigger the iOS file cleanup routine instead of just letting the OS do it on its own. Is it because you're running very low on space?

The bug would happen if I ended up filling up my space normally, so that's definitely a problem that I'm worried about. If I happened to update something big and it ended up taking up too much space during the install process (due to keeping the previous version there until the end)...

I haven't really played the game because of the various reported bugs that are being fixed soon... I would prefer to avoid messing up my enjoyment of the game. :p
All I did was a tutorial (to create save data) followed by trying the cleanup to see if the bug was fixed yet.
I did also encounter lagging when I killed an enemy (which they said they are fixing).

I make the thing run the cleanup because my available space is generally kind of low now, and basically I want to see how much space I "actually have."

I would prefer to clean up the space before it fills up.
It's like, I can't put part of something into a box and then empty the box to make it fit; I need the space first. :p
So it's weird that the cleanup doesn't seem to be available normally to do that.

...I may have gone slightly overboard with this message's length. :p

Well, anyway, even if I decided to just not do junk cleanup until that bug fix, I figure I might as well wait to have the lag fixed, along with whatever else gets fixed.
