Stencilsmith 2.0 - New Time Attack Mode

Hi everyone! I'm working on the huge 2.0 update and wanted to share my progress as I work towards release. This update will include 3 brand new game modes and I'm excited to say that each of them require you to completely change your strategy. The first new mode is Time Attack. You start with 30 seconds and have to quickly get enemies added to the board then defeat them to add time to the clock. There's no hearts in this mode so anything goes. Just make sure you're planning ahead while furiously swiping to stay alive. Here's a screenshot of the current version. New clock icon animates when time is added to the clock:

Haha! You're a glutton for punishment if you're following my lousy scores. Seems like I've plateaued. I think I need to work on a new strategy. I try to keep all of my attack swords on one side of the board and then heard the enemy to that side. But I always end up with enemy's behind me one way or another then all bets are off. Would love to hear other strategies.

I don't think I've ever tried that one. It sounds pretty good though I feel like it'd be tough to follow it religiously. My strategy is get all 6 heart containers ASAP though I've toyed with the idea of spreading them out because it's a guaranteed heart fill up which is helpful if you're down to your last heart and are in a bind. What I'm most excited about with the new game modes is they all require a completely different strategy from the current mode (endless/infinity mode). I can't wait for people to get their hands on them!

Been trying your stategy. I can see how it may work, but it's sure tough to pass up those 3 value swords to gain the hearts. I can see the risk/reward using this strategy later in the game.

Yeah, you definitely need to weigh what's the best way to maximize your diamond at any point in time. Oh yeah, at the higher levels, getting a heart fillup + an extra heart container is invaluable!

Pixel Theme + Time Attack Gameplay

    Greetings!

Check out this short vid I just uploaded showing the new pixel theme along with current version of time attack game mode that'll be released in the upcoming 2.0 update. Let me know what you think!

I gave this a go after a quick chat with Stencilsmith_Dev in the Developer Discussion section. It's very cool. I was a bit cynical that a combination of crafting and Threes would work, but the tutorial gets you going impressively quickly and then it's just dead satisfying to play.

2.0 Update & Price Drop Details

I just wanted to give TA forum members a heads up that Stencilsmith version 2.0 is being released a week from today on September 29 & will have a price drop down to $0.99 USD. Here are the update details:

    • 3 new game modes, each require a different strategy
    • Design mode allows you to create, share & play with your own artwork
    • Pixel theme lets you play in a retro style
    • Theme selection allows you to change the look of the game even while playing
    • Record, save & share gameplay with ReplayKit
    • Share your latest score & game board screenshot via Twitter & Facebook
    • Improved the tutorial and added additional help resources
    • Various UI updates & bug fixes

    New Game Modes
    ----------------------
Endless: The original Stencilsmith game mode is now called "Endless". The game begins with three hearts. Use your wit and determination to reach the highest level possible before you run out of hearts or moves.

Time Attack: You have 30 seconds to reach the highest level you can! No hearts in this game mode, just swipe as furiously as you can to earn more time by defeating enemies. The game is over when the clock reaches zero.

Kingsguard: Endless rules with a twist...protect the King! If he is attacked the game is over.

Three M: The game starts with three diamond swords AKA the Three Musketeers and absolutely no chance for another sword to be added to the board. Keep your Musketeers alive by unlocking chests with gems to increase their strength. The game is over when the last Musketeer is defeated. There are no hearts in this mode.

Bit disappointed that all of the new game modes are some variant of endless/highscore mode. I'd love to have an actual win/loss-based "competitive" single-player mode.

Hey Nachtfischer, thanks for your feedback. I would love to add even more game modes in the future, I have ideas for PvP competitive modes over Game Center. Could you tell me what you mean by competitive single player mode?

Not to put words in Nachtfischer's mouth, but I can only assume he means something like objective challenges, like you only have 20 turns to slay 4 dragons. If you complete this challenge it is a win, otherwise, you've failed. So this would I guess be a separate mode of many discrete challenges you can choose from (likely arranged in difficulty from easiest to hardest) each with both their own win/clear objectives, but also maybe some slight rule variations to keep stuff interesting. Like maybe a challenge where there are no dragons and thus no treasure chests or keys (unless you'd also want to tweak the rules where treasure chests could show up on their own once in a blue moon) but enemies spawn far more frequently.
