All I've read from NMS gives me ideas towards improving Stellar Horizon some of them are realistic, others are just dreams. You can post your ideas here, and I'm sure Sylvain will have them into account (even if they are never implemented in the game). This game has come a long way of changes and improvements that, if it had followed the same monetary scheme of Wayward Souls, it would be around the $10 now for sure, which would still be a bargain for the pile of hours of gameplay I've got from it (and the ones still to come!).
So, picked this up due to sales and high praise in the thread. Unsure what I do in the game. I can fly around and dock at different planets and buy stuff. I do see some random npc flying around sometimes. But game seems bare bones, almost borderline like a text game (nothing wrong with that as I still play godville 6 years later). But I was kind of expecting some planetary exploration since people are comparing it to no mans sky but when I rock at a planet all I see is some wire frame thing from the virtual boy era. Maybe I need to YouTube how to play this game.
When I first played the game the settings in Stellar Horizon were set to very low. You can try turning on anti-aliasing and turning up the planet surface details and surface definition in the settings menu which make planetary exploration much prettier although much slower depending on your device. You will want to experiment to get the perfect balance between beauty and speed.
Actually I'm on the iPad Pro and I have everything on ultra or highest possible. I guess my question is how in the world do I actually wander the planet? I'm either stuck in space aimlessly flying planet to planet with no goal or I'm sitting in some sort of wireframe hangar.
If your in the hanger you should be able to launch your ship with button in the upper right. Before you launch you may want to buy commodities in the market using the SYST menu in the upper left but that is entirely optional. Then after launch you will be prompted to fly through "gate 0" which should be in front or very close to your ship after you launch from the hanger. Flying through this gate will initiate the landing sequence on the planet.
The basic order of the game is: 1. You begin flying in the middle of space and get to a star. 2. When you see the star, you set "S" speed to approach the space station orbiting the planet. 3. Once you're near the space station, you can autodock or dock manually. Let's autodock. 4. Once you autodock, you're inside the space station (the wired structure you mention). Here you do all the space missions acceptance and trading through the "syst" button. Once you finish, exit the space station menu and click on "launch" at the top right. 5. Back in space, since you autodocked, you'll have the planet, the star behind it and a square in front of it called "gate 0". That's where you have to go through to land on the planet, or you can press "skip" in the middle of the screen to skip the process (if you hadn't autodocked, you'd have to move around to find the planet and gate 0). This will begin the landing process. 6. Once on the planet, search for red spots (resources) which you can extract (basically first scan with the red spot in the inner oval of the scanner, then extract), monoliths (basically if there's a number on the bottom left, you have to move around the planet to get it to 100), vegetation for the botanic missions (just step on the vegetation), water for the science missions (step on water) or yellow spots for the geographer missions (they become green when you've got near enough to them). 7. Once you finish exploring, find a flat surface on the planet and click on launch. You'll go back to space and the game will save. Then you're back to point 1: go to a star, then to the space station, etc. In between you might find outlaws (kill them for a bounty), or if you choose the kill rebels/imperials/outlaws missions, you'll have to go to the designated systems to find them and complete your mission. The "kill outlaws" missions are very profitable, because you get the reward for finishing the mission plus the reward for each ship destroyed. The "kill imperials" missions reduce your fine to 0, so if you've killed too many imperials, they are very useful too. Some monoliths give you coordinates for legendary systems. Once you find the three coordinates for one of those, you'll be able to set the coordinates in the navigation menu (inside "syst") and visit it. You'll find something special in them. Don't get me wrong, you won't find anything uber cool like a 3D planet full of people, but you'll find something which can't be found on any other system aside from the legendary ones. I still have to find a planet with life. Still searching, but I think it must be cool to see them.
Are there any vids of any of you budding young Stellarnauts taking this for a spin? I'm still a bit confused, truth be told, even though I know that the moment I unravel the mystery I'll love this.
The only videos I have found were from s.marsaults on his YouTube page and except for the newer trailer most of the videos are very outdated compared to where the game is now and even the trailer will need updated soon enough . There are also a couple of YouTube videos from other people but it's mostly older footage and to me it's not indicative to what the game is in its current state. very early gameplay from official YouTube https://youtu.be/NyXwZaXd5TQ more up to date App Store trailer from official YouTube https://youtu.be/ur70r-JyPo0
Is this the best forum for the game? Just curious as I was wondering if another site or this one has a thread with "places to visit" or coordinates?
I think it's quite good. Drh1961 has posted several coordinates to systems where you can buy the space station and they are very profitable. Maybe you can begin with those EDIT: new update which includes the possibility of scanning animals, and zoologist rank has been added.
This is the only forum I know of...so it must be the best! All kidding aside Stellar Horizon has a very small footprint at the moment, not many online resources for the game besides the YouTube page and this Touch Arcade topic. It does have a small but enthusiastic audience that has been building over time that might one day give Stellar Horizon or *fingers crossed* its sequels more of a online presence in the form of additional communities, gameplay videos, and wikis.
Hi, just bought the game and enjoy it! ( the first impact i have to admit is no so easy XD) I have a question: which mission is good to do in the beginning? I try some hounting but they kill me everytime lol. And also how to complete the geographer task? What "geographic point mean"? Thnx all and fly safe
If fighting and destroying ships is too difficult at the beginning, I'd try and do exploration/travelling missions first. The geographer missions are done in the planet corresponding to the space station you're at any given moment. You just have to land on the planet and move to the waypoints on it Happy gaming!
ok thnx done my first geographer mission! Another question, every time i warp in a new system, i warp in the station right? and every sistem have 1 station, 1 planet and 1 star?
You warp quite near the station, but you have to set the S speed to get to it. If you fight first, you have to destroy all enemy ships before being able to set S speed. And yes: systems are 1 station, 1 planet, 1 star systems. It's how the procedural generation engine works in the game.
ok! I can do something with the star or is there only to "create" the system? i'm doing only geographical mission on various planet for the moment to take some money for new ship and weapon to start fight! When my ship is destroyed, i only loose the cargo and have to pay something for the insurance right? Just Leave a 5 star review on italian App Store, this game need more attention! Is rly rly huge!
The star is there only for creating the system, as you say. You can't visit them, destroy them, etc. I think you lose cargo and some money, but I'm not 100% sure because I've never lost a ship I agree with you that this game needs a lot more attention. Unfortunately, for some reason I don't quite understand, there are no reviews yet...
