JasonLL, very useful post. I'll add one thing though: when docking to a space station, you can choose autodock or you can dock manually. To do this, you have to go to the beginning of the spotted blue line that goes towards the station, and basically follow the spots and rotate your ship to match alignment with the docking access. You'll see a spot which turns from red to green in your reticle, which means you're correctly alligned. Accelerate and enter the station. Be aware that the space station rotates, which means that the green spot won't last much if you don't follow the rotation of the station. The update with the geographer missions and new space stations is great. Really loving all the updates
Right now I have 52 million. I have spent much more than that total on my space stations. I have seen some stations selling for over 140 million in high tech level systems though so your display would need to be able to handle AT LEAST 150 million I would say. Agree, jasonLL good summary, keep on exploring!
Maybe the game could handle (2^32)-1 credits displayed, which I think is the maximum you can handle with 32 bits. That should be enough I think.
I have to check that! I coded a signed value, so the max may be (2^32)/2 = 2 billions roughly. Not excessive considering the total cash Drh has...even if it may require numeral hours to get (i can't evaluate this delay, i wonder how much drh earns in 1hour of gameplay).
I think you said once one day in game time is 5 minutes real Time? I make 1.32 million daily, so that would be almost 16 million? Of course I spend it almost as fast as I get it...
I can't believe my eyes... Life on planets! Finally!!!! Man, you're amazing! Hopefully more people will appreciate your game as a great No Man's Sky alternative on iOS. EDIT: it seems NMS didn't fulfill everyone's expectations and it ended up being a simpler game than expected/promoted. Maybe with all the updates Stellar Horizon gets, it'll end up being even better than NMS Maybe you could add a new counter so that every time you reach 2 billion credits, that counter increases by 1 and your 2 billion coins become "legendary coins" and are deduced from the general coin counter. If you try to spend more than what your general coin counter reflects, the game can check that new counter to see if you have enough legendary coins, and if you have them, reduce the new counter by 1. In other words, a new "legendary coins" counter in which the exchange rate is "1 legendary coin = 2 billion credits".
Marsaults, regarding that first encounter, will the Dinosaurs be animated or will they be static images? Also, when should we expect this update to arrive? I'm very excited with it
Unfortunately static for the moment... But other objects may be added, as crashed ships, trees, giant mushrooms, giant foetus in the sky(!) etc. Don't know when release a first version. It could be fast if these objects have no function other than giving new things to see (2-3 weeks?), slower if they are associated to some function (for example, zoologist missions for the animal objects etc..). I'd like to associate extractable resources (currently not visible) to these objects, which means that player would be able to see such resources without the radar help.
Zoologist missions sound great, since they add more variety to what you do in game. I also love the idea of crashed spaceships, or even a city skyline in the distance as suggested by Today's Posts. Even spaceports with ships, or buildings similar to Dune's buildings or Tatooine's mud houses. All you add will be great for sure. Maybe you could even get to abandoned outposts of different kinds in which the resources could be found. For example, an abandoned outpost could have high tech resources inside, a crashed spaceship some minerals, etc. You could also think about adding ringed planets if it's possible. When landing on a ringed planet, you could see the asteroid ring at the Horizon with different degrees of tilt. All these suggestions can surely contribute to give more variety to sceneries.
Holy crabs! I'm just so freakin excited holy shoot this is amazing I can't believe it. I swear this game just keeps getting better. All you need is to get it some more popularity. I have already told all my friends and to tell their friends all about it. See if you can get it as an ad somewhere. I know it costs money but this game is just amazing. I know the dinosaur is just static now but I have faith it will move in the future. Also, a different way of moving on planets would be great. Like if you hold down the foreword button you move foreword at a constant pace as if you were walking instead of choppy grid based movement. Let me get the straight though, what you have now is Amazing! I respect you as a game developer who is truly committed. Here are some suggestions just for the future: -smooth movement on planets like you are walking. You should be able to walk around anywhere like it's one big map and not a grid -moving life -trees which I think your adding -and something that would be really cool is if you could fly at the planet and as you flew into the atmosphere, the ground would slowly appear and you could land on it. -Make the ship cockpit view look a little more Shippy. For an example, like have window panels or something. (I'm thinking something like Elite: Dangerous ship cockpit) Fantastic work, and I can't wait for what's to come!!!'
The Long Horizon Hi marsaults, long time no see!! Believe it or not, but I have been keeping up, hehe! I am so happy that this game is constantly being improved! Finally, on iPad, the text size is larger! All of the updates so far are really nice additions! Seeing those dinosaurs really surprised me as well! That's alien life for sure! Now, I still have a problem: The Imperials hate me...how do I get them off my back? My status is UNFRIENDLY due to the past...I've destroyed MANY of them in the past. Does the counter for relationship status have a limit or is it limitless? I've tried to do a couple of KILL REBELS missions, but that did not improve my relationship with the Imperials at all.........then when I go to a new system and planet, I get attacked again by Imperials and must destroy them (as I cannot escape from battles or bribe them), and the relationship status drops again. To put it simply, here's an outline of this "cycle": CURRENT RELATIONSHIP WITH IMPERIALS: UNFRIENDLY 1. Enter new system, Imperials attack me (90% of the time they show up) 2. I have no choice but to destroy them [Relationship points DROPS (no change in status)] 3. After the battle, I enter the space station 4. I go to the BBS and find a KILL REBELS job (IF it's available) 5. I then go to the appropriate systems to kill the REBELS [Relationship points INCREASES (no change in status)] 6. I then enter a new system, Imperials attack me again, and I have no choice but to destroy them; relationship points drop yet again. ....with this being the case, even after paying ALL fines, they still attack me and the relationship status remains UNFRIENDLY. This seems to be a never ending cycle that I cannot break out of. So, how could I possibly improve my relationship status with the Imperials at this point?
Welcome back senkoujin! I'm sorry for this painful situation! i think i have to change some parameters to allow to update your imperial status more quickly. Or maybe another fix. I try to submit an update as soon as possible.
Maybe you could add an in-menu option to "bribe" the empire to gain a neutral status with them. That would surely work IMO.
Also, I know that when you do the grid based movement, the game generates the horizon or what's next as you move. If instead the planet or a big portion could be preloaded, then you could move at a steady pace like NMS. Honestly, I know the loading time would be greatly increased, but I wouldn't mind a bit. If I had to wait two mins to load the planet so I could freely walk, that's fine for me. Honestly I'd wait an hour
I come from the Amstrad CPC times, where games were on cassettes and loading them was a pain timewise. My worst memory comes from the Predator game. After a 15-20 minute load, you got to play the game. After 1-2 minutes playing, the Predator would kill you, and you'd have to reload those 15-20 minutes to play again... And get killed after 2-3 minutes. Believe me, the game would lose part of its attractive if there were long loading times in space-planet transitions. In fact, I tend to have long loading times when landing on planets because the skip button doesn't always appear -I guess because of my potato 4S taking its time to load the first planet surface- and it sometimes feels tedious. Btw, what device are you playing on? On my 4S, with most graphics set to minimum, planet surface loading when moving is quite fast (3 circular animations per move). I wonder if performance on an iPhone SE with all the gfx settings on minimum would be nearly realtime movement as you request.
I agree. I'm using an iPod 5 which also runs at a poor speed. Everything is low and it takes about the same time to move. I just wanted to show how much I wanted a smoother way to "walk" on the planet. I'm sure Maursalt will if he chooses to take me suggestion, be able to have a quick loading time. All I wanted to do was encourage the idea
