The dark gods of the procedural universe generator must hate me. I have put in at least two hours since the update and visited quite a few planets. I cannot find a planet that actually sells the new ship yet. I'm the one that asked for it dammit! Lol.
Can't believe I forgot my C64 and Amiga 500 out of that list, not to mention my ZX81 and BBC Micro before them! I can't remember which magazine it was (Zzap64 maybe?), but one of them used to give you a free game in the form of printed code that you had to meticulously (and laboriously!) type in by hand.....they were pages long too, would take forever and invariably you'd end up missing one character which stopped the bloody thing from running!.....ahh, they were the days......kids today, don't know how easy they've got it!..... /....puffs on pipe, leans back and begins rocking gently in his rocking chair.....a wistful look in his dewy eye as the golden sun dappled memories of his childhood yesteryears skip through his now aged and mistied mind, lulling him in to sleep...../ /......farts..... ....pisses himself...../
It took me quite a lot to find it when I wanted it. I only saw it in 2-3 systems throughout my whole gameplay. That's why I suggested getting the same ship when destroyed instead of a lower one. Nonetheless I'll bear it in mind when playing to see if I can find it. Maybe it has to do with the tech development of the planets. Try to go for the high-tech planets (high value number next to the name in the map). I think there are more chances to find it there.
Maybe i will check the availability of this model. The associated probability may be a bit low. I'm currently working on a new feature : submarine exploration! I hope you will find it interesting.
Woah, you're not just messing with us? That would be awesome! When I was a kid, when not outside riding bikes we played with Legos. 90% of the time we made spaceships or submarines...
For the moment, this feature only allows the player to go underwater instead of "floating" on the water surface. There is no additional gameplay feature, it is essentially a graphics feature. But it may lead to other ideas...
Funny, after the update, I found a monolith. Anywho, I just wanted to report huge lag on the iPod touch 5 when crossing through vegetation. But good work! It looks incredible!
Thanks tintin! Did you try to ajdust the graphics settings? Here is a snapshot of my current work (in progress). I think it will be ready soon (but not in the incoming update).
Yes, update is live. Aside from fixing the monolith bug, it says "lock button is disabled during dogfight". Smart decision which will solve all our problems of unlocking the star while dogfighting. So, where does this leave us now? Implemented things: A LOT. To be implemented: - Underwater exploration. - Rebel/Empire missions. - ??? Marsaults, what are your plans after that? Animals on planets? Even rarer monoliths that take us to uncharted planets? This was a great space game that has become even greater. A BIG CONGRATS!
Thanks! Concerning monoliths, i'd like to create another gameplay element that gives the player more interest to find them. Maybe monoliths that give you coordinates of a system when you find several of them, or other valuable informations. I don't know yet. Maybe exploration of ancient undergound buildings (very rare). Animals representation are an issue for me: i feel that too symbolic graphics (what kind? i don't know) wouldn't fit the overall game style and i'm definitively not ready to create 3d procedural animal models... Time will answer! @drh: i hope you will find the big bang explorer soon! I know it was your request, it's a shame you don't have it yet!
I agree with you regarding the animals. I'm not a developer, but I *think* I know more or less what is possible/impossible to implement in your game easily, and life as such on planets with procedural animals is more towards the impossible. No problem from my side, perfectly understandable. As for monoliths, maybe some could point you to a planet where there's a special resource, or you could find "monolith 1 of 4", and when you find all 4 of them the planet is "locked" onto your radar. As it is now, resources in planets are minerals/elements, but no tech nor any complex structure. Maybe monoliths could point you to a planet where you find a buried "container" (so that there's no visual presence of the container itself) with a rare content, such as weapons or robotics. When you press the extract button, the system tells you exactly what you found. But the contents mustn't be silver, etc., but rarer devices or in more quantity (10t of gold found, for example). In any case, I'll be more than happy when the hunting missions and the underwater exploration are implemented. Btw, regarding vegetation I set the settings on my 4S to high in vegetation draw distance, because although it takes more to load each frame when there's vegetation, having the distance on low is too unrealistic (it doesn't look like a field, but as a bunch of grass in the middle of nowhere). Since I haven't found too many planets with vegetation, it's not too much problem. And now it takes me more time to explore the universe, because I'm addicted to manually landing the ship in the space station.
I found a bug: parts of the UI disappear if you go into the settings menu while exploring a planet. You can still press the button, they just aren't visible.
Weird, I don't have that bug. I go into the settings menu and when I go back to exploring the planet, the "left", "right", "forward" and "explore" don't appear for a fraction of a second because the phone is reloading the scenery according to the new settings chosen (I see the image that I usually see while moving), but after that fraction of a second the UI buttons appear. You know that if you press anywhere outside the UI while exploring a planet, the UI is hidden but you can still touch the buttons, right? If you press again where there's no buttons, the UI reappears. This is a feature during planet exploration that's used so that you can take snapshots of the planets. Maybe this is what's happening to you?
@Spidersaure: concerning your bug, virtualboy may be right. Tell me if it is the case. New navigation map in progress!
Cool! Will this be in addition to the two views we already have? Yeah, still looking for the explorer. In the meantime still working to get 10,000 LY out. Gonna take a while...
