I don't think you're doing this wrong. Most devs I came across in here do it this way. It's a nice surprise you at least seem to be considering iOS now. After I wrote my question about Dig I searched around a bit and found an article with your CEO basically saying Image & Form abandoning mobile because despite the huge userbase most people not playing anything at all or prefering all the "free to play" stuff ("Very many of them dont use their mobiles to play games, and prices have fallen through the floor. Literally, because most games coming out are free to play. Therefore, we decided to stand back for a moment and see how the other platforms were doing. ...") So it's definitely good news you are considering it. Regarding platformers: As L. Lawliett already mentioned "Dust: an Elysian Tail" had greatly implemented touch controls. I still ended up playing the second half with a controller because it worked a little better with the stressful five challenge levels but touch worked nearly as well. Also liked the touch controls of the oddworld games, Brothers: A Tale of two Sons and of course there's always Limbo (even though a litlle simplified because you basically only have to jump or move things). Toby: The secret mine (very enjoyable, a bit of a Limbo clone though) or Never Alone: Ki Edition imo also had very good touch controls. Those are just spontaneously out of my mind, when I think of more I'll let you know. Suffice to say there are quite a few platformer ports which pretty much nailed touch controls.
Some questions Before I buy this game can someone help me with the following? 1) During the levels, can I save in the middle of the stage? If no, is it difficult in this way? Moreover, if a stage is large and you are playing in the phone, I believe that you need to have this option due to battery / etc. 2) If someone calls you or for other unknown reasons due to low memory the progress will be lost, from which point will I play next when the game will restart? 2) How the loot - awards of clearing of stages work exactly? I read in a review that you have to replay same stages in order to get better loot. Isn't this punishing or irritating? I like turn based games, especially xcom which is one of my favorites together with Fire Emblem (!!) but you can save in the middle of the level and I am curious about this game. Yes, icloud support has to be achieved. Thanks.
Hi, just tried this for you. 1) Game saves during missions. Looks like after every round (when all your party members have moved or taken a shoot) 2) I'm playing on an iPad but I'm pretty sure it's the same as above (when you want to quit to main menu game always says "Do you really want to quit? Last save 0 minutes, x seconds ago) so it's safe to assume the game updates it's save files quite often, no matter if you quit by yourself or the quitting is forced. 3) I don't really agree with the third point that good loot only appears when you try levels again. I played quite a few levels twice, sometimes even three times but the loot was totally random. Sometimes I received two rare items the first time around and when I tried again I just got one normal item (and the rest water/currency) sometimes the other way around. Maybe the reviewer just was unlucky in his first playthroughs. Hope this helped. In any way, like many have agreed, this is one of the best iOS games I've ever played plus my playthrough lasted nearly three times as long than the advertised 15 hours - Lots of fun for quite a long time, you really can't go wrong with buying this.
So, from what I understand this has auto saves. Can you please try to play a level for a while and then close the app. Then relaunch it and see what it does. I would like to know because when I am in a metro / train and I have to get down, to be able to continue later on from home, etc. thanks.
As you wish, Boss Ok, just tried this three times, the game autosaves after every single round (depending on the groupsize, after 1 - 4 shots/moves), as I thought no matter if you force quit or quit to the main menu by yourself. So, no need to be concerned to have to start a level over again, even if it should crash.
P. S.: Just simulated a crash (force restart after playing a few rounds) and again the game starts exactly at the beginning of your last round. The only thing you could lose are 1 - 3 shots/moves but as soon as you finish a round (which usually takes up to 30 sec max once you've made up your mind how you want to act) the game auosaves again. Suppose that's good news - So, wish you fun with the game. I'm sure you won't be disappointed
Really glad I picked this game up it's great, enjoy the turn based play along with the different items, gear and abilities ect that make things more interesting. Although I find it very hard to decide which bots I want to use. The skill shots are a nice touch too it adds a bit more to it instead of just being a tbs with rpg like elements, always happy when I pull off a great shot.
Just bought it ! Thank you again ! To tell you the truth when I first saw the game, I didn't have the slightest interest to it ! Judging from the screenshots I thought that it was like a tactical angry birds game !! After a while, I was reading very very positive reviews and impressions and I searched for it and boy I was glad that I was wrong. This is a tactical turned based xcom + worms together which is a good combination !!
Lol that's funny - Was the same for me. Except for the Angry Birds thing: When I read tactical shooter I thought great, probably the umpteenth dual stick shooter clone or something alike. Thought the tactical part was just some marketing blahblah. I'm also glad the positive reviews swayed me to give it a shot. Last mobile game I spent so much quality time with was Ember and before that Hero Emblems nearly 2 years ago. Anyway, glad I could help. Enjoy the ride
Is there a list anywhere of the characters and abilities they unlock as they level? Maybe that'll help me pick which to use
Just finished the game and it was an amazing experience. It is a great game for those who love a good amount of challenge. I'm quite averse to challenges and much prefer playing casually, but for this game, I stuck through it and completed the game on the Experienced difficulty. My biggest tip: practice making those ricochet shots early so you don't need to fumble around in the later stages trying to learn how to make them; those shots can make your playthrough way way way easier.
It is great I'm actually having fun playing it and it's not too frequently I actually have fun or laugh while playing an iOS game. Love making great trick shots too it makes you feel good
Hello, and thanx for a very good game! I'm about to change my iphone to a newer model. The question is - do I lose my progress in doing so? IF that is the case - how to fix this? Regards - Anders
I think if you backup your old phone, then use that backup on your new phone, it should all carry over. You can't rely on iCloud, unfortunately.
Hej Brjann! I would also love to see you guys bring SteamWorld Dig to iOS. Others have already mentioned Goblin Sword and Dust: An Elysian Tale, which were the first two touchscreen platform games that came to mind for me, but I'll also throw in Super Phantom Cat and Vulture Island, from this year. Dust has probably the most complex controls, as the others are quite simple, but it does work very well. While it's not a platform game, I'd also suggest taking a look at Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, too. It's an action game with complex controls that require precision and timing, yet Capcom transferred it very cleverly to touchscreen, combining taps and swipes for different actions. And thanks for SteamWorld Heist!
Here's a link I found which is a pretty complete list of character abilities by level! http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/844407-steamworld-heist/73047362
