The gameplay seems a bit simplistic purely judging from the pictures and video. I've checked out some gameplay vids, but would love to hear your guys' opinion on the gameplay. Also, the campaign and upgrades seem pretty linear, but I could be wrong. Is it worth the 7 dollars?

I hate steampunk sorry guys I know loads of you love it but I'm just not keen on it as a theme but anyway back to my point, the game looks great and regardless of how I feel about the theme it's still made me want to pick it up

I won't spoil things but do know you are looking just at the first starmap.

It took me around 16 hours to complete the game and unlock + mode at hard, and I even didn't got all stars which took another 4-5 hours (means getting ALL loot from levels, exploring everything and getting out the hulks alive with all characters).

At first it's pretty linear but then many options open up, especially choosing who bring to battle and with which gear...ranging from almost stealthy gameplay to destroy everything on sight with a plasma bazooka.

As for the difficulty, you can change it when you want, and its mission based.
I suggest starting with hard and eventually lower it to normal in case the first boss is too hard. (But boy it does gives you satisfaction!!!!).

    You know what?
I am EXACTELY like you, as I hate steampunk with a passion.

But the curiosity about this 2D turn based mechanic had the upper hand, and now I have my possible goty.
    It's that good.

And let me add that not only I hate steampunk...I'm not even fond of westerns too (some characters are cowboy like).

That said...it really grew on me, and I grew attached to some of the characters thanks to the little storybits (and the stellar gameplay of course).
Then I arrived at chapter 3, and I was totally on board and hooked.

In case you decide to buy it, I can't guarantee you will like it like I did, but the theme 'problem' was easily solved for me after just some missions.
I hope it does the same for you, in case you decide to give it a chance.

I tend to not even think of SteamWorld games as steampunk, as there's lots of "hidden" more traditional science fiction themes in it, and it's also a very interesting post-human setting. I'd say this game is as close as we're ever going to get to a proper Firefly video game.

SteamWorld Dig (the previous game) is easily my favorite 3DS title, and the best Metroidvania to hit a handheld console in years.

I have this on the PS4 and sank about 12 hours into it.

I would say the look is Wild West steam punk than steampunk lol...plus some of the soldiers hats (which you can shoot off and use) remind me of Blackblood off of the A.B.C Warriors lol.

Great game with some tense moments and some lucky / awesome / annoying trick shots being pulled off.

    Instabuy from me

Anyone played it on iPhone 5? Is it too small for proper targeting?

I would second that question, to know if it is worth playing on the iphone 6.

Honestly, it works better without a controller.

Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it in current form, but other ports have controller support and I would very love to see it here.

It's not steampunk, though. Check out the trailer at least and see.

I've played a lot on both iPad Air and iPhone 6s, and in the end I completed it on iPhone 6s.
It's glorious (on both devices) but I had it always with me.

Thanks for the feedback from you and Jcho I'm glad to hear it and I'm off work after tonight for 10 days so I'm pretty sure I'll pick it up for my iPad and give it a chance.

Is there any sort of cloud saving or save transfer? I'd like to play this on both phone and pad but if I had to pick just one I would probably just get it on iPad. (I hate replaying campaigns)
