I watched the new video right before I read the following posts. Wow. It looked so damn good too..perfect control groups system, great buildings system, good unit building/queue, great sound, great graphics (I change my earlier opinion, the style is definitely fitting for this game), and it's just wow..how are they going to delay it again..seriously. It's been over a freaking month since the first delay. Now again? Did I mention perfect controls, IDLE MINER NOTIFICATION!?!?!?, and a greatly utilizable minimap? There's so many good things going for this game..just where is the game...please tell me we'll get a pleasant surprise tomorrow.
he knows bout delay, he still hoping we get a "pleasant surprise". why doesnt gameloft update their website, twitter, etc with news faster?
Yeah, I mentioned the new delay in an earlier post on the previous page of the thread. Wait a second, do you mean to say Gameloft hasn't publicly announced the delay?
Definitely dude I agree. Everything looks as smooth as it possibly could be. Nothing seems overly jumbled, nothing seems to over crowded, everything seems very intuitive for the nature of this kind of game on this system. And I don't know if Gameloft has announced the delay to the public. Checked their Twitter and haven't seen anything about it so I dunno where this is coming from. I hope it's not true though. I would really like to have this game tomorrow.
I just had a thought -- maybe the delay is so that people can't vote for the game to go on a 99c sale for the 14th of February
the 18th isnt even a thursday...i was so looking forward to this game tonight...the game better be so polished that i can see my reflection in it from a mile away!!
I'm really liking this game. 2 Things that are bothering me: the unit cap at 40 (as it seems to be in all the gameplay scenes), and there appears to be no fog of war! That's a big nono. I'm hoping i'm wrong though. Fog of war is an important part of rts gameplay. Hopefully it will have it.
Do not know if anyone already posted this, but here is the hands on of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So7_dpY6l1o
I don't get what people mean when they say gameloft is still using the old engine for this. Do they already have an old RTS engine in place? are they using The Settlers' engine for this? Can someone please enlighten me? EDIT: what's the point of an RTS without fog of war. You'll have a clear picture of what your enemy is doing.
Oh, wow you're right. There definitely needs to be fog of war. Surprise attacks and the need to stay alert are important very important aspects in planning strategies. Hm, 40 does seem oddly low, especially since some units will probably cost 2 or possible more of the pop to create..hopefully the cap is a little higher. 75 sounds like a good number :]..this is on a handheld screen after all.
Graphics The graphics are looking pretty good, but I wish they could make the game a little darker and units polished. I hope it's not like C&C because the graphics were crappy and the gameplay was so bad. They could have maded it in 2d graphics like starcraft but with units nicely polished, because it could have look ed better than the polygonized 3d units. Anyways the starfront graphics are pretty good, and hope that they maded the gameplay good. And yeah it's coming out in like 3 hours later in newzealand And The unit cap at 40 is pretty low, but it is enough units to have a battle against 4players and I hope that the game is more likely based on stragedy, I didn't like the warfare incorporation game because most of the time what you have to do is just mine for minerals and build as many units as you can and attack. What I want is a starcraft, where you have to keep watch the opponent on what he/she's building and what tech he/she is going. So population cap at 40 is pretty enough, because If it is high, it will have lags and also less stragedy will be involved.
I definitely agree with you about the game mechanics. I think the graphics are just fine, but yes I really hope it's actually real time STRATEGY. I don't want another game where the fastest masser wins (Warfare Inc. and Armada) or a game where there's one dominant strategy that always wins (Red Conquest). The three more 'traditional' rts that I have listed that include multiplayer have generally been lacking in one part or another. I hope SF finds the balance that's key to a great rts. 1/4 resource management, 1/4 unit micromanagement, 1/4 speed, and 1/4 strategy to dominate the opponent. Let's just take a moment and pray to some higher being that it'll be here tomorrow (today). We'll know within hours in any case. Hoping for the best one more time.
