Yeah I remember now, part of the reason this game got praise, smart inclusion of IAPs And thanks for the engine help. This has quickly become one of my favorite iOS games again
What is the purpose of leaderboards for most kills and most boss kills, if those kills do not have to be achieved over a set period of time, under special circumstances, etc? There is no element of skill to this measurement, only of time played. I have yet to understand why developers include incremental achievements and leaderboards, and if any players actually feel a sense of achievement when they accomplish something anyone can do, given enough playtime.
Wait. What? You can't use the name of one of my favorite games growing up and not explain the comparison Note that I have not yet bought this game but it's been on my radar for 6 months.
Interesting, we can look at adding more leaderboards for things like fastest time to kill all the bosses or things like that. However I think you're underestimating the difficulty of the late game. Getting big scores will require skill. And some of the leaderboards (like most kills with the Mosquito) never get any easier, since the ship doesn't have enough room on it to add the parts you unlock later in the game. That's the leaderboard I'm watching with most interest... Any other ideas for leaderboards? Happy to add more time-based ones... Edit: Also worth noting that these leaderboards are for most kills IN ONE ROUND, not all time. So there is a limit of sorts.
Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing... getting upwards of 1,000+ kills with the Mosquito is going to take a LOT of skill (I think the #1 spot on the boards right now is at 107...), since you can only give it an engine and a gun... I'm thinking the smaller ships is where the real leaderboard battles will be going on. I do agree with Ayjona's sentiment though - having leaderboards like 'most deaths' where you can just sit there and hit the retry button over and over again to move up in the boards and the like always make me laugh a little. Why put the time into incorporating GC boards if you're just going to add boards like that? Don't get it... But I really do not think that that is the case here. I'm looking forward to asking my friends about the layouts they've used to get the scores they did with certain ships, and in turn, sharing my designs with them if they find themselves interested. Oh... ZeMindGames - I'm having a blast with the game post-update. I don't think I really caught on to everything the first time around, but now, I'm hooked. It's actually knocked me out of my Wayward Souls obsession - something that quite a few FANTASTIC games have not been able to do lately. So THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH!! Have you guys thought about adding MFi support?
ok im totally hooked, youve made a great game ZeMind!! thanks btw if anyone needs the friend ship blueprint: enter 3YK7K in game settings
Just to avoid any confusion, if someone uses that code, you'll get the friend ship blueprint viskjall, but they won't. If they want it, they have to share the game with someone else.
Are there any plans to add a color blind mode? The game was a lot of fun for the limited time that I played it, but being unable to tell the difference between the red and green power ups was frustrating enough that I ended up uninstalling the game after a few hours.
Yer right. I don't know how I missed this defining fact, but that changes (my perception of) the nature of the leaderboards completely. Most kills per round, per ship, is most certainly a very skill-based factor (and an excellent competitive mechanisms, in a game where each ship has the same possibilities, but where the actual layouts can differ so between players!). So, no more criticism from me on that point More leaderboards would be fun, however, especially since leaderboard high scores can be sent as Game Center challenges to pals, much like achievements. (GC challenges is a feature far too often overlooked to my mind, as it actually adds a very small, competitive and social semi-multiplayer aspect to any single player game. For me and my pals, chasing each others' challenges is a much greater motivator than competing on global leaderboards.) In addition time-based boards, I suppose leaderboards for most kills in a round with nothing but melee weapons (and some other very particular - and challenging - layouts or limitations in equipment, as a counterpoint to boards for specific ships) might merit its own board(s). Those who truly try to master that aspect of Starborn Anarkist should be rewarded for their particular brand of madness (Most kills without travelling, most kills with only main gun, most kills with only a peashooter, etc. But all of this would, of course, be peripheral to the ship-based kill boards. Perhaps something for the most advanced players, as a way to present them with very specific challenges.) For that rainy day when there is nothing left to code, some leaderboards to collect less useful info, such as most distance travelled in a round, most gear collected before dying, etc, might be fun for some (though personally, only boards which pertain directly to skill interest me).
Hmmm.... is anyone else experiencing any issues with their scores not being uploaded to GC? I hit 200+ and 400+ in my friend ship last night, and the scores weren't uploaded to GC... just wondering if anyone else has experienced this - or if it's just with the friend ship - or just my connection - I dunno...
