I just picked this game up yesterday and I can't believe what I've been missing. I'm only halfway through the tutorial mission and I'm already hooked! I was up playing until 1 am last night. I was so engrossed, I never even switched from my iPhone to my iPad after I got home! I used to play MOO for many hours years ago, and while the concepts were familiar, the level of polish and new additions made it feel even better. Kudos to the dev! Even the little bleepy sounds feel right!
Welcome! Make sure to tap on the "Multiplayer" option; SO has an awesome player community and from there you can read the latest news, chat / ask questions of other players in the Space Bar, or check out the discussion forums (which have a ton of information including player written strategy guides). There's even a player run Starbase Orion League, should your inclinations lean that way
Can the be fully enjoyed by single player campaign? Does it need internet connection to play? Am looking for a space adventure, build, manage, combat etc, is it endless? Saw just on PT that Starbase Orion 2 coming up? Is it going to be paid IAP new content for Starbase Orion or separate app..
Starbase Orion has full single-player sandbox games. Nope. You build stuff, you manage stuff, you fight stuff. In space. Lots of replayability; if single player eventually bores you, there's a great multiplayer community. Separate app, no IAP, does not require internet to play. We keep it old school around here.
Great!! As for SO2, actually dun mind if new content is paid update, else do I get SO1 now .. If SO2 is just round the corner. Else becoming something like xcom enemy within issue..
Starbase Orion 2 is progressing well! No release date as of yet. We are finishing up another update to Starbase Orion 1, which will probably be the last update until SO2 comes out.
Nice, so SO 1 is still going to supported for a while to come? Also is SO 2 release a long ways off ( +1 year).
Yes, SO1 will continue to be supported. While I can't get specific around dates for SO2 yet, I don't plan for it to be "a long ways off ( +1 year)"
There's a little chatter about it over at the Chimera Software forums. It sounds like it's still a ways off. iOS really needs more of these types of games. http://chimerasw.com/starbaseorion/forums/index.php
News? Any news on SO2? The Chimara forum is pretty quiet. I really like SO - I've had it installed since 2012, and always go back to it. I'll play the latest cool RPG/4X/Crafting game for a while - get bored - play something else new - and then inevitably get re-hooked on SO. it's my all time favorite game. My greatest fear is that the monitization model will be play-to-win or worse, timer based real-money-gem-fueled. Galaxy on Fire is another all-time fav of mine, and I haven't even bothered to install to IAP based Manticore. Makes me too I'll. I only play pay-once-and-play-forever games. The exception being games that ask you to buy new content. That's cool. Or games that are free, and then ask for a one-time payment to keep playing after a certain point. The absolute worst are the ones that ask you to buy a handful/bag/sack/box/chest/big chest/huge chest/monstrously royal epic chest of gems that you have to spend to play more than 20 seconds at a sitting. GRRRRR!
SO2 is still in the works, but as I'm a one-man-indie-hobbyist-developer its release date is intimately tied to my available free time, which has been in decreasing supply the last few months. The good news is that as a one-man-indie-hobbyist-developer, I feel absolutely no pressure to turn SO into a stupid-free-to-pay-to-keep-playing-game-just-to-preemptively-try-and-increase-revenue. So I can promise that, when SO2 is finally available, it will be a premium priced app without any IAP-coin-energy-shenanigans.
I have to second "any price". I've played SO so much that I have easily gotten 20-30 times the original premium price out of it. I'd pay $20 in a heartbeat. In fact, I'll send $20 right now to a paypal account. Is there a donation button on the chimera site?
I can't find one if there is... But throw my name into the hat of insta-buy on release no matter the price people. =oP SO has easily given me over 100 hours of fantastic gameplay. It's also the first real 4X game I ever got into... So there's some sentimental attachment to the game... I guess I could gift SO to a couple more friends. =oP
Chalk me up as another instabuy at whatever price. Once I became a more fully aware iOS gamer I did my homework and went around buying titles intentionally at full price including this one, The Quest Gold, King of Dragons Pass, and various Inkle and Simogo titles because I wanted to support the best devs on this platform.
