Hi, this app is my top valuated app. i play in 9 multiplayer matches. but opponents need endless times to make their moves. of my 9 games only one keeps going on. no signs of life in the other 8 get players discouraged when their ships run into space mobs early in the game? do they lose interest when the going gets tough and they feel like falling behind? why don't they just quit the game to let it go on for the other players? i appreciate the unbelievable fast and engaged support of the Dev for his app! my two suggestions for multiplayer mode: option for AI to take over like in "Ticket to Ride" turn time limits like in eg "Samurai" or "Kard Combat" of 1-3 days. anyone for a multiplayer game willing to make one move each day? my GC ID is JammaTal. plz send me a friends request for some real galactic rumble
THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE!! Now I can get back into the game, and maybe finally have one complete game... =oD The AI turns are EXTREMELY QUICK compared to the 1.0.5 version...
Woohoo! Just had my first victory! =oP This game's amazing. Thank you so much for all your hard work! And I still need some "practice" before I get into multiplayer gameplay, but I suspect once I do get into online play, the game will open up even more. =oD
Hey all, I already have ascendancy and love it. Would it make sense to pick this one up too? The price seems a little steep and I am still having fun with ascendancy but the reviews seem great and I love 4x games. Thanks
I would say yes but I may be a little biased. Curious, I did a search to see if that had been answered before. I know there are more; I seem to remember there being a few in this thread.
I'd have to say yes as well... After playing S.O., Ascendancy seems more like a... lite version of the game. SO has so much more control, and depth, it's crazy... and isn't Ascendency $5 as well?
Except that turns out to be considerably cheaper than S.O. I would like to provide a little constructive feedback to the devs: I've been on the fence about this game since it launched due to not being convinced I'd get that much good out of a 4X TBS game on a 3.5" screen. Still, I've followed all the change logs and paid attention to the reviews and today, at last, I went to buy it seeing the positive feedback in response to 1.06 only to see that sometime last night, a "whole" day after they fixed the problems introduced with 1.05, they jacked the price up to $7.99. I came here to see if I missed some warning that we should buy it now because the introductory price was about to end, but, nope, just a silent price increase of 60% So, now the waiting game begins again. S.O. had just reached my threshold for what I would pay $5 for on review and forum hype alone, and it shoots up to $8. In all honesty, considering how many games are competing for my attention, that price increase is probably a permanent loss of a sale if it stays in place. It's your game and your price to set, no argument. Nor am I someone to whine about price in general, but for a game with no light version from an unknown dev (or, more accurately, a dev best known for *word search* games) for an unknown property and in a genre that's so easy to mess things up on any platform on a platform not exactly known for its stellar 4X gaming, a couple of hundred mixed reviews and forum hype are not enough for me to drop $8.
C.Hannum as a developer of a 4x game on iOS I can tell you that after playing Starbase Orion I would have paid up to 10.00 USD for it, I have easily sunk 10's of hours on this title. It is a exceptional game for 4x on the iOS platform, and is certainly worth the 8 dollars he is asking for now. Considering at one point I bought a certain similar game years ago for over 40 bucks. So if you can manage the extra couple of bucks for this title you should give it a go. But hey that's just my opinion.
I appreciate the opinions, I've been watching the game since it launched, and I didn't post the feedback to cause any sort of kerfuffle. My post was not about whether in the abstract the game is worth $5, $8, or $80, but just because at any price, *I*, me, the dude sitting here typing, is unconvinced that I will get any value out of the purchase, too many games, too little time, and past experiences with the suitability of the platform vs. the genre have not been great, and so the risk/reward equation comes down firmly on the side of "do not buy" at the new price point. They'll have their own sales data soon enough to judge whether it was the right decision or not, but, for me, they just priced themselves out of my fence sitting sale, that's all I wanted to say.
**edit** Just read your post that you made while I was writing this, and it sort of made my whole post a mute point. Anywho... I'm glad that the developer has raised the price. He totally deserves more for SO. It's pretty much got every single thing that every other 4X type iOS title has, all mashed into one, and then more. Best of luck with sales!
Prior to the price increase, the iTunes description did actually state that it was an introductory sale and that the price would rise. This is fair in my opinion, a lot of devs get flack in this forum for sudden and early price drops whereas this dev has committed to the intro price and followed through on their decision to increase price after early adopters had their intro sale.
I actually just bought the game a couple days ago because I noticed the intro price statement and pledge not to drop the price. Looks like I was just in time!
Game Impressions Just created an account to say that if you are looking for a rich, MP capable, 4X came on iOS, this is it. Worth $8 easily. Hell, I'd pay $100 for it.
I didn't say it was never going on sale, just wondering how long the dev will hold on to the raised price-point.
Difficult - they're both worthwhile if you like 4X games (there aren't many on iOS!) I'd say unless you've played ascendancy in the past and want to pick it back up, buy Starbase Orion. I think it has more character than Ascendancy and the UI is better.
