This will run pretty smooth, do not even doubt. There are no 3D graphics or complex calculations in the game. 3GS runs it without a problem.

New explanations are pretty good. Should say what the % increase for maintenance is caused by barren/toxic/radiated, etc... Also, any impact on pop growth?

A research tree . . . even in a pdf or html or something that we can look at on pc . . . would be fantastic. Its hard to make intelligent decisions about the red techs without a tree. I mean you added a layer of tech decisions beyond MOO 2 and currently provide less information to make tech decisions.

I'm very impressed with the overall game.

I've just remembered: is there any way to close a list of tasks that appears when something happens at the past turn? "Close" button could have done something with it :)

No impact on growth. I'll add the percentages to the description in next update (desert/radiated is +25%, toxic is +50%).

This has been added to v1.0.4; I'll see what I can do about getting it posted to the site for out of game viewing.

Tap the big blue button at the top of the sit rep (it has the current star date on it).

This must be a dumb question---I start the game with planets I can't farm, those planets produce no food, so of course every turn I get a popup that the planet is starving. But the population doesn't go down or anything. What is the point here? Just a morale penalty? Can the people survive forever with no food?

Each "colonist" icon represents 1 mil people. Each turn a planet spends starving kills off a certain number of people ( the actual value is listed in the empire screen and on the planets screen). It may take several turns before you see one of your colonist icons go away (ie, 1 mil people die from starvation).

You need to assign more farmers on the worlds that can produce food; the extra food will feed the planets that cannot produce food on their own.

With no armor penetrating weapons in the game, what is the difference between hull points and structure points? The structure upgrades come later, but seem to add the same number of points (at least so far). Maybe they are cheaper, I havent built any yet.

    Multiplayer crash at startup

I've had a good single player game going through the past couple of updates, no problems.

On iPhone 4: I tried to start a multiplayer game against random opponents last week, pre current patch, and found that right out of the gate, pre-turn one, the game would load in to memory, show the "compressing turn" screen & bar fill up, then go to a black screen and crash. This would happen when I tried to load up that match on the iPad as well. Post patch, (1.04 is it now? The most recent...), the same crash happened with that game. I've rebooted the device multiple times, removed the application and reinstalled, rebooted; I've also ditched the original multiplayer game and tried to start a new one with the same crash results.

Anything I can send to help bug this or are there a particular order of actions you'd like me to try to see if we can iron this out?

Thanks in advance. Enjoying the game, bought day one. What more would I want to see? Just that - more. Sword of the Stars more or MOO more; any of it. How deep can we go down this intergalactic rabbit hole!

I might be missing something obvious, but how do you take over a planet owned by someone else? I built a troop ship and invaded, then moved over a colony ship but the only planet that I can colonise in that system is an unpopulated one, not the one owned by my opponent.

You need to invade with enough troop ships that your space marines overwhelm the marines defending the planet. Once you do that, you automatically take control of the planet.

Alternatively, you can bring in ships equipped with orbital bombardment packages and blow the colony up, and then recolonize with a colony ship.

I am leaving room for future expansion in this area. Armor penetrating weapons, damage to structure destroying internal ship systems (such as knocking out weapons / engines ), etc.

Why does the AI send more than one colony ship to the same destination? Seems like that would be easy to fix, if there is a colony ship en route, dont allow another to be sent.

Played a 200+ turn on large/hard and never got attacked. I just ended up quitting after steam rolling a few planets -- it didnt seem like anyone had any real ships.

Also, had 2-4 spies working on tech and sabotage, and never saw any effect.

My only problem with the game is the ai is not hard enough. I played a game on impossible/huge and never got attacked and when I did attack none of the other ai had any decent ships so there was no real challenge...they just seem to mass planets and attack each other

Also after a battle the damage done on a ship goes back to zero

There are a couple of crippling bugs in the AI. They have been worked out for version 1.0.4 (which will be out next week).

Won't have the time to play this anytime soon, but I bought it because I like the genre and I know the price will go up eventually.

One question though, are there any plans to include heroes/leaders? They are such a big reason to why some 4X games are awesome. If there are plans to include this feature, I'll be happy to wait. :)

Holy smokes, I just learned that Master of Orion I + II have been converted to work on Windows XP and 7, and you can get them both for 5.99 total at gog.com! Master of Magic and Heroes of Might and Magic III as well! I am shocked and staggered!!

Will I be disappointed that the nostalgia doesnt hold up? Will my kids "get it"?

I know this is a tad off topic, but hope you will forgive me as Starbase Orion was admittedly inspired by MOO. Thus, this is not a go buy something else post, this is a if you love one, look at the other post!

Goes off to gush like a (much younger) fanboy...

    GOG.COM is fantastic.

Too bad you missed the recent Atari sale - MOO1+2 for $2.99

Still a bargain for $5.99. (Coincidence that this and HOMM3 were my first purchases on the site?)

If you play Minecraft, check out the appropriate thread on GOG.COM, DGH94 and I are playing on their server.

Still enjoying Starbase Orion, it's nice to see a few more apps in my 4X folder! :D
