I'm really enjoying it because I am fan of Star Wars in general. I just started playing it but can see how much effort Kabam has put into the game. I love the customization in particular. The sound effects are on point as well. The game looks beautiful on my iPad Air 2 and android phone. Runs fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing what new features Kabam adds to the game soon. Voice overs are supposed to be coming soon.
Yes, very. For all the neat little features and gear, there is almost no gameplay to speak of. I generally find ARPG's to be so but this one is really bad. Combat is essentially just tapping enemies and spamming your specials as often as possible. It could have been better but your roll ability as to recharge between uses. That's dumb. It would have been more interesting to keep attacks with limited energy and movement abilities to always be available to give you some sort of dynamic control over battles. You keep doing the same boring fight against enemies that are essentially just reskins of each other with no variety just to pick up some piece of digital kit. I actually like collecting pieces of digital kit but there gameplay is so bland. I am trying to like it because it's Star Wars. However, no gameplay and the story is Star Wars: Rebels-Lite. Which is annoying because they could have done so much in such a vast universe but instead decide to be derivative of the current popular series. Hey, if I want Star Wars: Rebels they have their own game. I want to desperately like it because I am a huge Star Wars fan, but as I am playing it I just keep thinking "is this level almost over yet?" and they aren't even that long. If the first playthrough is like this what is the grind going to be like?
That's not really how things work. Think about it. The purpose of a beta is to test out how the gameplay and systems work in the real world and see how the public responds. At this point, changes to the game will be small. Would it make sense for them to send the game out for testing purposes while there are still large parts of the combat/gameplay systems that aren't in the game yet? Maybe in an alpha test, but not a legit soft launch that people can spend money on.
So, does this game bridge ANY part of the story between Episode VI and Episode VII? Or is it about as connected to the series as KOTOR?
That's my concern in a nutshell. The core gameplay, which is what I am finding boring, is already established. They are not going to rip out the engine and start over at this point. They can add all the hats and gauntlets they want at this point and the gameplay will still be just as much of a slog. I feel like I have to put in a caveat here. Some people may still be enjoying it and I'm not trying to take away from that. However, I have a feeling some people are doing what I was doing yesterday and desperately trying to like it because it is a Star Wars game. The license does make up for some sins but I had to ask "Would I play this game if it wasn't Star Wars?" I think because it was Star Wars I was able to finish that ridiculous tutorial where any other game I would have quit for trying to teach a stupid simple control scheme through 3 different missions.
Great point, i used to be like that with Star Wars but now i'm more honest, if a star wars game is crap i'll say it. Shame as this one looked alright in some previews
Yes, I see your point for sure. I agree that it is somewhat bland which I pray will change lol. For me, it's a wait and see perspective. I have tested a lot of betas and I have hope for this one. I have no clue what things could be added. Some updates are big and some are not, so I disagree with the person saying only small features would be added. No one knows at this point. I do wish there were more features NOW instead of waiting for next month or so. Voices in the game are needed, some PVP and that stinking Hoth would unlock lol. If I don't like it and find it boring, I got plenty of other games to try.
i agree, there will be much more added to the game. I do give it slack because this is an official story of what happens in the Star Wars overall storyline/universe. My issues are controls; wish there was a d-pad. Hopefully as time goes on there will be more environments to go to. If it becomes like marvel future fight with the same places then perhaps it wont have a strong replay value. I'm hoping it satisfies my Star Wars itch with mobile gameplay. Perhaps i give it slack because i'm in my 40's and its a post Return of the Jedi story; who knows but i'm optimistic and willing to give it a chance.
This game is very much like KingsRoad for those that played that. As is the case with every one of these, the grouping needs to be easier. Every game needs a "raid finder" system that matches you with likeminded people. I cant stand any system that requires me to shout chat, blind invite or type out peoples names. I also think people are being a bit harsh on the gameplay. compared to other games like this its refreshing. The skills are gesture based rather than "press the button for the skill". so you tap and swipe, or tap tap on yourself or enemies. Not saying its gods gift to gaming, but its more involved than any other game iv played like this.
The onboarding is tedious, absolutely in agreement there. I hit level 10 last night and the levels generally suffer from the same problems that most mobile ARPGs do - samey corridors with few surprises. There's little in the way of randomization, no random doors to explore or elites to fight as I would like to keep things fresh. The double-tap skills are extremely laggy in this version. Grenade is all but useless because the character will only throw 1 out of 3 times, regardless of whether it's done charging. There are bugs in levelling up crew members, in that it'll take all of a material stack, not just the required number. These are both known issues that the community manager says will be addressed before launch. Your mileage may vary. I'm openly more forgiving because I love the original trilogy. When they start rolling out events, it should get a nice shot in the arm in terms of variety. While I do not disagree with the assessment that level designs and enemies lack depth, I have not seen one mobile ARPG that doesn't boil down to what you describe, sadly. Dungeon Hunter 5 feels a little more engaging at times because it's direct control, but in terms of gameplay Uprising is almost identical to Kings Road or Spirit Lords. Hopefully Uprising will evolve as Diablo III did, which took well over a year to become the game it is now. Go back and look at some of the earlier impressions. If not, I hope the Torchlight team brings some of that much needed depth to the mobile version, even though its going F2P. It is canon as far as Disney is concerned and is part of the "Road to The Force Awakens" media blitz, but it is a tangential story. It does not deal with the primary characters.
The forum mods mentioned that more races will be released over time, and they're considering the possibility of letting you change your race once, each time they release a new one. I hope they do.
I took the last spot in your Cartel, thanks for the invite. I'm really digging the experience in this game so far, it's like a better version of Spirit Lords and the gesture controls worked really well in that game. It was the crafting that made me stop playing as they got a little too crazy with the spirit crafts, and basically I wasn't that interested in the world. I'm really happy they brought crafting to this game though, and man the cantina and the UI is pretty slick. My name is Cilo Fortuna and yes I'm a Twi'lek haha
What is that method? Edit: turns out installing through iTunes works too. Playing on an iPad 3 and so far I have had no issues.
I have to respectfully disagree. I am actually involved in several beta gamess through testflight, and doing several softlaunches. I've been testing games for years on PC and now mobile. While one aspect of a softlaunch can be to see how your mechanics work in the real world, another reason is to test how a mostly finished game will monetize to see if it is worth launching worldwide, still another is to see how a very early build of the game tests with an audience. I've been in softlaunches that have changed dramatically from day one softlaunch to global release. I've also been in softlaunches that only release an initial episode of the campaign to test the game and get feedback then upon world release unleash the full story and features, and Star Wars right now feels like the latter. Only time will tell but if you think big Changes during a softlaunch can't happen, you're incorrect.
