Lost my progress for the second time today, I turned my phone off when I was at work then when I got out and started my iPhone up again it was all back to normal, try turning your iPhone on and off or leaving the app for a while.
What surprises me about this game is not that there are bugs, but the range of bugs, and how long they've gone unfixed. I wasn't into TT when it first came out, so I don't know how buggy it was, but I know it runs well now, and both PP and PT run just fine as well. What's so different about this one that makes it feel so sloppy?
A large for-hire team put together by Disney/Lucas Arts handling all actual development and coding for an app that all design choices were made outside of their control and input compared to a 2 brother team who bring in an extra soul or two here and there where there's something they need the outside help for but otherwise do exactly what they want their way knowing each other as only siblings can for the most part. That's your difference. One of these was an indie casual game put out there as a calling card to the style and uniqueness of the Marsh brothers, the other a for-profit venture in a decades old franchise lorded over by suits concerned for the stockholders. The bugs are minor and weren't worth fixing in a timely manner in their profit model.
It may have been explained earlier, but I guess I was under the impression that the core team was behind the wheel of this, just with the power to use the Star Wars license. And while the IAP is definitely different from their other games, I don't think of this as for-profit any more than TT.
This one is by far the worst developed, both IAP-wise and bug-wise. TT, PP nor PT ever had bugs as serious as this one. Also, it's clear what Disney wants IAP-wise. In the first version I evicted bitizens to get dream jobs and bux. After they updated the game (adding more bugs) there was a Darth Vader "Punishing" for evicting bitizens and not allowing me to do so. I liked the cutscenes and I really wanted to dig into this game, but in the end I deleted it because of all this anti-enjoyment move: deleted savegames, forbidden to get free bux, slowdowns, etc.
I have 37 levels and 48 bitizens. It's taking 15+ hours to build a new floor and it's almost impossible to get new bitizens to move to the new apartments. I really like this game, but the experience and fun are getting really bad and they're not gonna get better unless I start buying Bux with real money....
Wait. So if I keep playing thi,s it doesn't get fun at some point?! For me it's pretty much like Final Fantasy: All the Bravest. I fire it up to see pixely people from stories I like just walking around. I smile, then close it. Sometimes I tap on stuff.
You do get free Bux sometimes. Finding people gets you 1 Bux, and finding rebels gets you 2. Also, you get 1 when you build a new level. It's definitely a bummer that you don't get the occasional tip by delivering people, or fully stocking a floor like you did in TT. It's even worse when you see the top elevator is 500 Bux.
I've had it a couple of times now where I've opened the app after a few hours of not playing to discover I've earned 0 money (aka no appearance of the Emperor) which is mildly annoying. From the lack of dev comments / fixes do I presume they've abandoned the game already?
I always get the Emperor screen, but sometimes he's not animated and doesn't turn around - memory problems I guess. But the game still displays the message with the money I earned. Never had a problem there and never had the save wiped. *knocks on wood* I'm at 58 levels (18 residential, 6 imperial) and 90 Bitizens now, without spending a single real dollar. Build time for the 58th level is 25 hours (the game displays this as 1D 1H). When I sent a screenshot of this to a friend yesterday, he just wrote back "I give up". Tiny Death Star is the perfect Tamagotchi - it doesn't need much attention and every few minutes/hours there's some tapping to do. I pretty much gave up on the Emperor and Vader missions, since they don't generate enough coins and take too much time. mnemo
It would be awesome if you could name the generic bitizens. I would pay a buck or two for that IAP as some of them look like my friends
DEFINETALY AVOID THIS PIECE OF CRAP so got this a month ago played it for 2 weeks reached 50 floors and then boom reset lost everything i didnt want to restore an old backup cauze it was too old and i needed the new stuff i had in my phone so i decided what the hell lets start a new one 72 floors 500 elevator all floors upgraded to 5 marriage to 40 imperial court to 30 and then boom again this time i did use a backup and to my surprize game was still in the first stages tried older backups even tried disabling icloud or delete the app several times and redownloading it and still nothing i am unable to understand where this up saves progress and despite several backups it will always load the one i made after the crash with like 3 floors or a beginning one i am gonna retry a complete wipe of the phone and then complete restore and see what happens DEFINETALY AVOID THIS PIECE OF CRAP
I don't think they have any kind of save feature. But a couple pages back someone mentioned they had their progress reset, but after turning their phone off and back on again it was magically there again. I haven't tried this to confirm it, but it would be another thing to try. And yeah, it is the crappiest thing for a game that requires timers and such to not have an online save somewhere. Terrible programming choice. Losing so many potential players because of that omission.
Did they ever fix the iPod Touch issue, or are those of us phone and pad less set to wait even further?
I hope they patch this game someday. Laggy menus, random crashing and loading times are getting annoying. I still like it though.
M'kay, just downloaded the update.. gameplay seems a bit smoother but in about 15 minutes the game crashed 4 times . I don't know what they do every update, but for everything they fix the seem to create (at least) one new problem. This is getting really tiresome, which is too bad because I really like(d) the game. I think I'm going to stop playing until the next update at least..
The update is running better for me. I've been shuttling people around and stocking floors for a good 20 minutes while I do other things, and haven't had any trouble. The "?" people can now go to any floor, which is good for unlocking scenes. Is there a list of who goes where? I had 10 unlocked before the update, and just got one more because I had a good guess where Han might go. Also, one drawback to the new "?" delivery is that they no longer trigger the other shoppers to buy one of every item in stock. I thought that was a cool feature, but at least now you have more control over where they go. They also still pay you double what your elevator's multiplier is. So if you have already unlocked a scene with a certain character, you can deliver them to the top of your building for a pretty nice tip.
