I played this game on my Xbox a while ago maybe a few years and it may be the one thing I would purchase an iPad mini for only gripe I have is the size of the darned thing. But I hope that's not enough to stop my mental brain.
I bought $30 of iTunes credit with the plan of buying X-Com and this game for my Mini. I spent the $20 on X-Com, and then was having second thoughts about this one versus waiting for Magic 2014 to come out. Afterall, I had already beaten this on the X-Box (light side ending only), and Magic was going to be a "new" game. After reading a bunch in this topic, though, I couldn't resist any longer and I got this game anyway. I hope they stop releasing these AAA titles on the iPad for at least a few months, lol. BTW, I'm loving both X-Xom and this game on my Mini. Soooo smooth and the touch controls suit both games perfectly.
Don't expect one. Aspyr made the port, but I'd be willing to bet bioware and EA still have the authority over the price, I haven't ever seen a price drop for kotor on the Mac App Store and I doubt we will see one ever here.
Horrified: if EA really has the authority over the price, I would safely bet there will be a drop in 3 months...
Again that hasn't happened with the Mac port of kotor, so don't expect it. It's such an old game that a slow and steady revenue stream at 10 bucks is fine with them. It's going to be one of those games where they set it and forget it. I doubt we will even see any updates.
Explanation: don't have to defend this one, mate, cause I am playing this on iOS too. It is one of the excellent US$10.00 I have spent.
Absolutely agree. However, I also understand (to a point) why people always clamour for a sale. The App Store is a deflationary environment caused in part due to the $0.99 and/or freemium mindset, but also developers slashing their prices the day after release. There are so many frequent sales, that people have a deflationary mindset i.e. why pay x for this game, when it will be y tomorrow / next week? Certain developers are notorious for this practice. That said, KOTOR was my first - and only - 1st day insta-purchase. Zero regrets - unlike stupidly watching 'Attack of the Clones' again last week on network television. Hasn't improved with a repeated viewing. In fact, it has got worse. Good lord! I almost poked my eyes out with forks. Did Hayden Christansen actually get paid for that performance?
The only reason why it is like that is the fact that almost all typical mobile games focus on one core game mechanic and use it over and over again. Pretty much of more of the same the longer you play. KOTOR for example is something completely different. It´s a complete former retail title being ported to mobile devices. Thus makes it uncomparable to classic mobile titles which are sold for .99 or free (with IAP). The key problem now is: loads of gamers became gamers via mobile devices. They simply do not know about those great games we´ve seen so far on consoles and PC. How should they be able to judge the worth of a game if anything the know of games is that they usually cost less than a $ and usually have IAP. This will be one of the key problems, developers need to solve if they want their "serious" games to be successfull on mobile platforms
I think there is truth to this. For me, I was already trying to find KOTOR to play on the 360 (I played it originally on PC). When this was released on iPad it was an easy decision. Even with the smaller screen, portability is more important to me so having KOTOR on the go just really blew me away.
Thats why I am confused about whats taking studios so long to port their big titels onto mobile. Many gamers now have the devices and the money to repurchase all those loved titels to take them with them anywherr. This would really push mobile devices as a serious gaming plattform
Anybody have a strong impression one way or another if this would be better played on OSX, or on iOS?
It's all dependant on how you want to play. The game is identical as far as the actual game is concerned, its merely device and mouse vs touch. That's all.
Much like XCOM, the game looks better on an actual computer, but the core itself is basically the same. It mostly comes down to which device you prefer, and your own playing habits: if you're unlikely to play it while you're out and about, for example, you probably don't need the iPad version.
It was fun when I played it on my PC and is just as fun and exciting for me on the iPad. As the others said, it really comes down to how you want to play. Do you want a portable version or are you on your Mac a lot and don't mind playing in one spot?
