Well, played about 10 rounds of Co-op MP... Got my 4$$ handed to me about 10 times... lol

I'm not even sure my rifle does damage to the Mantis, but I almost survived even without a chaingunner, so I'm getting there...

    Weird.

Why would someone enter the match and then leave before the good part?

Well, I can tell you I would be useless to you vs. anything above maybe the Poison Pit at this point, but I don't leave matches, unless it's in a bag.;)

    Did you get my PM?:D

I played this before but couldn't get it going. I saw a lot of activity in this thread and decided to try again, but still wasn't doing so well until undead.exe started giving me pointers and frankly helping me learn the mechanics of the game, including showing me around Co-op MP... and now?

    Yeah, I'm pretty hooked.:D

    I love Touch Arcade!:)

Congratulations DBC! Getting quite skilled now, I see :p

Darthguy, if you meant getting a team on Double Rages specifically, I'd say I'm probably getting teams who stay around all the way through the boss fight every 3rd or 4th time I join a room. In general, I don't join anything with a level cap lower than about 8 or 9 once I'm going for Siegfried or above, my current armour selection makes me somewhat reliant on teammates for providing a distraction (low speed, but I can still output high damage).

@DBC again (Darthguy too, but you probably know this already): players do drop out because of bad connections, but it's also quite common for people to leave mid-match before the boss fight. The main explanations I can think of for this are:

    1. Not happy with their teammates. In general, some players may leave if they consider their teammates unsuitable for the current level, a judgement which is generally based on the teammate's armour, or the amount of damage they're taking. In my case, however, I may choose to leave mid-match if I'm up paired with someone who seems to have good armour (thus suggesting decently skilled), but does nothing but run around the actual boss fight with a SWORD. If the boss only has a little bit of HP left, I'll take it out just to get the gold, but if I'm stuck with another player who wants me to waste all my own ammo to remove half the boss's HP bar, yeah, see you later cheapskate >.>

(Note that my treatment of lower levelled players differs on that last point, as I'll be in awe of how you can even survive on such a hard boss. In which case, I'll kill the boss for both of us, since I'll consider your acting as a distraction a fair trade for my bullets :p)

    2. Not getting enough kills -- by that, I mean the player who left felt like they couldn't kill anything, because their teammates are far too aggressive/efficient, meaning that they're earning comparatively little gold from the enemy rush. I get these guys QUITE a lot, because I'm fairly hell-bent on mowing down everything I can, usually from a corner of the map. That being said, I don't bother if a teammate has a freedom pack, and has pretty good aim with either the Crab or the M-27B1 -- those are kill-stealing equipment set-ups, but hey, fair game :p

Long story short: this game doesn't really promote teamwork that much, it's pretty much a pure exercise of agency theory (as seen by how no-one goes into any Co-op or PvP matches with bags which have effects for the whole team). Your best bet to find cooperative people is to either bring in friends you know from somewhere, or join a forum community such as this one :p

Okay, so I've been looking around, and stumbled upon a few clips of boss fights. The ones I've picked out are not necessarily the best, but the most prolonged fights I could find -- this is so newer players can get a chance to look at the boss attack patterns and plan accordingly before their first actual encounter, if they so wish.

Note: there's a chance that higher ranked players may not be happy with having you run around doing nothing against the tougher bosses. If you can't really do much, then I would encourage you to prioritise surviving on top of trying to contribute any damage (players ARE valuable as distractions or decoys), but just be aware that it's a risk you take unless you've made prior arrangements with a friend who's willing to help you out.

(I might also cop it for effectively encouraging lower levelled players to check out tougher bosses, but oh well >.>)

    WRATH OF MANTIS
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqdJPbUVuEA

Boss fight begins from 2:00 onwards. Player is using the MCP76 (weaker machinegun). BOTH teammates running around with swords -- as you can see, they're not really doing much. Main things to beware of are its various projectile attacks (mouth beam, wind blades, and a pair of discus-style blades that it didnt use in the vid but Double-Rages also uses) and its spinning charge, which is the first move it uses in every match.

    POISON PIT
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BVHgd8guEI

Boss fight starts from 0:20 onwards. Player used the Trinity Bow briefly before switching to the Crab for the majority of the fight. The boss will spit out poison, either in a single projectile ball or as a messy spray all over the place -- do NOT step in these areas, as they do damage to you and slow you down, which leaves you vulnerable to a follow up attack. While the boss has a charging scuttle attack, pay special attention to its leaping body slam -- you have VERY little time to react, so stop shooting and get out from under it!

    SIEGFRIED
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b1vJ0CVe2Y

Boss fight starts from 5:18. Player used...holy crap, that is an expensive aresenal o___O. Crab, followed by Trinity Bow, then Laser Cannon (he's also got a Morpheus and possibly a Windblade in his bag). Siegfried will always start the fight with four attacks, before settling down. Aside from its flying charge attack, Siegfried also has a leaping lunge with quite a bit of range and mobility (at 6:50), make sure you're backpedalling. Its fireballs also explode, or they otherwise have splash damage, so make sure you don't just dodge to the side of one if it's aimed at the floor.

Edit: As Asasnator wisely notes, on Siegfried, DO NOT HUG THE WALL, or you'll probably get stuck on an outcropping piece of rock. Keeping your distance from Siegfried is a good idea, but leave a little room between you and the wall to ensure you don't get caught on anything.

Also from Asasnator, if Siegfried is facing you, and he moves his head quickly, he's about to unleash about five fireballs. Run *slightly* to Siegfried's left or right, and you'll be able to find a gap between two fireballs quite easily. Might take a little getting used to, but it becomes dead easy once you know what angles the projectiles move in.

    DOUBLE RAGES

...fancy that, I can't find a video of Double Rages yet. This "boss" is somewhat problematic for players with low mobility, because you're essentially fighting the "Wrath of Mantis" boss again -- just that there are two of them. The green one has a fair bit more HP than the purple one, and the purple one will stay on a perch with a barrier and fire projectiles at you until you've knocked off 2/3 of the green one's HP. When you defeat one Mantis, the other one will put up a yellow barrier, which makes it impervious to damage for 30 seconds or so. However, it IS possible to kill both mantises simultaneously, the second Mantis just has to be killed before it completes its taunting roar when it becomes shielded.

    SERPENT
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGq3y6gY38g

Note: this is an outdated video, before the last update. While the Serpent still uses all the same attacks, its speed has effectively been doubled in most areas.

The Serpent uses spit similar to Poison Pit, except it seems to cover a much large portion of the ground this time. Also be ESPECIALLY aware of its tail slam -- the shockwave covers quite a large area, so players with low speed are prone to getting hit by its charge attack, and then combo'd by its tail slam. If it goes underground, watch for a cloud of dust near any of the players -- if it's near you, GET OUT OF THERE: it's about to leap into the air and do a body slam, accompanied by a shockwave. Lastly, once it loses more than half its HP, it begins to use a teleporting charge where it will charge into a portal where it should hit a wall. I find the Serpent sometimes lags between teleport attacks, but keep scanning the walls to see where the Serpent is coming from. Also, if you see your teammates shoot determinedly at a random spot of thin air, get away from there -- chances are, they're shooting the Serpent, and that's where the Serpent will be for you once the game's lag corrects itself.
