Sorry. I was pulled away for a good half hour >.> anyways, of you're still here, anything is fine. I'm just going to be away for about 5-8 minutes and then you can start up a match. Hopefully some other people will join as well.
Hey guys, I know the game has been out awhile but I just stumbled across it. I'd appreciate some general tips for a new player starting out. What weapon upgrade path do you recommend? What lvl is best for farming? Is IAP a must in this?
Welcome! So, the general consensus on this forum is to first grind enough money to buy a Cutter, and don't upgrade the basic rifle. Instead, save until you can buy a FL443AR (We can actually run you through a boss stage, it'll pay you HUGE like 150,000+) from there, our recommended armor choice is the thunder armor, and finally, save for a transition to a M-27B1, the machine gun. From there, it's all you.
For farming purposes, I advise you to continue on the "campaign" until you have the thunder armor and the FL443AR. For now though, I can actually set up a match and run you through mantis, the first boss. A few tips before we do so: One- The boss level consists of two stages: one where you fight the minions, and then where you fight the actual boss. Two- Stay behind me. Aliens do a LOT more damage there then your normal alien. Three- If you see a glowing blob, RUN. RUN QUICKLY. That one small thing will wipe you from full health to zero in .5 seconds. Other then that, are you interested in making some cash?
Simply put, IAP is NOT a must. Many of us have bought IAP purely low level or to support the Freyr team developers. We earn all of the high mithril weaponry by mainly grinding with friends here or doing the tapjoy ads. My advice on weaponry P2: from that basic path you can branch out, and personally, I advise you to pick a weapon that suits your style. You can find videos ad snapshots of the weapons in action. Just find one that suits you and your needs. Luckily enough, each one of us on this forum EXCEL at a certain weapon style or playing style, or sometimes all. Let me clear this up: this is not a boasting or bragging situation. I'm telling things the way I see it in my perspective. Undead.exe here will be the one you want to contact for M-27B1 Help, strange new strategies, and all that good stuff. He is the real techie when you need to know some stats fast. Undead is also the one that works in close or long range combat. While mainly PvE, his PvP skills are quite good, either taking things from afar or taking things to the next level with his unique combos. Jediknight, from my point of view, is a master of mid range and bow combat. He's a master with a trinity and his work with mid range combat is amazingly proficient. DBC is our resident sword (moron? LOL JK) man. If you want to learn some sword fighting techniques, he is the man. Enjoo is, similar to Jedi, a mid range fighter. However, the difference is that while not excelling in a bow, he is proficient in most weaponry and can adapt likewise. Here it comes... Me. I'm Superion, and on GC I'm Umbrablade. If I had to say proficient, I'd side with undead. I'm either great up close and personal, or from afar. I'm great with all the weapons (with the exception of grenade launchers, bows, and novelty items) and I'll be the one that has crazy new ideas for combos and loadouts (Undead has share too!) and I'll be the main guy you'll want to see for item management. As owner of the consumables and tester of all the bonuses, I don't have the calculation ability to show the numbers, but I'll suggest good ideas now and then. Oh, and I almost forgot. I'm the resident Disco Ball. My lazar goes shoop da woop and kills things. enjoy SW!
Let me pick my jaw up off the floor. haha Wow, you really went in-depth with that. Thanks a lot for the info! Rare to see someone put that much effort into helping new ppl. Some great advice to follow. I'll take you up on your offers another time though. I rather get a good grasp of the game and build up a bit myself instead of just freeload off a veteran.
If you want you can join the star warfare social group. It has a detailed guide to it but is unfinished.
So, haven't been around for a minute, but pretty much everything Superion.exe said, like verbatim. Well, except the moron part. Oh, and as for the above-bolded comment? This is a rare place indeed. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about all that "noob/pwned/whatever" BS in this thread, and I'd also get accustomed to being helped... Welcome! DBC
Welcome, fresh meat Yeah, Superion pretty much gave you most of the info you'll probably needing for starters. Feel free to ask us for more details/in-depth questions as you go along, but those multiple essays he wrote will give most newbies good guidance for the time being Oh, and don't worry too much about ammo costs -- you'll be making more money than you're spending on ammo provided you're literally not running around and firing all your bullets into the sky or the ground >.>
Finally! Someone whose newer than me! Hey there, I'm Lava, and I agree with the rest of the guys: buy and upgrade the cutter first, and then get the FL334. I used that thing for a loooong time, and it served me well. For the actual boss battles though, you can't get much better than the M27HB coupled with a few hyperclips and the Thunder armor (a tactic coined "Thunderstrike" by Undead.exe). As far as me, I'm not too good at anything, but I tend to engage at medium-to-long range, using Nova27, or more recently, the LIT07. I'm decent at sniping, but I usually run away at close range.
Naaah, "Thunderstrike" was just a little term I used to describe when a full team of three players are taking on a boss when they're all using the Thunder Armour. I'm recording the videos that way because I actually find team battles harder than solo mode, given that you take more damage from enemies in team battles. That, and exhibiting some cooperative team play for the SW community as a whole seems like a good way to counteract the "sword-wielding moron" culture
Im back. For boss advice youve pretty much gotten what you need. But with youre mithril I have some advice. GET WHATEVER APPEALS TO YOU. Everything ithril is okay and from passer up, Windblade and the sam pack are good.
That's how you get better. Personally, we run you through it for money+ boss experience, and besides, a lot of us were noobs once too, and got help from the higher ups. Anyways, of you think it's freeloading you could always shoot too
The money and boss experience (i.e. attack patterns), I agree with, but it's really when the players start figuring out how to fend for themselves and fly solo that they really shine. While I recommended for DBC to actually buy the Cutter himself, I was absolutely gobsmacked to see how he was using it a few days after he bought it. He certainly didn't develop that technique while running alongside me -- I'm pretty sure he finetuned it himself while running single player campaign matches in-between the assisted boss runs. Anyway, my point isn't that you shouldn't accept an invitation from a more experienced player, because there's plenty of benefits there -- but as you were originally saying, Jasonv2, it's also important to go solo to figure out how to be self-sufficient and to develop your own playstyle. I find the biggest thing in single player is figuring out how to play so that you dodge attacks rather than rely on your armour's HP to survive -- once you do that, you'll be a much stronger team player, because enemies do more damage when there are more players (i.e. you can only make a smaller number of mistakes before you die in a team match as opposed to a single player match).
